Sometimes, you have to tell the truth. No, I mean, you have to. Maybe it's magic, or a promise, or nanobots; who knows. But you have to tell the truth, and everyone knows it. Of course, do half-tuths count? What about lying by omission? That's up to you, and how far you want this curse, this ailment, to go. The only thing that can't be escaped is the truth, whatever form that truth takes.

[ robert nods and stares at joseph for a long moment, thinks of all the things he wishes he could say and realizes how much of them he can't. even like this, forced to tell the truth through no will of his own, he still doesn't want to show everything.

but he does give one thing and it would be a peace offering, if robert didn't close his eyes and look so pained to say it. ]

[he wishes he could argue back and say, i am. he almost does. except joseph knows that when he says that, really, he only means physically. his actual presence. he can't give all of his emotional love to robert because it's being tugged in different directions, so much that he can't commit to either side - robert nor mary.

so joseph just watches him, goes quiet, then. it is heavy, this silence.]
