S T R A Y Taking in strays is, all in all, an understandable vice. The dips in between their ribs, those large and forlorn eyes, they can help you forget the claws and the teeth and the danger lurking beneath fur. But the habit's a knife edge; your efforts may not be rewarded with kindness (animal instincts aren't discretionary) and you may get bit despite what you've overlooked. A stray doesn't care about pity. All it can know is survival. These warnings apply to strays of the more human(oid) sort, too. But what may even more perilous with this type than any drawn blood is what you can get when they grow to trust you. You can earn their undying loyalty...or their love. Either from such a wild thing is a precarious path to go down, if you allow yourself to do it. Comment with your character, preferences, desired roles, etc. This meme has shippy undertones, but shipping is not required. Just mention if you absolutely don't want it. Reply to others. Thread!

Elias only went out into the human world when he needed to. As his housekeeper needed a few things, this was one of those times.

For a guy buying milk, eggs, and a few other little things, he was very nicely dressed, in a vest, coat, gloves. Casual wear was something he didn't have much of a concept of. Course this wasn't his actual form but a little bit of glamour magic helped him appear human, though he couldn't quite change his eyes from red to a less conspicuous color.

He paid for his things and stepped out onto the street, walking a little ways before turning down an alley.

Only to find a young man there. Hm, usually this one was unoccupied.

Normally he'd turn around and find another alley to teleport back home in but this man caught his interest. Not because he looked like a white haired scarecrow, but he could sense some form of magic around him. Not magic from the Neighbors, but something...dark.

This intrigued him.

[ Keep your head down. Blend in. Don't draw attention. Don't let anyone find out what you are. Those are the tenants she's lived by in the weeks since being dropped into this universe, and she does her best to follow her own damn advice. But try as she might, accidents happen, they always do.

There are little incidents here and there, brushes of bare skin with people on the street, a nudge from a coworker at the bar. The brief touches leave people disoriented and nothing more. But when a drunk customer grabs her, expecting more than she would ever be willing to give? There's no easy way to explain why the man ended up unconscious.

So she runs. There's no point in staying in NYC, it's too crowded and there are too many memories of a world that doesn't exist anymore. She makes her way to the train station and picks a destination at random - somewhere cold, to help explain all the layers. Somewhere quiet, so maybe she can find her way again. Somewhere that could possibly feel like home one day? Doubtful. ]

If there was any doubt how Fenris spends his nights, check the wounded coast. The guard has gotten used to cleaning up bodies, and the alienage is used to shell-shocked refugees wandering in at odd hours. It doesn't happen every night, not even every week, but it happens. And, usually, it goes Fenris' way.

Tonight, it doesn't. Tonight, he underestimates the strength and number of the mercenaries, he misjudges a few jumps, and luck isn't on his side. It happens. The important thing is that the slaves managed to escape with their lives, and Fenris with his, though he's gotten a broken arm and a black eye in the process. It's nothing he hasn't had before, nothing healers can't fix. He'll drink to numb the pain, and go see them when it isn't two in the morning.

That doesn't mean he's feeling particularly forgiving, wandering through Hightown toward his mansion. It's two in the morning and the rich and ridiculous sleep on silk sheets made with slave labor. His head is killing him and his arm is bent at the wrong angle. He drags his sword on the ground, making an awful scraping noise that echoes off stone walls. He doesn't much care for secrecy at the moment.

He didn't know why she took him in. It was New York City and he was a complete stranger. Beat up, shot, carrying two money bags filled with hundred dollar stacks, maybe a few fifties mixed in. If that wasn't enough indication to stay away from him, the guns in his position should've been.

Not even when he insisted not to call 911, did she bat an eye. Margo apparently had a death wish. No. It was Seth who had one.

History had a tendency of repeating itself and he hadn't learned from the last job that'd gone sideways because he'd done it solo. Richie was caught up with a dame, leaving his older brother out to dry. Seth got in over his head by trying to start up somewhere no one knew of the Gecko Brothers.

Miami might've been a better idea than the Big Apple. Seth thought that as he'd been bleeding out, not so much after two weeks with Margo. She did more than take him in or tend to his injuries. Weeks turned into months. Two of them. She'd ask questions but not push, though sometimes he swore he was under some spell with how things would spill from his lips.

He'd told her about his brother being a culebra and the Mayan temple filled with them in Mexico, escaping from prison and the heist that had let them to Mexico to begin with, and how he managed to get inside information on Brinks deliveries which had been the score that landed him on her doorstep.

Two months was halfway to three but she hadn't asked him when he was leaving. She hadn't asked him that in awhile. Neither did she ask if he was in pain anymore. His face was back to normal other than in need of some grooming and his ribs felt healed. Grooming was the conversation they were currently having. Argument was probably a better word.

"It's just a few capillaries in my eye. I can see good enough." No, he really couldn't. In his effort to trim down the beard he'd grown, there were patches along his jaw. Yet if Margo continued staying in close proximity then more walls were going to come down for Seth.
