Clanging and moaning, a walker slithers along the blood-slick floor beneath the metal spokes of the shelving units to try and get at him, and this time his foot does end up in a skull. It splatters. He looks up.

Mason is covered from top to toe in blood and not very happy about it. He should have expected it after all when his appointment was man carrying a chainsaw. It was quite the mess and he had been standing far too close. But it was done now so he had been on his way back when he ran into Raphael and he felt like he had to explain himself.

"It's not my blood," he spit out. But after a second thought he realized it may have sounded bad. "I'm not a psycho. Either. It was very accidental," he quickly backtracked.

Or at least to take to a different place. Sure, he could just drop him off somewhere, but he can't afford one of those Revenants finding him, because that might get them closer to him and he really can't afford that right now. Too many, and he's too low on vitae.

At least they got away from whatever that was, but he's getting the impression that the not!kid whom he grabbed more out of reflex than thinking is feeling worse by the second, and he can't for the life of him figure out why.]

[ It's dark when he wakes, but two things are immediately clear to him even before he opens his eyes -- his wrists are shackled behind him, and he's surrounded by the scent of the undead. It's an effort to stay calm, not because of his own safety at having woken in a coven, but because he can't feel Egil beside him. He shifts his eyes to see in the darkness, dimly glowing amber, and there he spots him, in the same cage but out of arm's reach. His wrists are bound with ropes instead of chains, and in front of him, which at least will offer slightly more comfort, but Jericho notices that Egil's ankles are similarly tied, ensuring that he can't get away.

He strains against his chains, testing their strength, but they hold fast, and after a moment he risks softly calling Egil's name. If they're going to get out of here, he needs him awake, but before he can get a response, there's a vampire standing directly before him, a smile pulling at his thin lips.

He's been bitten before, once on a botched job, and once when Amaris had needed blood so desperately that he'd offered his own. The stories of wolves being fatally poisoned by vampire venom were untrue, though he hadn't known this the first time. It'd felt like he was going to die, though once past the initial piercing of the flesh, the pain was a strangely exquisite rush, so intense that he'd wanted to cry, a needle-sharp agony that left him barely clinging to consciousness. The bite is unarguably an awful sensation, but there's something about the particular type of pain that vampires inflict that can leave a human -- or not -- wanting more. He's heard about the ones who offer themselves as living blood bags just to experience the feeling again. He would be fine never seeing another vampire's fangs for as long as he lived.

Faster than Jericho's eyes can see, the vampire grips his throat and slams it back against the bars of the cage. He momentarily sees stars as his skull makes contact with the metal behind him, but there's a part of him that's glad for this, for as long as he's engaged with him, he can't focus on Egil. He forces himself to speak around the pressure at his throat. ] I'm not someone you want to make an enemy of.

We are already enemies. [ The vampire's voice is like slick oil, pitched low and soft. ] You are a guard dog of The Factory.

[ Jericho curses to himself, because he almost can't blame him for the hatred in his voice, but his ties to The Factory have never been a simple matter, and there's little point in trying to explain. If the situation was reversed, he might hate him, too. But there's Egil to think about, who has nothing to do with this grudge between them. ] If your issue is with me then let him go.

[ The vampire tilts his head curiously, dark eyes glittering with interest, with hunger, and in the same second he's across the cage sniffing at Egil. Jericho sucks in a breath, tension streaking through him, his gaze hard. ]

Who is this human to you?

He's not involved. [ Jericho grates out the words between clenched teeth. He can already see how this is going to go, the situation having long since slipped out from between his fingers. The vampire clamps a hand down on Egil's shoulder, kneeling beside him, and Jericho suddenly wishes he could reassure him, that no matter what happens, he won't die. There is no chance that he'll let him die.

Vampires rarely cause death from just one feeding. It's in their best interests to keep their prey alive for as long as possible, and it's the prolonged captivity and the loss of blood faster than the body can replenish it that usually kills a human over the course of several weeks. With The Factory cracking down on the filth that plagues the streets, many of the smaller covens can't afford to waste their prey, and Jericho has already pegged this for one, otherwise they would've been swarmed by vampires. There would've been others in the cages surrounding them. He would've picked up on more than just the old scents that still cling to the room.

He doesn't want this to happen. He doesn't want Egil to have to experience the pain that's about to befall him, but he has to allow it, not least because he can't stop it while shackled to this cage, but because he needs the vampire distracted. It leaves a terrible weight of guilt in the pit of his stomach to know that Egil has to suffer for it, but he sees no other way out right now. He forces himself to remain calm as the vampire grins at Egil, his fangs out, cold fingers pulling the collar of his shirt down. ]

This will hurt. [ He sinks his fangs into the curve of his throat as Jericho shuts his eyes. ]
