What makes a home?

The TOOK YOU IN Shipping Meme
They were on your front door, in your yard, or on the street, confused and clearly in no position to fend for themselves; in a worst case scenario, they were bruised and battered, possibly close to death. Bleeding heart or not, you can't just be so cruel as to let them suffer. They need a place to stay, and you'll open your home to them...long enough to get back on their feet, anyway.
Speaking of feet, the shoe could be on the other one. You're worse for the wear - in a new place, possibly injured, certainly not in the best state of mind. You could not even remember how you got here or who you are to get here, for that matter. You may not want to remember. Whether willing or not so willing, you're in no position to turn down help, especially if said helper won't take no for an answer. No matter how dedicated you are to looking after yourself, there's only so much you can do in your position.
The two of you are staying together, at any rate. Only for a while, the plan is. But after said while, even though strength and confidence is returning to the injured, there's something a little different between you two. It could be the close quarters, the kindness shown, or a number of things, but quietly, softly, feelings have grown. Could more confusion and hurt spring from this? What about when it's time to go? Can the temporary resident leave as easily as they intended? You're so close now, perhaps a little while longer can't do any harm...
...until whatever it was that put them in such a perilous position in the first place comes back, and there could be "justice" for anyone who's dared to help.
RULES
- Comment with your character and preferences. Say if you'd rather play the taken in or the person taking them in.
- Reply to others.
PROMPTS
- ғɪɴᴅɪɴɢ — Who's that? They're no ordinary passersby! Were they in an accident? Are they foreign? ...should you approach them?
- ʀᴀɪɴ, ʀᴀɪɴ, ɢᴏ ᴀᴡᴀʏ — The elements make this night no time to sleep out of doors.
- ʙᴀᴄᴋ ᴛᴏ ʜᴇᴀʟᴛʜ — Cuts, broken bones, injuries all of sorts...you have to stitch them back up, then make sure they don't get any
- ɢᴏᴏᴅ ɢᴜᴇsᴛ — It's all you can do to show gratitude to the person who took you in. Fix them a meal, care for their house, whatever you can do once you're able.
- ʙᴀᴅ ɢᴜᴇsᴛ — FUCK THIS PERSON AND FUCK THEIR COUCH. You didn't ask to be brought here. Let them clean up after you, you don't even care.
- ᴡʜᴏ ᴀᴍ ɪ? — How you got into this situation is a mystery. Even more of a mystery is your identity, and why the person you were would be so displaced.
- sᴇʟғʟᴇssɴᴇss —
- ʟᴇᴀʀɴɪɴɢ — If you've been injured badly enough or can't remember all too well, you might have to relearn a good deal. Luckily, you have a helping hand.
- sᴄᴀʀs — Scars from the encounter that lead you here or scars from prior, you don't want them to see either. You still have your secrets to keep.
- sᴛᴜʙʙᴏʀɴ — Ugh, your house guest is so stubborn! They always get up when they should be resting, have the worst habits, and completely disrespect your home! You'll get to them, one way or another. Or you'll throw them out. You don't want to, but you will.
- ᴄᴏᴍғᴏʀᴛ — Bad memories or nightmares wreck you; your host and nurse comes to your side unexpectedly.
- ᴄᴜʟᴛᴜʀᴇ ᴄʟᴀsʜ — The person who's taken you in is from a different culture or lifestyle than you, and adapting is harder than you thought.
- ᴄʀᴇᴀᴛᴜʀᴇ ғᴇᴀᴛᴜʀᴇ — Think learning about a new culture is hard? Try being a different species. Can you keep your little eccentricities at bay for the good of your station?
- ᴊᴇᴀʟᴏᴜsʏ — Now that your emotions towards your caretaker/host/jailer are softening, you're finding yourself unusually jealous of those in their life who were close to them before.
- ɴᴇᴡ ᴀᴄᴛɪᴠɪᴛɪᴇs — You never thought you'd have fun after all that's happened, yet such simple gestures as a picnic or a movie make all the difference.
- ʀᴇᴀʟɪᴢᴀᴛɪᴏɴ — You love them, this person who's taken you in or this person you've found. It's not a pity or a thankfulness, it's love, and you know that now. What you choose to do with this information is
- ʜɪsᴛᴏʀʏ — Suddenly, the person who's been so nice to you finds out that the two of you have a history. You killed their loved ones or caused something terrible. How can they forgive you?
- ᴘʀᴏᴛᴇᴄᴛ — So much has been done for you. The least you can do in return for the one who helped you at your lowest is make sure they never have such a low point.
