The Witch's Curse


A fantasy AU meme where witches are real, and they are vengeful. Specify your character's role: the witch (or sorcerer), the subject of the curse, or the curse breaker. Tag around and pick or RNG a curse.

1: Change of Form: human turned animal, mythical beast turned human, human turned inanimate object, human made older/younger, the possibilities are endless

2: Obeisance: you are now cursed to follow the witch's every command and it's useless to resist, or perhaps you simply have to obey every command given you no matter who gives it

3: Curse of Sleep: like princesses before you, you are cursed to sleep for all eternity, or at least until your one true love finds you

4: Possession: be it a demon or any other kind of spirit, your body is no longer your own

5: Isolation: some witches use towers, others use forests of thorns, but either way the message is clear-- you are never seeing the outside world again

6: Resurrection: even death is not an escape from the witch's power, for some can raise the dead

7: Bad Luck: some curses are more minor, only causing you to stub your toe or drop your books, but they're still annoying

8: Defects: you weren't turned to an inhuman shape, but were somehow made hideous, clumsy, or repellent in some way-- maybe you smell terrible, or maybe people who get near you just feel uneasy and want to leave

9: Wounds: you have a wound that simply won't heal-- maybe it's slowly killing you, maybe it's just annoying, but it's not going away

10: Monster Magnet: wherever you go you're always being attacked by creatures, demons or monsters or ghosts, etc, that want to kill you

11: Never to Meet: you become an animal during the day while your true love is human, then you switch forms at night, so you can never both be human at the same time again

12: Death: your death is approaching and you need to find a way to avert it or remove the curse entirely

13: Objectification: you didn't avoid the death curse, and now your soul is bound to an inanimate object, perhaps to provide more power for the witch, to bind a spell to the object and give it power, or maybe just so you can't move on to your next life

14: Cursed Object: maybe it wasn't the witch themselves, but something that used to belong to a witch that put the curse on you, and now you must find a witch who can remove the curse

15: Cursed Ground: your house is built somewhere it really should not have been, and now you have to deal with ghosts or demons or the undead, which will really ruin your property value

16: Wildcard: choose your own adventure!

Sherlock winces and wimpers in his sleep.
"N'yet," he mumbles, shaking a little. "Nyet... don't want it... don't know... don't know...Nyet..." he sounds a bit angry and distressed.

[captainwatson]

John purrs a little, unintentionally. A soothing rumble.

"You're safe now. I'm here..."

Sherlock whimpers then stills. Briefly comforted.
He will wake a while later but he doesn't know where he is.

John is asleep by then, snoring a little.

There's a storm raging outside.

Sherlock spends more time than he should trying to figure out where he is and the snoring fuzzy creature next to him must be John.

John grunts and rears his head to see Sherlock awake and looking lost.

"You ok?" He offers his paw.

[desecrated]

He shakes his head and wraps his arms around John's middle.
He supposes he could get used to the itchy fur, if required.

[captainwatson]

He puts an arm around Sherlock.

"Do you...want to tell me about them?" The nightmares.

[desecrated]

Sherlock shakes his head. No. He'd rather no one knew.

[captainwatson]

John hums and nuzzles his head.

"It's over now."

[desecrated]

Sherlock shakes his head. It's not over because he still has nightmares about it. Gentle. John is being gentle with him.

He hates that he needs that.

[captainwatson]

"Try to sleep." He whispers, stroking his back.

[desecrated]

He shudders and tries to sleep. He won't be able to. Maybe he should talk about it.

[captainwatson]

John will keep him close all night until the sun rises and a cockerel from nearby loudly welcomes the sunrise.

John wakes and gives a yawn that almost becomes a roar.

Sherlock wakes and stretches, yawning as well.
John almost roars.

We should go. Get this fixed before John is a beast forever.
Without his mind.

Sherlock doesn't want to say that though.

[captainwatson]

John rubs his eyes that still seem to have a human quality to them. He smiles.

"Did you get any sleep?"

[desecrated]

"Some," Sherlock looks down, a bit ashamed.
Should he have gotten more than he did.

[captainwatson]

John touches his face; "We'll try to get this sorted out."

He gets up and stretches a bit, starving for some breakfast before they go out.

[desecrated]

Sherlock turns up his face and kisses John's muzzle.
He should make sure John eats.

[captainwatson]

John does likewise and asks the cook to prepare some honey on toast for Sherlock's breakfast, though he needs almost a full meal for himself. He doesn't want to give into the urge to hunt down a deer in the grounds.

They finally get a Skype call from Mycroft a little later.

"You wish to find a cure in Knockturn Alley? It is accessible via the Leaky Cauldron pub in Central London which takes you to Diagon Alley. That is the main 'shopping centre' for the Wizard community. Knockturn Alley is its rather nefarious sister street, where most are advised to stay away from. The merchants there deal in dark magic and potions. Are you sure you wish to go?"

[desecrated]

"Can't see another alternative," Sherlock says determinedly. "John?"

[captainwatson]

"You don't have to come, Sherlock. I'd rather you were safe. Maybe checked on Rosie if you want." John says, remembering how the wizard treated Sherlock as a 'Muggle'.

"John does have a point. Muggles are welcome in Diagon Alley, usually accompanying magical relatives, but they are more likely to face discrimination or attack than even someone of John's current nature. Humanoid creatures are more welcome there, though I do advise not drawing attention to yourself."

"It's up to Sherlock." John does have a...rather strange desire to see this hidden world.

[desecrated]

Sherlock hates the fact that he might be... excluded because he knows nothing about this world of magic and he knows London so well.

[captainwatson]

"Do you want to come?" John asks again.

[desecrated]

Sherlock sighs and nods. "Course. Can't leave you."
He briefly thinks of them trying to drug John and sell him, though why he'd think that he doesn't know.
What is this world he has never heard of?
