[Part of being a good Phantom Thief was taking note of everything about your surroundings. Akira alone among them had the distinct knack for observing everything, and the level-headedness to put that into practice in most situations. Most situations didn't typically include... this.

They'd barely scraped through fighting Akechi, only to have his cognitive self show up to finish the job - not entirely seeming to care which job he was finishing, either. There was danger. They should run - they should all run, but Akechi himself didn't seem to have any plans of coming with them. He could understand why - he didn't feel he belonged, he'd killed Haru's father, he was facing the realization that his own knew more and cared less than he'd ever imagined. It made Akira's heart ache for him, and he wasn't even the one going through all of it.

But it did give him the chance to observe, to think, to follow potential trails of logic. None of them could handle an outright fight with whatever Cognitive Akechi would become. He knew that, he knew they all knew that. There was a hatch neatly put away, seamless with the floor. There were emergency switches. There was fear and panic and a desperate need for redemption.

And there was a threat, coming right on cue, a pistol aimed at them all, and none of them all the same. A plot.

It was past time for talking, now, and he only had moments to act.

So act he did.

It was more dangerous, more stupid than most things they'd done yet for him to run forward those few feet, for him to loop Akechi's arm around his neck, for him to draw his gun on the cognitive doppelganger. He couldn't kill him like this. He could fire on him long enough to drag their idiot friend back, to safety, to everyone else, to proper cover while he uses one last bullet to fire on the emergency switch himself.]

Don't try to be the hero now, Akechi.
