You may go to school but you don't have class

Mostly because I'm surprised we've never had this kind of meme before. We love high school AUs. We love romance. Why not combine those into a glorious mix?

Your teen years are important, formatively speaking. You're trying to find out just where you belong and what kind of person you're going to be. This already daunting task is complicated by the soul-sucking demon known as high school. If you weren't having a hard time before coming here, you certainly are now.

Add into this mixture raging hormones, and baby, you've got a misery stew cooking. But it's not all bad! Sometimes high school crushes can be sweet, and the occasional high school relationship lasts.

So whether you're too cool or distracted for romance or always on to the next good looking stud, come on down and try to navigate the romantic labyrinth that is the halls of Bakerstreet High.

Comment with your character and preferences. Needless to say, aging down and AUing is welcomed and probably necessary. Have fun with it! Feel free to include a short blurb about your character's Bakerstreet High self. Are they popular? The class clown? A drifter? A band geek?

childhood: You've known each other forever. Puberty has changed a couple of things, though.
friends to more: Best buds, right? Can you let a little crush get between you?
always there for you: You've seen the person you've liked for forever get hurt time and time again, always offering a shoulder to cry on. You should make your own move, unless you're content in the background forever.
bad boy/good girl: Or bad girl/good boy, or bad boy/good boy...there's a certain appeal.
the innocent: They're the delicate little pure flower of the school. Do you genuinely want to date them or is this a mission for corruption.
smitten puppy: You know the type. Always following the object of their adoration around. Don't you want to sweep them off their feet and show them there's other fish in the sea?

hate at first sight: You hate their guts but you can't stay away.
sudden hottie: Were they always so bangin', or did taking off their glasses or pulling down their ponytail do that much?
too shy, too blind: you're too shy to tell them how you feel. you also don't see that they clearly feel the same.
kindness counts: They were kind to you, which is a pretty big deal in high school especially if you're an outcast, and you can't help nursing an even bigger crush.
sudden attraction: You're the kind who falls instantly and hard.
always on the move: You change crushes or dates like underwear. Maybe this one is the one, though.
nerd love: Both of you are social pariahs. At least you have each other.
into older people: He or she is the kind of teen who's so mature and always dating college students or even real adults. But you can change their mind about their peers, right?
differences in social classes: One of you is popular, the other so not. Can you make it work, or will the popular part be ashamed?
opposites attract: Sometimes, the weirdos get the hottest babes.
awkward confessions: You want to get your feelings out into the open - curse your voice cracking.
asking you out: You'll totally borrow your dad's car to take them to the movies. Or here, here's your letterman jacket. Go steady?

detention: As the Breakfast Club taught us, it's possible to find love in a hopeless place.
experimentation: It doesn't count if it's above the belt, right? And finger definitely don't count.
over the top: You're that couple that is always on the PDA or being schloopy and goopy romantic. Don't be that couple.
first kiss: Pucker up.
first time: Is it romantic and slow or in the back of someone's car?
drunk: Drunk confessions and attempts to make passes are ill-advised.
fight: High school couple fights can be deadly. Avoid at all costs
the volatile couple: Speaking of, there's always a couple that seems to be fighting 24/7? When they're hot, they're hot, when they're cold, they're glacial.
finally together: You're the will-they-won't-they of high school, and when you get together senior year, the whole class will give you a standing ovation because FINALLY.
long term couple: When did you guys get together? Probably like middle school or something. You've always been together.
hide who you are: Unfortunately, even these days some people make it necessary for those who don't conform to the "ideals" to hide their true selves.
break up: Statistically, it was bound to fail.
after graduation: Can you guys make it work after you lose the common ground of school? This can be challenging if you're going to be living in different places.

Jubilee stared out the window of her home in the suburbs. "It's a beautiful day out there," she murmured, clearly unaware she was voicing her thoughts for the fourth time since the study session with Barb had begun.

Her mind was clearly not on studying, but then it seldom was. Jubilee knew she needed the boost in her grades, and she knew Barb liked to collect extra credit the way most people collected Pokémon. But getting Jubilee to focus was a difficult task.

She turned back to Barb for a moment. She found the smart redhead to be really cute. "Don't worry, I'm listening," she told Barb, even though it was obvious she wasn't.

"Pretty sure you're not..." Barb frowned. Jubilee was cute enough, not that her attention ever really strayed that way, but the girl was unreliable at studying. It wasn't like Barb had a lot of free time to teach, either, between gymnastic training and extra curricular activities. So she valued this time.

She wanted Jubilee to pay attention.

"What's it going to take to keep you focused?"

This got Jubilee's attention, at least for the moment. "What'll it take? Hmmmm... probably a bribe, or ... Y'know, incentive. Like ... candy! Or a banana shake! Or gratuitous nudity! Or a video game duel. All those are great ideas." She was basically listing a bunch of random things, just to see how Barb would react. She didn't really expect the redhead to cave on any of the suggestions; she mostly wanted to see what she could get away with.

Also, stalling Barb was a pleasant side benefit.

She kept her face straight for most of it. Until her cheeks flushed bright red at the words "Gratuitous nudity."

"What!?" Okay, maybe the girl was just joking. hat would make sense, right? Why hadn't she just thought of that earlier...

Jubilee had a sly grin on her face. "Oh, yes, I said it. I said those two words guaranteed to get anyone tingly and naughty: Banana. Shake. By the way, you're really foxy when you blush."