- ᴅᴀɴɢᴇʀ ᴄᴏᴍᴇs ᴋɴᴏᴄᴋɪɴɢ — Anyone in the way of getting to you will be destroyed, and that includes the person you're staying with.
- ʟɪᴠᴇ ᴡɪᴛʜ ᴛʜᴇᴍ — You've been given a home, maybe which you've never had before. You don't want to leave.
- ʀᴏᴍᴀɴᴄᴇ — Not only are you living with them, but you're starting a proper life with them.
- ʀᴇᴠᴇᴀʟ — All secrets are laid out on the table. You've decided to tell about your past and what lead you here.
- ʀᴇᴠᴜʟsɪᴏɴ — What you've done and who you are is so heinous, they want nothing more to do. You're to leave their home and leave them alone.
- ᴀᴄᴄᴇᴘᴛᴀɴᴄᴇ — It doesn't matter what they've done. You've opened your home and your heart to them, and nothing's changed.
- ᴘᴀʀᴛɪɴɢ — All things must come to an end. No matter what you feel for each other, it's time to leave. Hopefully, you'll see each other again.
- ʜᴀᴘᴘɪʟʏ ᴇᴠᴇʀ ᴀғᴛᴇʀ — Come what may, you've decided to stay at your new home with the person you love. Now, it's safe enough to do so.

3, with shades of 6
The shock makes Edgeworth bolt up in bed, but he pays for the sudden movement, and he lets out a loud, undignified yelp as he feels a sharp stab of pain in his ribs. He winces and tries to lie down, biting his lip as he moves slowly, slowly back against the mattress. Once the pain fades, there's only one question on his mind: What happened to him? He remembers a fall, and someone reaching out to him, but after that his memory goes blank. Edgeworth frowns and cranes his neck, trying to see as much as he can of his new surroundings. Was he brought here by a friend? Or is this something worse?
wow pretend that real life didn't kick my ass
Sangwoo isn't that type of person unless he wants to be.
He's only walking past the room when he hears some hints of movement, peeking over his shoulder as he notices the stir of life on top of his mattress and decides it's best to introduce himself now. He should, at least, considering he dragged him here without taking him to the hospital for obvious reasons.
"Hey," he flicks on the bedroom light with his usual drawl, "you were out for a long time, you doing okay?"

Cityscape!
Busted water mains result in entire streets being washed away, sewers caved in and upper level highways tilted at precarious angles. The innermost sections are the least overgrown, but even those have long since become rusted and ruined.
Turns out installing neuromods in 98% of the population wasn't such a great idea. One hemorrhage-inducing virus was all it took to wipe out most of the population, and those left were...well. Not exactly themselves.
Which is why it's such a surprise for Io to see someone like Briar who isn't glitching out or randomly repeating bits of code to herself over and over, wandering around.
That is definitely going to get her killed. ]
Oiiii--hey. You analog over there?
[ Best to make sure, just in case. ]
no subject
It causes a swell of mixed feelings inside her - glad to see plant life taking over the land humans had taken from them. And yet it seems so... barren, as well. It's not like the forest, where she could hear the birds and other animals as they roamed. It makes her feel homesick, the cracked pavement under her bare feet such an odd feeling that she can't help but frown.
But then there's a voice, and she finds herself surprised as she turns towards it - her overall appearance probably strange, with the dirt and grass-stained dress and flower markings along her hands and feet. Green eyes blinking at Io, processing his words before deciding she has no clue what he means.]
Ana... log? I have no clue what that means.
no subject
They're much less..."friendly" in most cases.
Which is why he's actually a story up in a half-collapsed parking garage, leaning over the edge to peer down at her casually. ]
I'm asking if you're a bunch of errant coding stuck in a human meat-suit or if you're one of those people-eating survivors. [ Because there is an important distinction to be made there. Especially since she seems...well taken care of, actually. More than most. ]
no subject
It's why she huffs, hands placing themselves on her hips as she keeps her eyes focused on him, lips pursing in an unimpressed look. The pavement under her feet is starting to hurt, and so she shifts awkwardly once more.]
I'm neither. I'm just a person, that's all. Not coding or whatever that is, and I certainly don't eat people. [She makes a slight face at that, part of her starting to regret wandering in this far. Just where is she...]
no subject
Huh... [ Io's not sure if this is supposed to be some sort of front or a con, but--colour him intrigued. Io grins and stretches his arms out over the ledge, chin coming to rest on the shattered concrete. ]
So you're telling trying to tell me you're an honest-to-goodness bio-girl? What about your neuromods? Or are you totally organic?
no subject
But that grin gets her brows to furrow, her head tilting in a questioning manner. His phrasing is... odd, but bio and organic are words she understands at least.]
