 The Piggyback Ride Meme

Ahhh. The immortal piggyback ride. So versatile, there are so many uses for it—to transport the injured and the beloved, as a means of showing affection, and to even play. It's not just for romance. It can be done between parent and child, siblings, friends, medic and patient, even complete strangers and, in those rare moments, mortal enemies! Just be sure the person can carry you, yeah?

How this works:
→ Leave a comment with the usual information in the subject line: character name, fandom. Any preferences, including what you don't want, should be included as well. If you want, indicate if you want your character to Carry, Be Carried, or Both. 
→ Congratulations. Your character is one half of a piggyback ride with whoever tags them!
→ Tag around.
→ Feel free to roll RNG (1-9) if you cannot come up with scenarios of your own. 
→ Have fun, and be excellent to each other!

• 1 — Injury. (You can't walk like that. Here, let me carry you . . . )
• 2 — Romantic. (Obligatory shippy option.)
• 3 — Escape. (You're on the run and one of you is moving too slow or can't move at all!)
• 4 — Surprise! (That back right there? I'm going to jump the fuck on it and they don't even know it yet!)
• 5 — Duty. (EMT, military and disaster recovery personnel, firemen, etc. are sometimes required to carry civilians like this.)
• 6 — Game. (Chicken fight, park games, made-up games, whatever!)
• 7 — Wasted. (Go home, you're drunk. Except you can't walk . . . )
• 8 — Platonic or Familial. (It's such a beautiful day, can I carry you?)

Miles is not great at planning ahead. Or at planning. Or at thinking.

How this man ever graduated college, let alone got an MA, is a question for the ages.

He's about to make another questionable decision, because Marie's been quiet and distant lately, and he wants to cheer her up.

"Reverse suplex piggyback!" he shouts, and ducks his head under one of her arms, trying to lift her up. It's not really a reverse suplex, or any kind of suplex at all, but his original idea, i.e. of grabbing her around the stomach and flipping her over his shoulder, would have been terrible for everyone involved.

Still funny, though.

Of course, the feeling was not at all mutual and Marie began to panic from the very second he attempts to pick her up. She flailed, in an attempt to get loose or to make it too hard on him and force him to let go, and began shrieking as loudly as she could.

All she had done was just wander out of her safe room for food at the wrong time.

Eventually she just sent the hardest right swing she could muster towards his ear hoping to be released so she could run to somewhere safer.

She might not like the idea of hurting other people, but she also isn't stupid enough to let herself get hurt by other people. Of course, her mind isn't working well enough to be able to tell its Miles and that he wouldn't purposely do anything bad or hurt her - she's acting on months of impromptu self defense lessons and enough anxiety that it was a miracle her heart has not given out.

Well, he really should have predicted this, and, you know, not done it.

He stumbles back, letting go, his hand going to his ear. His head's ringing, and his skin is fizzing. Stop. No threat.

"Aah! Shit, sorry," he says, trying to give her space.

She quickly darted away from him and behind the couch, trying to put enough space between herself and him as she possibly could. It wasn't anything personal, but she really, really didn't like that and she couldn't think. Her heart was pounding and the rest of her was shaking, screaming at her to keep going, to go hide or just get away. She, at first couldn't speak, she was trying to breathe.

Eventually, she managed a few things to say even with her body revolting.

"WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?!"

She had been lost in her own thoughts when he suddenly sprang like that and it really, really scared the hell out of her.

"YOU...YOU'RE AN ASSHOLE. WHAT MAKES YOU THINK YOU CAN DO THAT, HUH?"

The rest of it is a hodgepodge of German and English curses and other things that anyone sane would scream if they were scared and picked up like that. She keeps going on and on - all of it basically incoherent (complete with arm waves) except for one last part, "Go away, go away, go away. I hate you, go away. Stop getting in my space. Just leave me alone."

Then she bolted out of the room and out the door with a slam.

"Ah-ju-wa--ho--"

He completely and utterly deflates under the stream of multilingual invective and (highly deserved) insults and criticism. Yeah, he, uh. Deserves that. All of that.

"I'm...sorry..." he calls forlornly after her, and then sits down on the ground. He's not going to go after her...let her cool down first.

After about ten minutes, he texts: Sorry. Im a shithead

She couldn't hear his attempt at an apology, she could only hear pounding in her ears as she stormed away and eventually settled on a hiding place that was within walking distance of the house (not that there were many other places she could safely go) and let herself curl into a ball.

She still felt entirely on edge when her phone buzzes and she glares at the message on it for a good hour and a half before responding:

An hour and a half had gone by, and Miles was beginning to climb the walls. No word; he was starting to think she'd chucked her phone down a storm drain and left for good. "Shiiiiiiiit."

He knew better than to go after her; that'd just chase her away. She'd reply if and when she wanted to.

So when his phone dings, he fumbles for it so hard he falls off the couch.

She had thought about chuckling the phone down a storm drain and running for good, it honestly was looking like a good idea for a minute.

Better than lying in an empty house on the floor. But better than going back.

She had finally emerged from hiding for the sake of food, but now her stomach was really rumbling.
