But now, not anymore. It's time to bring the news to your significant half.
Time to break up. See other people. Or don't.

Roll the ol' RNG or just do what you want (I mean, break up however you want, I don't judge)

RNG for the why and how (starting with "why"):

Woke up this morning to find demons in your bed. Literal ones. This cannot be stood for!
You're having an affair and now you've impregnated (if you're male) or have been impregnated (if female), and the result will not be attributed by your love interest.
The idea of marriage is not a prospective one.
The dating was a scam anyway. All the other girls/boys were doing it. Now that the sham is a shank, time to cut future losses.
Your reasons are your own. Keep it a secret to others, and yourself.
No amount of parents and their name calling would get you to break up, but this is the one exception.
There's an arranged marriage in the mix so its time to lay him/her down easy.
This is the number eight and it means roll again or just make something up

The "how and where"

At your house/their house.
Break up at the first place you two met (assuming it wasn't in like a space carrier in the sky that blew up or something)
For the long distance relationships, there's always Skype....
Text, meet, greet, then lay the news down as easy as possible. I hear restaurants are popular for this sort of thing.
Dump them at a park or some place by the river. I mean, metaphorically.
Never a good idea to break up in the middle of something important, but "this" is also important. Call them ASAP!
Or, perhaps, you're having second thoughts. Call and plan one last date--maybe it won't even be your last!
