little steps No matter how much they care for the other person and want to be with them, some people simply can't dive head first into relationships. Little things that form intimacy and romance, little acts we take for granted - being close, holding hands, kissing, showing affection in public - they won't or can't do...at least not right off the bat. Something in their past, their experiences, their trauma, or even their personality holds them back. For both them and the person they're "dating," as it were, this can lead to a frustrating experience. Still, steps can be taken towards letting the walls fall down. Little, tiny steps, but those can mean the world all the same. The People One With the help of a partner, one person warms up. Two Both sides of this couple are learning how to be in a relationship and to be open. The Actions Talking → A relationship can't exist if there's not some communication, so either learn to use your words or become so close you can speak without them. Spending Time → Even such mundane occurrences as watching TV or cooking together is new ground. Touching → You might just find you enjoy reaching out and touching them. Kissing → Another kind of touch, when you think about it. Cuddling → ...at least they're warm and, hopefully, soft. Sleeping → You're at your absolute weakest when you're asleep. It shows trust to doze off around this person. Public Display → It's one thing to be in love in private, but showing you care in public is a different story. Kind Words → Three little words (more or less) are all it takes. Why, then, are they so hard to get out? Sex The ultimate stumbling block to some. To be laid blissfully bare is to truly let your guard down.

They'd parted in the worst of ways. Tony had seen Steve's back retreating with Barnes in arm every night for weeks after their last fight, felt his chest ache at the sight of the discarded shield. Regret was a familiar friend, and Steve's letter had only made matters worse for him.

Casting the thought aside and throwing himself into the Avenger's Initiative was the only thing he could do to stay afloat, but like all things it would come back to haunt him eventually. That it would be happening this soon he should have anticipated - the World could only be quiet for so long before the next threat came upon them. Steve had said he would be there for them if they needed him, but Tony hadn't been the one to make the call.

So, it was stubborn. He knew that. He'd also been sure that someone would call him in. That didn't mean he needed to talk to Steve directly. They had no reason to say a word to one another. Only, here they were - Tony and Steve, in the workshop. He's busy, putting some finishing touches to the latest suit. There are remarks desperate to cut his tongue but he holds back.

Eddie doesn't remember the trip through the singularity, doesn't remember how he got to Earth-2, doesn't remember how he was brought back from the brink of death, but he does know he's been here for some time. Recovering from his injury. Trying to understand why he's here, why he's alive, what the point of it is. Why Zoom needs him, and why he's being held where he is.

With Reverb. Safe and sound and stuck, he remembers every moment since he'd woken up here, still sore and struggling to move properly, with Cisco's face looking at him. It's different, all eyeliner and leather and hair up, and Reverb pulls no punches in making him understand how different he is from the Cisco Eddie knows. Still, it's hard not to become invested in someone he's spent months around, off and on, sharing living space in some pocket dimension Reverb controls. Eddie had gone for some time feeling angry and hopeless and helpless, but for whatever reason, Reverb hadn't left him alone.

Oh, he'd rolled his eyes and given him villain speeches, and acted like he didn't care about Eddie's well-being. But he'd also brought him food, made sure he was getting around okay, and lately, he'd started working on his projects in this space Eddie is starting to think of as his own, quiet, not engaging, the silence going from awkward to companionable.

It's like that right now, Eddie sitting at the table, still sore, breath a little shallow, but upright, playing a game of Sudoku with a cup of coffee by his hand, the french press on the table between himself and Reverb, who is tinkering with a new adjustment to his goggles, hair tucked behind his ear. And he catches it, out of the corner of his eye, the way Reverb's dark eyes flick up to look at him for a moment before flitting down again. It's happened a few times now.

Taking a deep breath, Eddie speaks, still avoiding eye contact, "How's it going?"