Toying with Barb was just way too much fun.

"You get an A, I'll buy you a milkshake. Now how about focusing on the work?" Okay, shrug it off Barb. She was just joking. She was just teasing to make Barb blush.

Which was working.

Jubilee's eyes lit up. She liked where this was going. She scooted forward and looked at Barb with a puppy-dog expression. "So what kind of grade would I need to make the gratuitous nudity happen?" Barb wasn't getting off that easily.

"Sorry. I only go out with A students." A small smile on her lips. She was just trying to get a smile. "Like ones who get 100% on their tests."

Jubilee shrugged as if this were no big deal. "Hey, if that's what I gotta do to see a nekkid Barb, let's do this."

The studying session resumed, and Jubilee did in fact pay more attention. Over the next few weeks, Jubes and Barb met for studying regularly, and Jubilee's grades started to noticeably improve.

"Admit it, you didn't think I could get better at this," Jubilee said one day as they took a break from studying.

"I had semi-perfect faith in you. Scouts honor." She lifted a hand to her heart, smiling teasingly. "I just didn't think you'd put this much work into getting a banana shake."

Over the past few weeks, 'banana shake' had become more of a code for Jubilee's incentive than her actual one. After all, it wasn't as if Jubilee couldn't have bought a banana shake any time she wanted. What she actually wanted ... well, she was pretty sure Barbara had caught on.

"I can put lots of effort into things," she replied, moving toward Barb and gently placing her hands on Barb's hips. "Especially if I want it bad enough." She leaned in for a kiss.

Barbara's chest beat faster. She didn't pull away, but she didn't lean into it - her mouth just slowly opened, ready for the kiss, ready for Jubilee.

The girl was making progress. It scared Barb that she might really want what she claimed, but at the same time....

Hey, an opening mouth seemed to Jubilee as if she were cleared for landing, so she did. She licked lips with Barb, experimentally but with enough passion to let Barb know she did want this.

After a moment, she broke the kiss and looked at Barb. "So. Scale of one to ten. How would you rate the smooch?"

"How about 'first?'" She suggested. Her life never really had time for things like.... a girlfriend? A girlfriend. Well, there had been Pam, but that girl had gone a bit off the deep end.

And they'd never kissed.

Hearing this, Jubilee abruptly got excited on Barb's behalf. "First kiss? Dude, that's like a milestone! We gotta celebrate!" She held out a closed fist. "Fist bump!"

She supposed this was actually a serious matter. "But, uh. You didn't think the kiss was weird or anything?"

"weird?" she asked, a little confused. The first bump was more confusing. Her hand pressing against Jubilee's....

"I mean... do you think it was a good kiss ... or a bad kiss?" She looked at Barb's hand, then into Barb's eyes with her big puppy-dog eyes. "Would you want to try it some more?"

"I.... Guess? I never thought I'd be kissing a woman, though..." Or anyone. She'd never put any thought into her identity.

"A woman? Where?!" Jubilee looked around, as if by reflex. Clearly she had difficulty thinking of herself as a woman -- or, even worse, a lady.

She shrugged. "Well, ya kissed a girl like me, and the world didn't end, so ... now what? Want to find some boys to kiss, or something?"

"Uh, No. No kissing anyone else while your girlfriend's around." Did she just say girlfriend?

Well, maybe it had been ignored.

Judging by the way Jubilee's eyes lit up, the comment had not in fact been ignored. Jubilee was infuriatingly sharp when she wanted to be.

"Well, then. Guess I'll just have to stick to kissing my girlfriend. "And just to make it official..." She leaned in and kissed Barb, a bit more passionately than before. This time there was tongue.

Barbara's mouth opened, taking the tongue - a little nervously, though. She'd never had a girlfriend before, never made it official before.

Her arm slid forward, around Jubilee's waist, tugging her closer.

Jubilee leaned in as Barb tugged her closer, shivering as her tongue slid against Barb's. When she came up for air, it was only reluctantly. Her hands roamed all over Barb's back.

Her heart was beating, faster and faster. She wasn't sure how she'd ended up like this, but she was. Enjoying it.

As their chests were pressed together, Jubilee could feel Barb's heart pounding. It was such a turn-on, and it meant they were even; Jubilee's heart was thudding just as much.

Playfully, she scooped Barb into her lap so Barb's chest would be even with Jubes's face. She placed her ear against Barb's heart to listen to the heavy beats. "I think it's tryin' to tell me something... so cool." For good measure, she nuzzled her face against Barb's breasts.

The small breasts were a matter of some self-consciousness for Barbara, even if the slender figure was of some aid to her gymnastics. She blushed horribly at having her breasts nuzzled, wishing that her breasts were as heavy as her heartbeat. If only for a moment.

"Uh.... Jubilee??"

Jubilee looked up reluctantly; she was rather comfortable listening to Barb's heartbeat as she nuzzled her chest. It was so relaxing. "Yeeeeeah, Barb?"

"....You. Really like my chest, huh?" Barbara didn't really get that. She wasn't overly sensitive about it, normally. She'd never had a girlfriend before, though. "There's. Not much room in there."

[ the academic type-- generally only hangs out with her sisters or herself if she isn't studying. will talk to class or club mates if necessary, but generally keeps to herself. at least when spoken to, she does make a point to at least be polite! ]
