It's more of a surprise than it should be when he shoulders into Ed's room with a teacup and saucer very delicately balanced in one hand and a cheesecloth full of steamed onion slices in the other and realizes Ed isn't curled up in bed, like a sensible person. But of course he isn't. That'd be too easy.

Hobbling up and down the stairs is enough of a pain on its own and Oswald's more than a little annoyed when he pushes into the study and sees his restless workaholic of a friend living up to his reputation. A level of dedication he'd appreciate, of course, if Ed weren't so damn pale-faced.

He just stares incredulously at him a moment, shoulders stiff, a muscle flexing in his jaw.

"What are you doing? I thought I told you to rest."

They stumbled into the apartment sometime late in the evening, Peter unsure and uncaring of the hour, more interested in security than anything. A quick survey of the hallway immediately outside showed no signs of life. In fact, if not for Chris's ragged breathing and the erratic beat of his heart, he might have assumed he was the only one living here.

He fumbled for the lights, leaving a smear of blood along the wall before he finally hit the switch. There's so much of it he couldn't tell what was his and what was Chris's. An ambush had sent the SUV careening off road and right into a tree, and then the bullets started flying.

Somehow or the other they had gotten away, but not unscathed. He's healing slowly, and Chris— Chris was-

No. Focus. Peter wasn't sure how secure their location was, but it was a temporary stop anyway. He dragged Chris into the living room, seating him on the sofa, leaning down to cradle his face in his hands in examination.

“We should get you to a hospital,” he said, heart pounding from adrenaline and worry as he tried to gauge the severity of Chris's injuries. “No, we need to get you there. I'll call Stiles, see if he'll pick us up.”
