Rain Meme

Caught in the rain
It started out quietly, and then, quite suddenly, you're caught in a storm. Time to find cover. Nothing much to do but to wait it out.
Scenarios listed below for those who want 'em.
i WHERE:
001 PLAYGROUND - Well, you can try to hide under the slide or maybe in the jungle gym... at least you're some place fun?
002 PARK - Always happens, caught outside trying to take advantage of the weather... and it ends up pulling a fast one on you.
003 STORE FRONT - Better hope they have an awning you can take advantage of.
004 THE BEACH - Not exactly the best place to be during a rainstorm, however it is possible to get caught in a sudden storm.
005 WILD CARD - Anyway you want it.
ii HOW:
001 TREE - Not the best cover, but it'll have to do, stay close to the roots and you won't get too wet.
002 UMBRELLA - Most conventional... Kinda boring. But it works.
003 NEWSPAPER - Not permanent, but it'll have to do. Good luck.
004 BAG - Well... y'gotta do what you gotta do.
005 NONE - You know what. You're a rebel. You don't need cover. Screw convention.
006 WILD CARD - that's the way you need it.
iii WHY:
001 REJECTED - Welp. Rejection sucks. And no one will see you crying in the rain.
002 WAITING - For the bus? For someone else? For some revelation? What are you waiting for.
003 MELANCHOLY - Sometimes the best place to feel a bit down is out in the rain.
004 HAPPINESS - Is everything going your way? Are you singing a refrain while walking down the lane? Just singing. Singin' in the rain.
005 ANGER - WELL YOU KNOW WHAT. SCREW YOU TOO, RAIN.
006 WILD CARD - Anyway you want it.
>> POST with your character
>> TAG others, use RNG if you need to, or just make up your own scenario if you want!

[ Well, a kiss is absolutely not what he was expecting after his questions just came tumbling right out of him, but he can't help smiling into it anyway, not even hesitating to kiss him back as he reaches up to slide his hand around the nape of Charlie's neck.
The kiss lingers, but he breaks away to grin at him, his glasses mildly askew. ]
So, ah, I take it asking questions is okay?
no subject
You should know, I absolutely love talking shop, and I like never actually get to talk shop.
no subject
But trust me, I want to know all of it.
[ Sam does, after all, love to learn. ]
no subject
Would you like to see some magic?
no subject
Is that a serious question?
[ Since the answer is obviously a resounding yes. ]
no subject
[ He doesn’t see a reason to resist the temptation of kissing Sam any longer, so he leans in to press a quick kiss to the corner of his mouth before he gets off the couch. ]
Prepare to be amazed.
[ And considering the place is filthy with books, it gives Charlie a good place to start. He lifts a hand, index and middle fingers extended together, and begins etching a mark into the air in ice blue light. The language of Charlie’s magic is probably unfamiliar to Sam, though he might recognize some of the base shapes of the runes from the tattoo that runs along the inside of Charlie’s right forearm, a series of runes in deep blue ink. This spell is different than the one on Charlie’s arm, though, and soon the runes take on their own unique shapes, illuminating the space in front of Charlie.
With more of a flourish than is probably necessary, Charlie finishes off the final rune in the spell, and the light dissipates suddenly. A few of the books from a nearby pile lift into the air, flopping open to gently flap their covers and pages like wings. The books make a lap around the room, coming to hover between Charlie and Sam with a motion of the wizard’s hand.
He is definitely showing off. ]
no subject
Oh, now that is cool.
The books fly around the room, and Sam just watches them with a big, amazed smile spread across his face, admiring the floating objects between them with nothing short of awe. ]
Incredible.
[ He looks from the books and back up to Charlie. ]
So is... [ He mimics the movement of Charlie's fingers briefly. ] ...is that how your spells work? Is it a language?
no subject
It is, but it’s not a spoken one. Only written.
[ He moves back to the couch to plop down next to Sam. ]
Casting spells can take as long as a few seconds to a few months depending on what you want to do and how complex is it. Hell, the enchantments I have on Wyn took me years to get right.
no subject
You enchanted Wyn? What did you do with her?
no subject
[ A beat, and he makes a face. ]
The last part was an accident.
no subject
Well, I don't think I ever expected to hear a suit of armor described as a moody teenager. How'd that get thrown into the mix?
no subject
The personality just kind of happened.
[ He shrugs. ]
I probably couldn’t duplicate it if I tried, but she’s by far my best work.
no subject
[ He just thinks this is so cool. ]
So I assume some of your spell casting has something to do with the tattoo on your arm?
[ He reaches for Charlie's right arm, partially to hold his hand (just because he can) and partially to get a better look at the runes on his forearm. ]
no subject
The tattoos are like a… spell shortcut. I don’t have to cast it because it’s already there, I just have to think about it.
no subject
What spell is it? Or is it multiple?
no subject
[ As much as he doesn't want to, he pulls away from Sam, standing again and moving back a ways. ]
Throw something at me.
no subject
[ He cocks an eyebrow at him, but he's willing to humor Charlie. He reaches over for a small book on the side table next to the couch, then chucks it at the other man — not too hard, of course. ]
no subject
[ But it’s said with a smile. Sam lobs the book at him, and when it gets a couple of feet from Charlie, it freezes in mid-air. It doesn’t even seem like it’s just simply suspended- it is well and truly frozen, the cover halted halfway open, pages unmoving. Charlie lets it hang there for a bit before he reaches out and plucks the book from the air, closing it as he brings it with him back to the couch. ]
no subject
So it stops projectiles? Or can it just stop everything at any point? Can you control where it moves after you've suspended it? Why specifically this spell? And—
[ He stops himself when he realizes he's asking so many things at full-speed, and he needs to cool his jets. He clears his throat, looking mildly sheepish. ]
—ah, sorry. I'm getting overexcited, aren't I?
no subject
Darn. ]
Easy tiger. Let’s start with the basics, first.
The alphabet of runes we use for our magic is… very vast and complicated. Like, really complicated. It’s pretty much common practice for a wizard to pick a set of runes that serve a similar function and devote his study to those- we call them Specializations, and there’s officially nine of them, though technically there’s ten.
I’m what we call an Animator; my magic revolves around the enchanting and control of inanimate objects.
So, why this spell? Because commissioning Defensive spells is expensive, so I designed my own.
no subject
He frowns a bit, confused. ]
Do you find yourself needing defensive magic often? I wouldn't think owning a bookstore is dangerous work, but with that and Wyn...?
no subject
[ His expression sobers some, and he leans back a little. ]
Let's just say I had a close call once and I just don't want it to happen again.
no subject
His Skill is the tip of the iceberg.
So instead, he reaches out, sliding his hand into Charlie's. ]
Well, I'd like to hope that it won't.
[ And he offers a gentle squeeze. ]
Just out of curiosity, what did you mean that there are "technically" ten Specializations?
no subject
Most wizards like to pretend that Necromancy isn't a thing, when it most certainly is. It's not an "official" Specialization.
no subject
... Necromancy exists?
[ He didn't see that coming, but he's not sure why not. ]
Is it just "frowned upon" or actually illegal? Do you have separate laws for wizards? Is there an entire society outside of how the non-magical people function? Are there restrictions for keeping this kind of magic secret?
[ ... he's going to keep babbling questions this time if Charlie doesn't stop him. ]
