The Action Movie Meme!
Not every character can come from an epic blockbuster action movie, running down bad guys and having high speed car chases while shouting witty repartee at their partner/opponent. But... hwat if they could?
Welcome to
where every character has a chance of being the hero, and of walking away with their sunglasses on and their back to an explosion.
So, how does this work?
1) Post a comment, with your character's name/fandom/preferences in the subject line.
2) Tag other characters by rolling for the following two possibilities: relationship and scenario.
3) Have a Big Damn Hero moment
4) Profit!
So, about these relationships and scenarios...
Relationships
i - Partners. Partners in crime? Partners in law enforcement? Could be either, or neither! Maybe you two have been best friends since college, or you're strangers that one day hit it off over a hot dog cart in the city. But the two of you like each other, and would prefer each other to make it through the action movie alive.
ii - Reluctant Allies. Are you a disgraced CIA agent and your partner a straight-laced by the books kind of guy? Or maybe you're the by-the-rules player saddled with a renegade loose canon of a partner. Or maybe there's some other reason the two of you have been thrown together, and you know you can't survive unless you both work together.
iii - Superior Officer. You've been around the block a couple of times, and have seen a bunch of young punks (or bright-eyed optimistic spies) wanting to make a difference in the world and end up dead. And frankly, you're tired of getting attached only to see these kids get swallowed up by the world. Or maybe you're a bright-eyed and optimistic young officer (or spy, or thief) looking to make your mark on the world and you keep butting up against your cranky, jaded superior officer/head of your mafia syndicate. Either way, the two of you better find some common ground quick, or you might just end up blown to bits.
iv - Romantic Interest. - You know how this goes. You're in the middle of a heist gone wrong, or an attempt to save the world, and... Boy meets girl. Or boy meets boy. Or girl meets girl. Your eyes meet and the Hans Zimmer violins start playing, and the shot goes all soft-focus and dewy. But the world is about to end! Or a terrorist plot is hatching! Or one of you gets kidnapped by an elite fighting force. Either way, the adrenaline is pumping and so are the hormones, and the point is for both of you to survive what happens so you can have a well-deserved vacation somewhere private.
v - Arch enemies. For whatever reason, the two of you are enemies and all you want to do is see the other one fall. How do you do it? Do you hatch a plot to take over the world? To ruin the financial institutions? To stop the earth's core from spinning and send us all flying into space? Or maybe you'll just defend the country from this nefarious scheme, or thwart the coming apocalypse. Either way, we all know that this movie will not end until one of you is defeated.
vi - Wildcard. Don't like the choices? Have another action movie trope you want to try out? This is the choice for it!
So... you have a relationship, now what?
Scenarios
1 - High Speed Chase - Needing a quick getaway? Clearly you need a car! Or a boat! Or maybe a helicopter. But there are people who don't want you to make it. Whether they're misguided law-enforcement or villainous individuals, someone wants to make sure you don't escape alive. So the two of you better get moving. And hope one of you knows how to drive the vehicle you're in.
2 - Breaking and Entering - Is there a Very Important Piece of Information you need from that locked vault? An Ancient Magical Artifact in a guarded temple? Or just a couple million dollars to steal from a casino or mob boss you hate? Or maybe it's something else entirely! The point is, you and your partner are going to steal something that isn't yours. Try not to get caught.
3 - Outrunning Earthquakes and Black Holes - Maybe the Earth's core has stopped spinning and caused a tidal wave. Or the Moon has exploded and debris is threatening to crush New York City. Or some scientist has released a swarm of genetically modified jackal-bees. Whatever it is, it's a force of nature that's bearing down on you and the only way you and your partner can even hope to survive it is to outrun it. Do you outrun it in stylish stiletto heels? A luxury yacht? A Winnebego? Your choice, but whatever it is, you better move fast.
4 - It Came From Outer Space - The world is being threatened by something from outer space, and you and your partner are the only ones who can stop it! Is it Robots In Disguise? Giant Battleship Aliens? A slime-spewing, human devouring meteor disguised as a lump of Christmas coal? Doesn't matter! You two need to destroy it!
5 - The Final Countdown - Maybe you're trapped by your nemesis the villain and are being lowered into a vat of acid lava. Or maybe you and the person you're with have just found the terrorists' dirty bomb/nuclear device and have to disarm it before it's too late. Whatever it is, you're on a strict ticking clock and if you don't manage to succeed, it's lights out for you!
6 - Good Old Fashioned Shootout - People are shooting at you! Did you wander onto a battlefield? Pissed off a gun range? Get caught stealing something you shouldn't have? Or maybe you and the person you're with are just trying to kill each other. Either way, guns are blazing and you better hope you have some witty repartee to go with those bullets!
7 - Near Death Unresolved Sexual Tension - You and the person you're with are about to die! Are you running out of oxygen? Is your capsized boat sinking? Hiding from a band of merciless mercenaries? Doesn't matter! All that matters is you are both certain you are going to die in minutes and there is nothing left but to go out without regrets. The question is, what happens when you ARE miraculously rescued at the 11th hour?
8 - It Came From Michael Bay - You are suddenly walking away from an explosion! How did you get here? What just exploded? Where'd that wind machine come from? Why are you wearing lingerie?! It doesn't matter, this is a Michael Bay movie, just put on your sunglasses and keep walking.
9 - Wildcard - Got another action movie trope you love? Something else you want to do, or some combination of the above? This would be the place for it.
