1. Let's just get through today - it's a special occasion! Whether it's a birthday, Christmas or some other celebration, it's a big day and there's a lot going on. Control the sugar rush and avoid tears before bedtime, and you might just survive it.
2. What did you do!? - The dreaded call from the school has come, and now you've got to march down there and find out what your wayward child is up to today
3. Sick Day - Nobody's going anywhere today, call into work and notify the school, because your child is ILL.
4. Big shoes to fill - This is not your child. They're your little brother, your niece, your best friend's son, their real parents are gone and you're the only one who can step in.

1. Playdate - Oh my gosh you'll love my friend, he has a kid too! It's a blind date based solely on being parents, and your kids are there as well. Oh this should be fun.

[When his dad had woken up from a two years long coma, things had long since changed but in a much different way the hallucinatory dreams his dad initially and sometimes still spoke about. For one, the world of work, school, and play still thrived, and all the people he had seen in his dream were alive and well. They were doctors, patients, grief counsellors that passed by over the years. The only thing that remotely tied to any truth is how his mother remarried to Shane and had his half sibling, a little girl named Judith. Lori stopped coming in to visit Rick a year into his coma, but let Carl visit sometimes to talk to him. That was the only reason he could think of that led his dad to believe his mother was gone.

And in a way she was. When his dad woke up in hospital and was healthy enough to leave, Carl was the only one still wanting to be in his dad's corner. That's how it came to his custody being split between his parents. He knew his dad was having more trouble than him about it, but Carl was feeling pretty upset about it too. Like any kid, he'd rather have both his parents together. His mom not seeing that didn't help him like her at the moment either. Sure, Shane was an all right guy, Carl knew he was being irrational, but he couldn't help feel the man couldn't be the slightest bit his dad with his real dad around again.

And to top it all off, his school work and motivation was starting to suffer because of his feelings. A day ago, he failed a quiz worth 10% percent of his grade. His mom was on him the minute she picked him up. And he was already upset about it enough that he told her to leave him alone and tuned her out the rest of the ride.

When she dropped him off at the end of the week in front of his dad's new place, he slammed the car door behind him without letting her finish reminding him to study and telling him to be good. He tossed his backpack over his shoulder and rushed inside. He looked at his dad when he came in. "Bad mood" was written all over him.]

[ A child being sick was usually a worrisome affair, regardless of circumstance. When that child was non-human, and the usual prescriptions for remedy weren't compatible with his physiology? Doubly so.

Junior was trying to be brave, of course, but he felt miserable. His temperature had skyrocketed and felt as if it was trying to boil the blood right out of his little body. He still insisted on having his favorite blanket tucked in against him, even if he meant fussing and kicking it away occasionally before tugging it back in again.

A mournful warbling could be heard from Junior's room as he tried to get comfortable. For all the good it was really doing him, at this point. ]
