burning bright

-Okay so you're sitting around a sweet-ass bonfire in the countryside
-or on a beach
-or under the fucking water for all I care, fuck science, it's your choice
-There's probably like, s'more making or hotdog roasting too, who the fuck cares
-And cheesy sing-a-long songs
-And possibly even underwear burning or like throwing random things into the fire
-Or even dancing naked around it like the satanic witches you are.
-Since y'all are suckers for romance the bonfire is pretty fucking romantic
-It can also be pretty fucking platonic because let's face it sometimes you want to do shit with friends
-Just roll with the scenario, have fun, and enjoy the fucking bonfire because it really looks fucking awesome

So, the hero just waits for the beast to tire itself. [ The flame tiger roars and twists and trashes until it finally yawns and lays down to sleep. ] And when the tiger is sleeping.
Do you know what the hero does next?

"Has himself a nap!"]
Aaaa. [Those are good, and things Felix would do... well, if not run away, because there's no reason to face a tiger that big, no way. But he's got to think heroic here. Hmmm.] ... Yeah, I'd probably take a nap, too. It's kind of contagious. But, uh, that's probably not what the hero did.
no subject
How does that help him tame the beast? Look, our hero is obviously a clever man. He's going to whisper to the tiger's ear and hypnotise him while he sleeps. [ Pretty obvious, isn't it? Who wouldn't have thought of that? ]
no subject
The thought makes his smile thin a little, and he feels a cold wave wash up his spine. He doesn't like that the wording bothers him so much; it's just a fairytale, a silly little story. But when he thinks of what's currently plaguing him, it makes him feel uneasy. He was 'hypnotized'. In a sense. And sometimes he wonders if the mindwashing'll ever fade.
These kids and these crowds don't know the story, though.
They don't need that baggage
He smiles again, more determined.]
What's he tell him, then? This clever guy.
no subject
And who wouldn't want to help a friend, hmm?
[ The kids nod, and he feels mildly guilty for cheapening friendship like that. ]
Do you have friends? [ he asks, wondering if he can turn this story around still and make it actually a nice one. ]
no subject
I do, actually. A handsome cockatiel named King Kong. Dashingly handsome, like his best bud.
[He grins, framing his own face with his hands.
Fight away the sadness with silliness, right?]
no subject
Would you do that to your friend? [ he asks suddenly. ] Hypnotise him like our hero did with the tiger?
What about you?" [ he looks at the kids, who shake their heads. ]
Yeah, me neither.
1/2
It's not nice, to make anyone do something they don't want to.

"What if the hero just asks the tiger nicely to ride him over the mountain?!"
Felix grins.]
A hero with good manners, huh. Great manners.
no subject
I like it. Reason with the good tiger. Lean on its softer side. [ Almost everyone has one. Merlin has a giant one that's pretty hard to hide at times. ]
no subject
Question is, does it work? I bet if you barter it will.
Maybe the hero could promise the tiger at least a steak a week. That's a pretty nice deal.
no subject
But it's a start. Maybe throw in a backrub and health benefits, too.
no subject
I'll trade with him; that doesn't sound half bad.
[But it's late — the parents of those rowdy kids start to lead them all back to their tents, and everything around here becomes quiet, the story woefully incomplete. Felix doesn't mind; he starts unrolling his sleeping bag and tries not to think too much about home and how far away it seems. The fire still burns — one of the elders in the group said letting it go out would be bad, real bad. Monsters bad. And like hell does Felix want to deal with monsters on top of everything else.]
no subject
He adds a log every now and then, leans his back to a rock behind him and--
There's someone else awake too. His storyteller partner from earlier. He can see the whites of their eyes in the dark. ]
Hey, what's your name? [ he asks while stretching out his legs. ]
no subject
Thank god. No concrete orders. Questions, questions he can definitely do. He smiles a bit, illuminated by the fire.]
Right, kind of rude not to give out names. And after all the narrating, too.
I'm Felix.
no subject
Nah. Being caught up in a moment is not that bad.
I'm Merlin. Nice to meet you.
no subject
[Well, since neither of them are sleeping, and this fire needs watching...
He suppose a little chatter never hurts.]
What brings you here in a big creepy place full of nighttime monsters?
Or do you usually travel with the wandering crowds?
