Pet People

The AU!Pet Person Meme (Shipping & Smut)
>> premise | |
Hello, and welcome to The Care and Keeping of Your Pet! As you surely know, a pet is a big responsibility, and we're so glad you've decided to be a conscientious master. A safe pet is a happy pet, and this handbook is certain to keep your precious lifelong friend as content as can be. The history of the animal person is a long and difficult one, with their origins not being known even to this day. However, scientists believe that despite our common appearance - most animal people have humanoid forms except for the ears, tails, and sometimes teeth - we share no common ancestry, even if the ascent of this species corresponds with that of the homo sapiens. We gained dominance over each breed thousands of years ago, beginning with the dog type, who have long been considered "man's best friend." Most breeds these days are docile and perfect for owners of any speed. Of course, it is our duty as the superior species to take care of these animal creatures, and this is inherent in their genetic makeup. Everyone knows that an animal person, when matched with their correct human master, is loyal for life - a true "soulmate," if you will. Far be it for us to turn this away! Ever since the Great Domestication, these intelligent and loving animals have served us as friends, workmates, guardians, servants, and sexual companions and will for years to come. Despite recent hubbub from so-called "Pet People's Rights Activists," this way of life is wholesome and good. Scientific research shows that the natural desire of the pet person is to be owned and cared for by a human. So, it's your first pet. What do you need to know?
With that said, thank you and welcome to your first day as a pet's master! |

Needless to say, The Care and Keeping of Your Pet is a bit biased and full of propaganda, but it gives a good idea of the world your character is now AU's into. They are either a pet person or a human master, and what that means for them varies. So are they a devoted pet or a rebellious animal person looking to buck the system? A generous master or a cruel sexual sadist? Just a normal pet owner? Most likely they're something in between, but when you're raised in this world, it's difficult to see anything different on the horizon. Rules

Prompto Argentum | FFXV
He's clearly some kind of chocobo as it is.]no subject

He's an OC - don't have quite the variety of icons just yet, still waiting on some art - but that's fine, I don't mind.]

