Caught in the rain

It started out quietly, and then, quite suddenly, you're caught in a storm. Time to find cover. Nothing much to do but to wait it out.

Scenarios listed below for those who want 'em.


i WHERE:
001 PLAYGROUND - Well, you can try to hide under the slide or maybe in the jungle gym... at least you're some place fun?
002 PARK - Always happens, caught outside trying to take advantage of the weather... and it ends up pulling a fast one on you.
003 STORE FRONT - Better hope they have an awning you can take advantage of.
004 THE BEACH - Not exactly the best place to be during a rainstorm, however it is possible to get caught in a sudden storm.
005 WILD CARD - Anyway you want it.


ii HOW:
001 TREE - Not the best cover, but it'll have to do, stay close to the roots and you won't get too wet.
002 UMBRELLA - Most conventional... Kinda boring. But it works.
003 NEWSPAPER - Not permanent, but it'll have to do. Good luck.
004 BAG - Well... y'gotta do what you gotta do.
005 NONE - You know what. You're a rebel. You don't need cover. Screw convention.

There's a dragon living in Central Park.

They say he's a big as a house, with wings that could span a highway and a crocodile's tail that could kill a man with a single blow. He has the talons of a raptor, the teeth of a saber-toothed tiger and eyes as red as the Devil of Hell's Kitchen himself. Or so the stories go. Elliott, of course, takes issue with some of those less than favourable descriptions of himself.

It's true that he's quite large - and still with some growing left to do - but that he would use his size to his advantage, to dominate and frighten and harm, is unthinkable. As big as he is, he walks through Central Park with only the lightest of steps, his vast wings slightly unfurled to help lighten his tread. He snakes as easily through the trees as the rivulets of water that have been steadily collecting at his feet as the rain worsens, barely making a ripple nor a sound as he ducks under and between boughs and branches.

And, for once, he isn't invisible. If there was anyone in the park to see him, they'd be able to tell that his eyes aren't red. They're the warmest shade of brown, gentling the otherwise fearsome appearance of his boar-like tusks. His tail is long and thick like a crocodile's, granted, but softened by three layers of soft, green fur, both insulating and waterproof. The heavy rain rolls easily off of him and Elliott hardly even needs to shake the water free to stay warm and dry in the worsening weather.

He can't say the same for the people he's been watching run back and forth through the park, ducked under the canopies of their umbrellas or briefcases or newspapers, too absorbed in escaping the elements to notice the eyes watching them from between the trees. He watches one woman slip in her high-heels and nearly breaks from his cover to help before remembering himself, slinking back into murk and shadow and contenting himself just to watch as she hurriedly gathers up the spilled contents of her purse.

He shouldn't get involved. Humans are dangerous and, despite living in a city where there are literally millions of them milling around, Elliott's successfully managed to avoid all of them so far. And he intends to keep it that way.

[ ugh, it figures it would start raining out of nowhere just when mishima had gotten far enough away from the station that it wouldn't make sense to try to run back for cover. and of course the first storefront awning he finds belongs to a shuttered-up electronics store and not something useful like a convenience store that would actually sell umbrellas.

(though to be fair, this is probably what he deserves for staying out in the red light district and fishing for leads until it's almost time for the last train. again.)

with a sigh, he leans back against the dark building underneath the awning, and rubs his phone screen against his sleeve to try to dry it off so he can check the forecast for the rest of the night.

Sometimes it rains, and it thunders, and that feral child you know tries to sneak into your room. To be fair, she doesn't usually do this. She finds other, better places to hide when it rains. To be fair, it usually doesn't thunder like this, with gales knocking branches out of trees. To be fair, she brought pizza.

Laura has no interest in the front entrance. Then she'd have to deal with the others, who she doesn't like nearly as much. She balances on a tree branch instead, and slips her claw under the window, jimmying it open. If she didn't like Conner, she'd just cut a hole in the glass and crawl through, but she's learned that some people object to that.

She throws the slightly damp bag of individually wrapped pizza slices onto the floor before she crawls in through the window, dripping wet and scowling.
