John's triumph at a solid connection is short-lived thanks to Gladio's swift action. The doctor finds himself winded as he's knocked forcibly back and down. He recovers and makes it back to his feet, knowing he needs to press his advantage. He uses the sword in his hand as a counterbalance as he kicks again, this time high toward the hand holding Gladio's sword.

It's a much smaller target than the blade, itself, so it's less certain of a hit, particularly if Gladio's back on his game. John's going to go for it while he can, though. Of course if he misses, it will likely be easy for the Sentinel to tip him over and get him down at swordpoint.