On the first day he'd quickly discovered the kennel wasn't the funnest of places. Most people seemed to be going through the motions. It wasn't very lively and most pets felt... well, mostly forgotten. They got their food and their shelter and not much else.
He didn't want to be that way. He came here to make their lives better, not just to make sure they were still alive. He tried to stop and spend time with the different pets - hold the old dog who spent most of his time sleeping now, pet the kittens who had been rejected for some reason or another, comfort the grieving little hamster that had lost its owner... There were many there, all with a sad story.
That's when he got to Prompto. He had no idea why no one had taken him in. Maybe because he was smaller than most chocobos, but Thistle thought he was adorable. He put on a big smile when he opened the pen to bring his food in.]
There's my little chocobean! How are you doing today?
no subject
Thistle! I'm good! It's great out, isn't it??
[He has no issue in coming in close, peering with all curiosity in those bright eyes.
They've also mentioned that people get turned away from him when he'll tuck himself into a corner of his pen, almost like he was depressed.]
Tell me you've got breakfast? Please? Kweh?
no subject
It is. Maybe I'll be able to take you out for a walk today.
[He didn't always get the go ahead, but it never hurt to try.
Plucking a berry off the top of the pile, he held it up between thumb and finger.]
Say "ah"!
no subject
I'd love to go out.
[That was putting it mildly. He wanted to be able to run as far and as fast as he wanted but he was here instead. This place was safe and he had no idea how to defend or care for himself out in the wild. Chocobos were supposed to be kept safe.
Still, he does just as asked and opens his mouth, then happily chews on the berry when its popped in. With a lick of his lips, he'll eagerly for go for his breakfast, toes digging into the soil under him. While his fingers seemed quite human, the tough feet and their ending talons gave him away as much as anything else.]
Are you gonna be around all day? [Definitely with interest. Maybe he'd have the chance to spend the whole day out.]
no subject
[He had a tendency to throw little compliments around here and there, and laughed softly when Prompto so eagerly took the berry before handing him the bowl with the rest.]
It's the weekend, so I can stay as long as I want.
How about I fix up your feathers while you finish your breakfast, then we can see if you can go out?
[He gestured towards a seat. Of course, there were some tools about for him to use, and he grabbed a spray bottle among some other things. Prompto didn't seem all that bad since he had been keeping him groomed, but he didn't want to get negligent.]
no subject
I heard there's people coming up to the shelter today. Rumor's that they're looking for a bird.
[They both know what that means. Another chance, maybe, for him to get adopted. The chocobo no one's wanted in all of this time, but Prompto is always hopeful when he knows people are coming.]
no subject
Sounds like you'll have a home soon, then. I don't see how they could resist adopting such an adorable chick.
[Okay, maybe Prompto was a little old to be calling him a 'chick', but still. He was pretty cute.
He started with his top feathers and knelt down to get his lower feathers, going through them one at a time to get them clean. It was fortunate that things like this had been pretty routine, so those fluffy feathers seemed to be looking fine.]
We'll have to make sure we get back before they come. You wouldn't want to miss them.
[He grabbed a blow dryer and went over him almost haphazardly, never keeping it in one spot too long. Couldn't let him get cold from being wet.]
Did you hear what time they're coming?
no subject
Do you really think so? [There's still such hope in his voice even after all of this time.] I know they're coming sometime this afternoon, but that's about it?
[He fluffs up his tail feathers to get the hot air to hit all of them, then gives them, then his whole body, a hard shake. A feather falls out which Prompto grabs out of the air before it can hit the ground. He spins it between his fingers before he gets an idea, turning around and with a deft hand, tucks the feather behind Thistle's ear.]
no subject
[He giggled a little, doing nothing to stop Prompto as the feather was placed in his hair, and even turning his head slightly for him when he saw what he was doing. With a mischievous flutter of his eyelashes, he asked.]
Think I could pass for a bird?
[His hair was a vivid golden blonde naturally, not being too far off the natural color of a chocobo. He put up the hair dryer, and grabbed a little washcloth to dab away any berry bits that Prompto had on his face.]
no subject
Can you sing? [He'll give a little croon of sound like a chocobo calling for a chick, a sound he's heard but can't remember from his past.]
If you can sing, you can pass for a bird.
no subject
How's that?
[Reaching out, he took Prompto's hand to lead him out of the pen, not too worried. Prompto was... spirited, but he was a good boy.]
no subject
[Prompto immediately gave a thrill of sound somewhere from the back of his throat and took the hand, taking a breath when he was outside of the pen and letting go, stretching himself out as if he couldn't do it in there.]
Maaaaaan. I don't know why I always feel so cooped up in there but this always feels like the best. <
[He had more than enough room to stretch and move in his pen, but outright running was never going to be a thing.]
no subject
[He led him by the hand at first, until they got up front and he had to spend a little time telling the receptionist that he was taking Prompto for a walk and get everything sorted. Fortunately, or unfortunately, people tended to be a little 'lax' there because there wasn't much at risk. Who was going to complain if one of the pets disappeared? No one would even notice outside of the kennel.
He led him outside to a fairly modern street. The kennel was a small building seemingly shoved in the middle of a bunch of other buildings, plopped somewhere in the middle of a city. It wasn't the place to go and see nature, but there were different options around.]
Where do you want to go? We could walk down the trail in the park. Or go to the Daylight Festival. Or... We could always go to the mall.
[He liked to give some options, let the pets see the world. Sometimes he'd throw things like 'the museum' or a monument in there. He didn't want their outdoor time to be as monotonous as their indoor time.]
no subject
Anywhere! [Prompto was trying to look at everything at once, but he knew Thistle would want him to decide so he thought on it before tilting his head.] Daylight Festival? What's that?
[Then tilted his head up to the sun. It made his feathers brighter, brought out the freckles on his cheeks. His talons scraped against the sidewalk before he lifted a foot up, balanced easily on one leg as the other tried to tuck it itself up agaisnt his body. Sun bathing was always a good plan, too.]
no subject
Nothing that unique. Just a little festival with some games and rides. And shops.
[He already started walking that way, letting Prompto follow him on his own.]
There's a big slide and a fun house there. Should be lots of good food, too.
[Now that they were outside, they could actually hear the sounds of the festival in the distance. Yelling and screaming and hundreds of people chattering away.]
I think there's even a pet show.
no subject
As in me kind of pet or actual animal pet-pets?
[He might have been a pet himself, if someone would adopt him, but he had an absolute fascination with other animals.]
no subject
You know, I'm not sure. We can check when we get there.
[He slowed for a moment to get close to him.]
If there's a show for birds I should enter you in it and win a bunch of money for "Cutest Chocobo".
[The entrance to the festival had some non-spectacular booths just behind an archway. It was a small local gathering, so everything was stuff that could be put together and taken apart in a matter of days.
He paused as they approached a large public fountain where someone was taking pictures for money.]
Should we get a picture? Then we'll have something to remember each other by.
