the monster & the maiden fair meme There's a long precedent in folklore and myth of beautiful young people - both men and women - being kidnapped by monsters: dragons, beasts, goblins, demons, elves, vampires, wolves, or even evil humans. In the end, however, these prisoners are almost always rescued and brought back to civilization to live a normal and happy life. But what if they didn't want to leave their jailor? They've seen behind the surface and have begun to sympathize with this "monster;" no, more than that, they've fallen for them. Will this story have a happy ending? Will the monster believe that anyone could love them? Most importantly, though, can the two of them be left alone without any attempts at a "rescue?" how to play Comment with your character, your preference, and what role they'll play. Feel free to AU characters to your desire role. Reply to others. Thread anything that could remotely fit under the umbrella theme. Was the kidnapping just that, or did both parties know (and care) for each other before, making it a collaborative, mutual effort? Perhaps you'd prefer to play the actual Beauty and The Beast-style getting to know each other or seeing behind the grizzly facade. What about an attempted "rescue?" Or maybe you could thread out a scene where the prisoner runs away from the society they were forced back into and returns to their beloved beast! It's all up to you. You could even do smut if you wanted to, but this isn't a smut meme.

"Rrruff! Why are you making this so difficult? Just up-!" He gestures ambiguously with his hands, trying to pantomime her getting into the back of the hay wagon.

He's tied up Alice's hands in front of her, with a rope trailing into his hands to stop her from running away, but she's otherwise she's unrestrained. Not that he hasn't thought about trying to tie her up more thoroughly oh hohoho the things he could do with her if he did that- BUT NO.

No, he was just doing as he was asked. She wouldn't tell him where the ring was, so he was just going to bring her to the queen, and then he was done. He'd get rewarded, debt repaid, then it was on his own again. His lonesome aloneness. Sans jail and presumably execution.

"Look just-" FURIOUSLY SCRATCHING HIS HEAD. "Just get in the wagon, we can do this the EASY way, or the HARD way!"

Making things difficult? Alice thought that was an understatement. She was making things immensely difficult for this asshole who thought he could come along and kidnap her. All because of that ring that Jack left with her after what she thought was the pushiest proposal she'd ever borne witness to.

After she'd saved his life, she was going to kick his ass. A lot.

"Trust me, I'm all for making this hard!" She spat, kicking out.

She called his bluff! He had no idea what the hard way was!

"Alright! Alright." He hops into the wagon and just tries pulling her behind him. "Your carriage awaits, Madam!"

There is a very hard stare from Alice.

"I'm not going anywhere with you."

"Well, you won't tell me where the ring is, so you don't give me much choice do you!" This was her fault, see?

He tugs harder on the rope, leaning back to put his body weight into it.

"We're just going on a nice trip to a really scary- lovely! lovely castle!" He grunts in the effort to pull her up.

"I already told you, I don't know what you're talking about! What ring?" Of course she knew, she was pissed off at Jack because of the ring but if there's one thing she can be sure of? Never tell the crazy man that kidnapped you that you know what they mean.

There's a hiss as the rope cuts into her skin a little more as he tugs on it. Oh, as soon as she can get free of this, she will bring pain. Yes, she knows her skills in martial arts are for self-defense. This is one of those time. Any extra pain is simpy ... karma.

"I am not going to any castle."

"The ring! The one the queen wants! Don't play dumb with me!" He was like 90% sure she was just lying to him.

He grunts and jumps down from the wagon. This wasn't working. "Yes, you are!"

He moves to try to pick her up, trying to hook an arm under her legs.

"I'm pretty sure I don't own anything a Queen would want, buddy."

And it's when he goes to hook his arm, she kicks out. With a very deliberate target.

Wolf is not prepared for martial arts princesses and the blow connects right on the bullseye.

His eyes just about pop out of his head. "Mommy..." and he crumples to the ground in a heap of pain, the rope dropping out of his hand.

With the rope dropped, Alice works quickly, twisting enough to let her free herself. The rope still burns against her skin, and it's raw where it has rubbed again. It's painful, she won't lie. But she can't focus on that. She needs to get with the moving.

"Nooo..." he moaned through the pain as she started hauling off, although he was barely able to manage a crawl and a feeble reach after her.

She was a good clip away before he could stand again and started limping after her.

She was running. In an incredibly dorky, flaily way but honestly she was busy being concerned about the kidnapper following her. When she tells this story - if she tells it - she'll be a lot cooler.

She makes it to the forest (of course there's a forest) and he loses sight of her, but not the smell of her.

He starts stalking through the trees. "Oh, come on!" he calls out. "I'm not the bad guy here!" He just works for her. Sort of.

Not the bad buy? NOT THE BAD GUY? Oh, Alice thinks as she hides in a particularly thick patch of trees, this guy needs to have a quick and strong education on exactly what it is that bad guys do.

He scrambles on the floor, crawling over logs and brushing through bushes as he sniffs everything. He tracks her with relative ease to the copse of trees she's taken shelter in, but he's not in a hurry to rush in after that last encounter.

In fact, he's questioning if he's even capable of bringing her back at this point. He leans up against one of the trees, pretending not to have spotted her.

"Okay! No castle! Why are you protecting that ring so much, anyway? Why is it so important?"

She's keeping quiet, trying to keep her breathing even. But it was a good question, why was she protecting it? Because she thought she could use it to save Jack, obviously. Even though he pushed it on her when she pointed out she couldn't do that huge jump of commitment. It had come out of nowhere. Come meet my family Alice, tonight! Here, wear this and they'll love you.

Who wouldn't have been freaked out?

"Not talking to me, huh? I guess I'm still in the doghouse." Ba dum tish.

He slowly peeks around the tree to see if he can spot her.

"Well, if I'm not taking you or the ring back to the queen, I'm in a pretty bad spot! I'm gonna be on the run as much as you are! Maybe we can be on the run together? You know, strength in numbers?"

On the run? Together?!

The incredulous laugh comes out before she has enough time to slap her hand over her mouth.

"Why laugh?" he asked as he jumped from behind the tree to confront her.

"I know this place far better than you. You aren't from here, I can smell it."

She didn't scream. She did curse. Loudly, jumping back in horror as she did so, and falling into a defensive position almost too easily. After all this, when her brain was able to process, she'd probably question why she was so quick to violence, but right now it seems the best plan.

"Smell it? Oh great, now you're some kind of pervert on top of a kidnapper."

"Pervert? No! Well-" He opened his hands in half-confession, then quickly shook his head in enthusiastic denial. "No, I am a Wolf. The finest and noblest in the land."

He may have been exaggerating the last part.

"I don't work for the Queen because I want to... but she's very powerful... it's foolish to fight her, really. For me, anyway. But maybe you..."

"You just said you could smell me," Alice snaps at him. "That's pretty high on the pervert rating." Then she frowns. "And a Wolf? Lik... Like a werewolf?"

"Is it also perverted to see you? One sense is as keen as the other, it would honestly be easier to avert my eyes than to plug my nose."

"Is that a wolf who is lost?" he asked. "I'm not familiar with that fairy tail."

"No, like.... a person who turns into a wolf." Alice said, frowning. Fairy tale? He thought this was a fairy tale? Okay, so the guy was a kidnapper, a pervert, and clearly in need of a reality check. Fantastic.

He bares his teeth and growls at that.

"Wolves are people too. It's not one or the other."

"It is in my world," Alice shot back. She could remember - in a fuzzy way - being dragged through a mirror. Which was insane, but it didn't stop the words she said from feeling right.
