Over the years he had known the centaur, Arthur had gotten good at positioning himself right over his back so he could drop right onto him and grab onto his mane before he even reared up. It had been a lot of [painful] trial and error but he had perfected it by now.

And today, just a little after dawn, was no different.

"Good morning."

For once he didn't rear, no, today he just launched himself forward into a full gallop, weaving easily between the trees, keeping his own body held low to minimize the wind resistance, heading for the river at full speed.

Arthur had tightened his grip on the mane and his legs around Clint's sides, moving with him as he weaved through the forest, letting out a laugh at the rush of it all but making sure to keep his head down for the time being.

He didn't even slow down when they got to the river, just laughed, splashing through the shallows and forging his way forward even into the deeper water.

Mostly he was just curious to see what Arthur would do.

Arthur ended up climbing up onto Clint's back, wrapping his arms around the centaur's neck and his legs around the waist.

He let out a slight yell, very annoyed, "You ass! You know I can't swim!" Which was a bit embarrassing for a nymph his age (even though at 50 years old he was still considered quite young).

He laughed, bending forward just far enough to scoop up a handful of water to splash over his shoulder at the nymph, "Well now might be a good time to learn." He gave another splash on the other side, still grinning.

Though, even for all the splashing, and turning circles in the water, he was still being careful not to dislodge Arthur or dunk him in the river at all.

Arthur made quite the embarrassing squawk at the water splashed into his face, smacking one of the centaur's shoulders in retaliation while still hanging on with all four limbs.

Petulantly, "I don't want to!"

Adding, "I'm a wood nymph! I belong in the trees, not the water." Or at least that had always been his reasoning.

Another splash, "I might believe you if you were a fire nymph, but water helps trees grow, who knows, maybe you'll grow some if you learn to swim." He did, however, finally haul them both out onto the far bank from where they'd started, shaking himself to shed the excess water, still careful not to knock Arthur loose.

Arthur tightened his grip as Clint shook off after leaving the water, sounding genuinely concerned, "But if I get any bigger I won't be able to ride on your back like I do now..." And Arthur didn't like that idea at all.

"Oh hush, I've carried bigger than you." He wasn't really arguing, however, giving himself another shake, mostly just to get Arthur to hold on more firmly. He set off along the path then, "Anyway, breakfast, c'mon."

Arthur did adjust his grip at the shake, frowning and asking, "When have you carried bigger than me?"

"Most maidens are bigger than you." He replied, which was almost an answer, but really only almost.

He hadn't been joking about breakfast, he already had wood set for a fire, and a skinned rabbit tied overhead to keep it out of the way of wandering foxes.

The almost-answer only served to confuse Arthur more, angling his head to try and look at Clint's face, "What do you mean? Are you saying you've been carrying off maidens again?"

He gave Arthur a flat look at that, at least as much of one as he could, "I put them back." He said, though he grinned a moment later, "But yeah, I was, and their baby sisters."

Like many of his kind, Clint liked kids, and he didn't mind playing school bus if he happened to be in the neighborhood at the time.

"Don't talk about them as if they were items," he replied with no small amount of indigence. "They are humans! You should be more careful!"

Arthur knew from experience that not all humans are friendly. He had the scar down one of his thin legs to prove it.

Clint knew that they weren't, but he was also more of a threat to them than Arthur was, so he hadn't really had any problems with it. He'd been yelled at before, and scolded for 'ruining' a few maidens, even if he'd done nothing of the sort, but that was the worst of it.

He just shook his head, "Kids aren't people yet, they're still stuff. Like pups."
