The competition included boys who brought stuffed animals and full sized demonic statues to the arena, boys who ate his own weight in snacks between quarters, so a boy of his particular tastes was notable in passing, but not much more than that. Not that he particularly wanted to be known in that light but in some ways it was insulting, too similar to the way his talents went overshadowed largely by those same monsters.
But not being too well known had its uses. Even if he'd had a reputation, it wasn't too well known, and he knew enough Good Boys to have mimicry down to an art. He also wasn't some basketball savant; he took some pride in his craftiness extending beyond the court unlike those idiots who dedicated their youth to a sport that'd be over for them, efforts down the drain in the blink of an eye.
Still, if he were at this event, he planned to win. He'd made some mistakes during the last winter season, he could admit to that. Blowing off Shuutoku to take in Seirin might have been a misstep. He had justification for it at the time, but the results were what mattered. Having been limited to spectating since that match, he had a familiarity with most of the teams present lineups. That meant that having an eye on the list of those participating in this particular event allowed him to see who he needed to analyze to have a perfect repertoire.
He already knew Kuroko Tetsuya. So when his eyes fell on that name in the office where he volunteered, as a member of Kirisaki's team captain and member of the disciplinary commitee, he should have moved on. The way his eyes lingered on it felt too familiar to the sensation that lead him to blow off Shuutoku for Seirin.
For all the problems with that plan, Kiyoshi Teppei was still trashed. He wasn't here, after all. He was out of the high school basketball circuit forever. That wasn't something he took solace in like a silver medal; his destruction was a masterpiece. Personal. The only mistake was what it cost his team.
Nobody else on his team was here for this. So focusing greedily on Kuroko wouldn't be a mistake.
No, even if it was... His distinct almost hiccup of a laugh broke out, earning a curious questioning from another event staff member. He smoothed it over, stating with a smooth and perfected smile that he was excited by the talent he saw coming into the event.

It was fine if Kagami Taiga tried to retaliate on the court, it'd have a humongous payout and enough agents in place to stop him. But he had no intent to tangle with him outside of the safety of the court, no matter how intricate a web he might have been able to spin. You didn't catch tigers in spider webs.

His eyes scrolled the list. Kise Ryouta. That'd work. If he picked Aomine, he'd likely tell him to go switch to room with Kuroko because he wouldn't want to deal with him. Aomine also might have had some annoying sense that something was up and wouldn't mind interjecting himself in with Hanamiya instead. Just remembering the bathroom run-in left a bitter taste in his mouth, and not the kind he usually liked. Unlike Kagami, Aomine was lazier than he was hot headed; he wouldn't attack until given an impetus, so Kuroko would let it happen. Kise would himself insist on switching to room with Kuroko if room switching were brought up by Kagami, and in the end there'd be no switch. Kuroko would insist he was the most even tempered one best able to resist Hanamiya's baiting. Unlike Aomine, Kagami could be made to snap too easily. Kuroko would worry about him. He'd also worry about Kise and throwing him into Hanamiya's lap--ironic, given he didn't feel comfortable enough with Kaijou's personalities to try anything there.

If hearing about Seirin's stupid, shounen manga style cheering during Kaijou's quarter finals match was annoying at least it lead him to having more data on their cartoony, goofy interaction patterns.
Good Boys were annoying. So why was he looking forward to his time with Kuroko? Without thinking about it too much, he wrote it off as his typical sadism.

Despite the kernel of disappointment, Kuroko found solace in the thought that little time would actually be spent in the room itself. Even aside from that comfort, Hanamiya wasn't someone violent off the court. As he packed his bags and began his trip, he steeled himself against the words he was sure Hanamiya would use to mock him. Kiyoshi would be his primary weapon, but Kuroko wasn't Kagami, and he wouldn't be baited.
The knock draws the calm attention of Kuroko Tetsuya to the door. He has only seconds to think it may have been Kagami before his roommate enters the room. Kuroko is in front his bed, with his suitcase unzipped atop the flat sheets. Beside his bag are several sets of folded clothes he'd had no time to put away before going to practice and then dinner with his teammates -- Hanamiya has caught him in the midst of unpacking. Moisture still collected at the tips of his light blue hair, an obvious sign of his recent shower.)

Hanamiya's mask seems perfect until he'd seen the hideous face hiding beneath, and he won't be fooled into thinking the predatory spider would suddenly and without obvious prompt let go of his disdain for Seirin. That doesn't mean Kuroko has to respond in kind, but he has to shield himself from the incoming taunts.
With the 'greeting' out of the way, the nearly-invisible teen returns his attention back to his unpacking. The toiletries have already been placed in their shared bathroom, which leaves only his clothing behind. After practice, Kuroko had changed into a loose orange tee and grey slacks, a comfortable pair of clothing that allows him freedom of movement.)
