The Dating Meme

Dating is, when you think about, really weird. It's a totally different thing for different people. Some are friends for years before they date; others start dating on the same day they met. Sometimes, there's a lot mushy stuff involved; other times, the couple acts just like friends. None of this is necessarily right or wrong.

Whatever it is, your character and the character you reply to are now dating. How? That's up to you. Whether it be awkward or not, the relationship will be uniquely theirs.

1. Best Friends to More: Oh, wow, you've been this person's friend forever! But then you realize you have feelings for them, and they for you. Will things change when you change your status?

2. The Sudden Decision: Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy, but here I am, date me maybe?

3. Confession: You've had feelings for this person for, like, ages, and you want to ask them to date you. Or maybe the confession just slips out...
4. Hate Date: You really don't like this person; actually, you hate them. But you don't want them to be with anyone else!
5. I Guess We're Dating: Huh. We are dating, aren't we? Everyone else knew before us...
6. Slow Decision: For the more mature and seasoned, they might fall into something sweet without needing to rush.
7. Been Burned Before: One of you has had a bad relationship, and now both of you have to bear that brunt if you want to date now.
8. Innocence: This is your first real relationship, so you have to figure it out together. That's harder than it looks.
9. Courting: You're from an old-fashioned world or are old-fashioned yourself, so it's courting, not dating. Still, maybe you can sneak away from the chaperon.

13. The Perfect Couple: The couple that never argues and is more like best friends than a couple.
14. The Not-So-Perfect Couple: Ugh, these guys always argue and seem to despise each other. Why are they even together?
15. Comfortable: You can do anything around or in front of your honey.
16. Not Cut Out for Dating: One of you is anti-social, a jerk, a stoic badass, whatever. You're not dating material...yet here you are.
17. Getting on Each Others' Nerves: Spending too much time together can get even the most patient people annoyed with the person they're dating.
18. Know What You Like: It's almost like they can read your mind, whether it be in the kitchen, at the store, or in the bedroom.
19. Trouble in Paradise: Maybe it's external factors, or perhaps internal, but whatever the case may be, things aren't looking so sunny.

20. Test the Strength: Someone else has an obvious crush on the person you're dating. What do you do?
21. Pregnancy Scare: Hey, it happens. So, how do you feel when the period turns up missing?
22. Getting Serious: Things are getting way deep with this person. They may be the one...or maybe they think they are, while you're not too sure.
23. Old Hat: This relationship is dull. Can you get back the spark?
24. End It: You don't want to date them anymore. You want to see other people.

[Okay, so, Jughead hadn't really expected this to happen. He'd always gotten along well with Betty - better than he did with Archie, sometimes - but he'd never thought they'd be anything more than friends. Then all this murder stuff happened, and then his dad... well. Betty might say that he was the one who was there for her, but the reverse was true too. It felt good to have someone to lean on again.

But the fact remains that he's still completely new to all of this. Kissing, holding hands, going on dates - it never came naturally to him. Thankfully, Betty's pretty easygoing about all of it.

After the whole situation with the Sheriff and his dad and moving in with Archie, they'd figured going out somewhere and getting their minds off of things was a good idea. Pop's was the obvious choice, but for once in his life Jughead didn't really feel like going there. So, instead, they decided to go on a hike by the river - which had the added benefit of potentially stumbling upon clues.

It was chilly, so Jughead squeezed Betty's hand and leaned closer, making their shoulders brush together.]

Thanks, [he said, somewhat out of the blue, glancing over at her with a small smile.] I really needed this.

[Parts of this feel very familiar to Betty, and other parts are brand new. The butterflies in her stomach are old friends, though for years they only appeared when she looked at Archie, and it gave her a bit of a thrill to feel the same giddy fluttering around Jughead now. Going through the motions of a date was familiar, but this felt different to dates she'd been on in the past, as though they were simply practise for this, what she hoped would become the first real, deep relationship she'd had. It was difficult to hope for such a thing with everything going on - with Polly and Jason foremost in her mind, Betty found she felt quite selfish wanting this for herself, but she was determined to enjoy it.

She squeezes Jughead's hand in return, the corners of her mouth crinkling up into a smile. As she takes a deep breath of the fresh, crisp air, she knows it's exactly what she needs too.]

I needed it too - I didn't realise how much. Just getting away from town to clear our heads was a good idea.

[They've both got more than enough problems to deal with. Maybe helping each other will make things easier, even if the adults in their lives keep making the same mistakes over and over again. Jughead knows that ignoring the truth doesn't make it go away, but distracting themselves from it for just a little while can't be that bad an idea, can it?]

Yeah. [His smile grows somewhat as he looks at her, still as bright as always despite her circumstances. He knows she's not as perfect as some people believe - and as her mom wants her to be - but he doesn't want her to be perfect. He just wants her to be Betty.]

Jason and Polly might have had the right idea. About leaving Riverdale, I mean. Sometimes I think this town makes people go crazy.

[As she envisions just packing up and leaving, Betty feels liberated for the briefest moment, a feeling which disappears as soon as she imagines the upset it would cause. Where would she even go?

She looks sidelong at Jughead, thinking it would be far easier for him to take off. She wouldn't blame him if he did, either - between his mother and sister leaving and his father's current state, she has to admire him for continuing to hang in there.]

Have you ever thought about it? Taking off somewhere.

[The question makes him go quiet for a moment, a frown touching his lips. He doesn't want to tell her just how often he's imagined it: being free from his dad, from being picked on, from the crappy state of his life. The number of times he's packed everything up and tried to leave - no, he doesn't want her to know about it. He feels like it might be too much for her, like it might make her think he'll leave her behind.]

Sometimes. [He squeezes her hand again, shrugging.] But I don't know where I'd go. I don't think staying with my mom is the best idea.

[Mostly because he's felt responsible for his dad since he decided to stay behind.]
