Congratulations: You are dead.

Maybe you know how, maybe you don't. Perhaps the memory is fuzzy, or perhaps it's crystal clear down to the look in your comrades' eyes. Maybe it was your time; you've done all you wanted to. Or maybe you weren't at all ready to go, maybe you went out kicking and screaming - but none of it matters. You know you're dead, and the train is taking you to an afterlife. Perhaps an afterlife of your choice; you might've earned that heaven. Or perhaps you've earned something else entirely.

It'll be a bit of a journey, though, so you might as well take your time and talk to the other people in your coach. Death knows no place: most of them are strangers, even from faraway worlds. But death knows no time either, so who knows, some of them may be people you know, even if last you knew, they were alive - or long gone.

Oh look, here comes the snack cart.


All the usual:

• Post with your character's name and canon in the subject line.
• Said character is now dead for whatever reason - canon, AU, what have you. They are on a train with other dead people from many other times, places and worlds.
• Characters don't know for a fact where they're headed - just a general awareness that they're going to some kind of afterlife. Whatever they think it is is up to the player.
• This meme is built especially for cross-canon interaction, and potentially for threadjacking and group threading - if you're interested, may be a good idea to state as much in your subject line.

John has been walking through cart after cart on this train, not knowing how he got here or what the bloody hell is going on.

He can't find his phone, can't recognize any scenery out of the windows or any of the other faces he passes (some looking blankly ahead, others just as confused as he feels)...

He can't even voice the gratitude he feels when he enters a new cart and finally spots a familiar face.

"Sherlock. Thank God." Coming closer, "Do you remember how we got here?"

[If there's one thing you can say about the man wandering down the aisle of the train, it's that he doesn't look the least bit surprised to be here. With good reason, too, considering the note he went out on. This is hardly what he planned, but judging by the way he's strolling past, hands in his pockets and a expression on his face, he seems to have accepted this is his lot.

Of course, once he walks past the snack cart and sees the short individual behind it, he displays the first signs of shock. She looks so young. It's really a shame she ended up in a place like this--but he knows as well as anyone the young are hardly spared this sort of thing.

Pausing to pick a sandwich up off the cart, Neil smiles down at the girl. The least he could do was keep her company for a bit.]

I didn't think anyone else was up and about. The place seems kind of dead this time of night.

He's been moving up and down the train trying to find a way off, or at least some kind of explanation, but he stops when he sees the familiar face, not sure if he should be grateful she's here too or upset.]

[Even tragedy sometimes comes with a miracle; even after her life was gone, she'd retained every memory of the Port. So, she recognizes his face as soon as she opens the door to the compartment. It must have only been a few days ago that they'd last spoken, talking about witches, or contracts, or maybe even something more lighthearted. Her stomach sinks with disappointment. She knows all too well what this place represents, and of all the people to meet here...

She'd been looking for a stranger, someone to be there who hopefully wouldn't ask any questions about what had happened, but this is at once more horrifying and more comforting. Horrifying, because... She'd hoped to never see him in a place like this. Still, she can't deny there's a small part of her that's relieved to see a face she knows. Regardless, her first words come out fearful and concerned. Why him, of all people? Why the boy who had promised to protect her no matter what?]

Joe? What happened? [Her hand doesn't leave the door to the compartment that she's opened, and all of a sudden her body feels much heavier than it had before.]
