𝔬𝔫𝔠𝔢, further back in years than anyone alive could remember, there is a land that even time has forgotten, filled to the brim with magic and mystery both good and ill. This is where you make your home. Who you are in this kingdom - or many kingdoms - is as varied as the blades of grass that spread over this lush terrain. You could be a petulant princess, a delving dwarf, a highway man with more than a few secrets, a devoted knight, a mage of ancient spellcraft, or even an ageless elf. No matter your station, though, one thing is for certain: whatever life you lead, it's about to get a great deal more exciting. There is a war brewing, somehow, somewhere, and the peace of your homelands is at stake. You are the only one who can set things right and go on a quest to save everyone.
Still, what is an adventure without an adventure of the heart? You are not alone, and you'll find that trying times can forge ironclad emotions. Of course, you'll find that the path of love is no easier here than anywhere else, be the person you admire an arranged fiancé you're not too fond of at first, a forbidden object of desire, a traveling companion, an enemy, a lifelong friend, an ally...or another species from you entirely. Yet, in any case, this is no time for romance, is it? Only moments can be stolen, and you must set aside your feelings for the greater good.
In this time, in this place, will you get your happy ending, or will this story prove to be a much darker fantasy?

Kyle Rayner | DCU | OTA
Kyle is available here in a few flavors:
Teenage (let's say 18 for this) Kyle, a stable boy who by chance was imbued by the leaders of the Order with the last of the Green Light after Sir Hal Jordan was driven mad by an ancient evil. In his madness, he stole the majority of the power of the light for himself and killed most of his comrades. Kyle will be inexperienced here and trying to do his best with a power he barely understands.
Or, Sir Kyle Rayner the Torchbearer. This version will be several years older. After keeping the legend of the Emerald Knights alive on his own, Kyle has helped to destroy the evil that had overtaken Sir Hal, in the process restoring the Emerald Knights to its former glory. A hero among men, Kyle goes where he can to right the wrongs others cannot face alone.
Alternately, if this is more your speed, Kyle could also possibly be a wizard, gifted with powers based on the emotional spectrum. Constantly plagued with the threat that his abilities may bring others harm, Kyle is traveling the world in order to master his magic while helping those in need.]

Sheryl's only confidant is her bodyguard. She wishes she had the freedom that such a bodyguard does. She really does hate going from palace to palace but ... the journey itself is ... somewhat enjoyable.
There is less privacy and the hills and trees have ears.
But the riding is best.
Fine clothing need only be packed away. A litter would not make sense in this terrain. As much as Victor thinks she ought.
Utterly ridiculous.
She has no interest in marrying the man. Why can't she run away with her bodyguard who waits on her every whim.
Joan. Her secret name.

It had felt like a demotion at first, despite Queen Mycella calling it the 'highest honour'. One deserving of the Hero of the Battle of Tygarden. Joan would have preferred a return to the battlefield. Maybe sent to help defend their allies overseas, giving Joan a chance to explore more of the world.
No. Instead she was to be the bodyguard to the Queen's only sister. Royal Bodyguard.
The Princess' beauty was renowned. Joan was aware of that. But she had assumed Her Highness to just be another spoiled, dim-witted lady. No better than the nobles who used to kick the mud off their shoes in the direction of Joan when she was a peasant child. Before she had decided to cut her hair and bind her chest, to call herself John and pose as a man so she could join the army.
She hadn't expected to...like the Princess' company.
Their first meeting had been what pleasantly surprised Joan. After the ceremony, where 'Ser John of Tygarden' was given his new position, Joan had followed the Princess out of the ballroom to her chambers. Aside from the short moment where their eyes had met during the ceremony, this would be their first real meeting.
"Your Highness." she addressed, kneeling, "May I say what an honour this is for me. I am at your command, awaiting your orders."
She tries not to make the words sound too monotonous or rehearsed.

Sheryl touches the locket given her by her mother long ago against her chest.
She winks briefly. She actually likes that Mycella had the forethought to hire a female bodyguard, Sheryl really did think the opposite sex was annoying and only saught to take advantage of who they perceived as weaker but who they demanded take their abuses and carry their children.
Sheryl is jealous. Why couldn't she be a bodyguard.
no subject
She doesn't want to be hanged.
Five years she's managed to fool everyone. Even the Queen. Right?
no subject
She smiles a bit. Blushing, perhaps.
"You needn't worry, really. Perhaps I-I prefer female company even if we are given no such choice."
There. Now her guard has information on her that could probably get her flayed, or "cured" or worse. It didn't matter, it's an extension of trust.
'Isn't the expectation of marriage silly of them?"

"Your Majesty, you need to be careful when you speak heresy. Especially here." Joan warns with a touch of humour; "You are...not impressed with the suitors who have asked for your hand?"

Sheryl really hates the requirements put upon her. And Victor is utterly annoying.
The other older men are simply boring. Victor would just ... want her to do certain things. Because it's proper.
"I'm not heir apparent, Others that are not heir apparent that are men are not ... expected to do anything they don't wish to."
no subject
That's not always true. A lot of the soldiers just fancied the princess as a pin-up sketch. 'This is what you're fighting for, lads'. And most of the people in the poorest villages believed the royal family didn't care at all about them.

Joan did. She can't really speak for everyone. The princess had been known as a bit of a reckless royal. A troublemaker.

Didn't her bodyguard know this?

Despite the constraints.
"If only we could run away, wouldn't you agree?"
