They were on your front door, in your yard, or on the street, confused and clearly in no position to fend for themselves; in a worst case scenario, they were bruised and battered, possibly close to death. Bleeding heart or not, you can't just be so cruel as to let them suffer. They need a place to stay, and you'll open your home to them...long enough to get back on their feet, anyway.

Speaking of feet, the shoe could be on the other one. You're worse for the wear - in a new place, possibly injured, certainly not in the best state of mind. You could not even remember how you got here or who you are to get here, for that matter. You may not want to remember. Whether willing or not so willing, you're in no position to turn down help, especially if said helper won't take no for an answer. No matter how dedicated you are to looking after yourself, there's only so much you can do in your position.

The two of you are staying together, at any rate. Only for a while, the plan is. But after said while, even though strength and confidence is returning to the injured, there's something a little different between you two. It could be the close quarters, the kindness shown, or a number of things, but quietly, softly, feelings have grown. Could more confusion and hurt spring from this? What about when it's time to go? Can the temporary resident leave as easily as they intended? You're so close now, perhaps a little while longer can't do any harm...

...until whatever it was that put them in such a perilous position in the first place comes back, and there could be "justice" for anyone who's dared to help.

[ Is it possible to be late to dinner at your own house?

That's not an existential question, mind you, Makoto's a lot later getting home than normal, which, admittedly, used to never be a problem. She's lived on her own since middle school and things didn't change when she transferred to the states about a year or so ago and began living in an apartment filled mostly with older people on the quiet side of Riverdale - though all of Riverdale is quiet. Kind of creepily so, to be honest. It's like the whole place has been scrubbed clean of anything that didn't fit in a perfect picture frame.

Still, she can't complain too much. Her English has improved more than she'd ever thought and school, for what it is, is...well, school, no matter where in the world it is. She's moved enough schools in her life (for fighting, for rumors of fighting, just because the teachers thought she might be trouble) that she's used being the newest outsider and most recent spectacle. The few friends she manages to pick up are something she's used to, as well, and this time there'd been fewer hitches: her height isn't abnormal here, the stereotypes she's used to don't exist.

What she's not used to, however, is how she's fallen in with another "stray." But you don't often expect someone like Jughead Jones at all.

No matter what the case may be, she'd ended up with an occasional visitor and dinner guest and that's pretty nice, if she's honest. She's always loved to cooks and cooks way, way too much for one person, so why not? He's a friend, after all.

Actually, it's very nice. More than she likes to admit.

She's not sure if he's going to drop by and he may have already given up and left since she's so damn late. The idea gets her grimacing. Tonight, she was going to-

Why is it so hard to struggle with an arm full of groceries and try to open her door at the same time? Usually, she has no issue lugging around the heaviest of loads, earning her more than her fair share of looks at school when she decides to help out someone by playing pack mule, but she's trying to juggle far too much while poking ineffectually at her door. All as she favors one arm, the hand on the opposite one bandaged at the palm.

And, shit, there go the eggs. ]