Of course I'm organic, what else could I be? [She lifts her hands and spreads them, as if to emphasis her organic-ness.]
I still have no clue what you're on about. What are neuromods? What have you humans been doing? [Her tone goes a touch clipped there - not too surprised humans have done something stupid, but still exasperated about it. What if... whatever it is they've done, spreads to the forest - to mother? She can't risk that.]
no subject
This and that, nothing...big. In the last ten years anyway. Hey--you really have no idea what's going on at all? I've seen some hermits get eaten in my day but none of them look as well-dressed as you. What's the story there? I've heard of "off the grid" but you sound like you're really off the grid, hahaha~
no subject
Though the lack of an explanation makes her frown, hands going back on her hips once more - trying not to wince when he says about hermits getting eaten. But he is at least right about her being off the grid, even if it takes her a moment to understand what that means.]
Of course I have no idea, I'm not acting confused for fun. I've lived in a forest all my life, so I don't know what humans have been up to. [She shrugs her shoulders, before narrowing her eyes up at him.]
And can you come down to talk to me? It's annoying having to look up.
no subject
She might really not know anything. ]
How about you come up here instead yeah? It's...like, way safer.
[ That's understating it. ]
no subject
And while she was about ready to argue with that, she has to reluctantly agree that he is right. It probably is safer up there. So she sighs, stepping closer to the structure, summoning more vines to creep and curl along the side with a wave of her hand - summoning a branch would be quicker, but probably more noisy. She doesn't want to catch the attention of any people-eaters after all.
So once there's enough vines to climb safely, she makes her way up, climbing with ease and then pulling herself up over the edge. The concrete scrubbing against her hands prompts a wince, but she gets back onto her feet quickly, brushing her hands together as she narrows her eyes at Io once more.]
Now will you finally explain what's going on?
no subject
Uhhh...yeah. How about we take turns on that one? I tell you something and you tell me how you pulled off that neat little trick.
no subject
It's something my mother taught me. It's magic, basically, though it took twenty years to get it right. [Then she steps closer to him, crossing her arms over her chest as she huffs once more.]
Your turn.
no subject
This girl is weird. ]
Humanity as the world knew it ended, like, ten or more years ago. Pretty much everyone is dead.
no subject
Though what he says causes her to stare at him for a good moment, her eyes widening as she processes that. It... Ended? Humanity is gone, just like that? Briar has never liked humans, at times loathed them, but she never expected anything like this. She never wanted anything like this.
So she's quiet, hands clenching into the fabric of her dress as her mind mulls over this. Everyone is dead. Everyone...]
Wh... How? How did it happen?
no subject
Turns out the security protocols they had in place weren't up to snuff when the B1g B4d W0lf [ and yes, his voice appropriately glitches out for just a moment when he says that ] came along. Got into all the neuromods and turned peoples' brains to mush.
Or at least that's what the databases that survived say anyway. I wasn't actually around when it happened.
[ His upload and integration occurred after that initial first wave of infections. ]
no subject
None of this makes any sense, and now Briar is getting the feeling that this guy isn't even a human. Not really - no human makes a sound like that. Which doesn't really make her feel better.]
So all the humans became... brain-dead, because of some kind of virus? Disease? That went into whatever it is they put into themselves. [Is she getting it right? Even slightly?]
But what does that make you, if humanity is gone?
no subject
There's some left but you probably don't wanna meet them anytime soon. They'll probably eat you? Not me though. I'm just your normal, average, routine antivirus software intelligence♥
...Of course I can't actually cure the virus or anything but I'm pretty good at keeping it from melting your brain.
[ Or would be, but he gets the feeling that's not exactly the kind of problem she's going to have if there's no neuro implant inside her head. ]
no subject
Though that's something to think about later, since she just gets him another questioning squint - she has no idea what he just said. Basically, he's not human. Got it.]
I don't know what antivirus software intelligence is. [Look she's never seen a computer or any kind of tech in her life.]
But so then you just... delay the virus? Or something like that? [Though as she speaks, she steps closer to peer at him better - curious about him, now that she knows he isn't really a human. Personal space is a concept that doesn't exist for Briar, and so she forgets it exists for others.]
