Derek has only had brief visits to Hell's kitchen before on the account of being a part of various SHIELD mission groups doing routine check-ins on the Defenders. In more recent trips, he's come to this part of the city of his own accord, having come across a certain popular lawyer from a small firm at an evening at Josie's a few times. Ever since then he's developed a crush on the other man, making more frequent visits to the city and with a little digging, his office.
At first, he left small gifts on his desk like a coffee with a note in braille or new information on whatever case he might be working on. Breaking in through the fire escape window minutes before he made into the building was a piece of cake for him. While he held onto a fear that whatever feelings for Matt that he had would go unrequited, he didn't mind the heartbreak.
Eventually, he bucked up the courage to visit his office in person close to closing time. His heart raced along with the butterfly sensation in his stomach as he walked towards the firm's door, giving it a light knock before pushing the door open.
"Sorry to bother but I'm here to visit Matt?" He says to the blonde managing the front desk, whose later introduced to him as Karen. He's pretty sure this is a bad idea but he kinda wants to take him out for a drink or a dumb walk in the park.
When it comes to SHIELD and the Defenders, Matt lets Luke or Danny deal with them while the Daredevil hovers behind. He doesn't like the organization poking their noses in their business, because he doesn't want the mess of the Avengers to bleed over. But the agents themselves aren't bad. Matt's grown fond of Derek especially.
He hadn't been sure what to think, the first night in Josie's when Derek showed up. Matt had recognized him right away. They'd crossed paths enough with Matt in the mask for Matt to know his voice. Not that Derek had any idea that the man he was talking to was also the man he was checking in on now and again. And apparently Matt's made an impression.
The gifts are sweet and endearing. Matt shakes his head at them, and almost laughs when Derek thinks he's being sneaky with the cake. So it's sort of nice when he hears that voice in the small waiting room, and he comes to the doorway of his office.
"I don't usually get social calls. This is a nice surprise."
Derek turns at Matt comment as he spotted him in his office doorway, he gave Karen a little bow of his head and a smile as thanks before he took a few steps in his direction. "I was hoping to catch you before you left for the night." He said as he rubbed the back of his neck, a little nervous, "I was wondering if, maybe, you'd like to go out for a drink or a walk after your shift?"
He knew Matt pulled long hours some nights so there was the possibility that he was going to be busy. Still, it didn't hurt to ask, it wasn't like he couldn't come back another time if that was the case.
