How about receiving the benefits of experience and knowledge...through someone else, someone older than you and more distinguished? Be good, then, and you'll be rewarded. Dal Dal's mother had called him in a near frenzy. The woman's employer had made a mistake in their arrangements, and the week-long conference that she'd made plans to attend next month was in fact that coming week, and the family with whom her precious daughter had been scheduled to stay with was similarly out of town. Of course, the woman had heard nothing but the greatest praise about him from her daughter, and Dal Dal's improving grades confirmed just how fine and trustworthy a person he was, and could he possibly find it in his heart to take the girl in for a week?

Kenji had assured the woman that he would find a way to make the necessary arrangements somehow.

The teacher greeted mother and daughter at his door smiling politely and accepting the woman's profuse thanks and taking Dal Dal's suitcase inside. Older man and teenage girl watched from the doorway, waving as the taxi spirited the woman away. Once it was gone and down the block, Kenji, hand nearly trembling, closed and locked the door.
