Apprentice(shipping).
![]() From the moment we begin our lives, we're learning. It's imperative to surviving, to growing - don't walk in the shadows, it's dangerous, don't touch the fire, you'll be hurt. These days, most continue to hone this natural instinct with formal schooling, but that's certainly not the end all, be all of knowledge. If you go to school or not, if you have the opportunity or otherwise, you won't stop sharpening your mind after those formative years. That's just not the way our incredible brains work. You, specifically, have actually decided to something equally incredible: you want to really dedicate yourself to learning a skill, and what better way than an apprenticeship? Formal or informal, you're under someone's tutelage, absorbing everything they can teach, growing closer to them in the process... ...unfortunately, though, you've gained a little something extra with that bite from the fruit of knowledge. You've fallen for your mentor. Do you realize this pitfall immediately, or will you have to learn the hard way?

gellert grindelwald. hp/fbawtft.
i hate you sm
Part of the reason he doesn't know what to do with it is obvious; there's a very marked age difference between them. Scorpius is well into adulthood, nearly halfway through his twenties, but Jacob is still twice that. Furthermore the man is his mentor. Not in any official position, but in every real, practical sense. By all accounts, he wouldn't be interested in that sort of-- development in their relationship, but--
That does not seem to be the case, if Scorpius is interpreting things correctly. Jacob is a calculating and precise man, Scorpius may get to see a different, more relaxed side of him than most, but everything he does has a purpose. The brief touches are not accidental. The places and ways his eyes linger are not incidental.
There's something forming there, but Scorpius doesn't know what to do with it.
He passes his latest project over to Jacob, a wristwatch that can be wound to surround the wearer with different sets of wards and shields, several of his own (their own) creation. Some settings were contradictory or just wouldn't work well to use simultaneously, but he thought it'd be an interesting challenge to see if he could get it to only use the chosen setting.] I'm having a bit of trouble keeping the enchantments from bleeding into each other.
consider: no you do not
It's interesting to watch Scorpius come into his own, though. More interesting is his skill. Gellert is genuinely interested in that, in the way his magic coils and writhes and pulls effects from the nothingness of air around him. It's beautiful. Despite everything he can appreciate things like this. He felt - still feels - the closest to genuine affection as is possible for Albus, all because of his brilliance.
He's been working toward this slowly. So slowly; it's not that he's a patient man so much as a determined one and every time the way Scorpius reacts increases it's an encouragement to continue. He can't dive into this - even he knows that moving too quickly spells predatory. Still, perhaps it's been long enough. He shifts a little closer when Scorpius offers him the watch and instead practically leans into his side, their heads just next to each other as he cradles the watch along with Scorpius' hand in his own. He speaks and it's just against his ear. ] I've been considering that problem for a while now. The idea of a small barrier charm between each enchantment seemed foolish at first but I think with enough alterations it could help.
[ It's then that he feeds a little bit of his own magic into the spells already settled in the watch. It's like a living, breathing thing, coiling around Scorpius' hand and wrist before moving to where it belongs, separating things neatly within. ] Do you feel what I'm doing with that? How it's going to keep them in proper place? [ His voice is very low and barely audible.
If Scorpius just turned his head to the right slightly, he could kiss him. ]
consider: yes i absolutely do
[A moment's hesitation and he turns his head just slightly to the right, his stomach tying itself in knots with nerves. With want. Another moment and he presses a quick, trembling kiss to Jacob's lips.]
consider: this is a lie
Gellert looks at the younger wizard quietly when his head turns, a barely-there smile curving his mouth upward. He stills at the kiss as though surprised even though it's just what he wanted to draw out of him. The importance is the proper execution. He looks at Scorpius again afterward, just long enough for there to be worry but not panic--
--then he kisses him, barely-there but insistent, one hand lifting to cradle his jaw. ]
consider: shut up
He’s flushed when it ends, obviously pleased and trying not to grin.] What does this mean?

except Maedhros needs someone like her in his life. Maybe she wants an apprenticeship to get a Silmaril? For Beren's sake? And then things happen and the ship sails awkwardly into the horizon?)no subject
I don't mind starting but no clue what scene to set. Maybe where it's obvious flirting but not quite admitting to anything, clearly haven't interracted with another living being in some time??

(She is as lovely as the tales foretold, but Maedhros is determined to be wary of her. No maiden has approached him in centuries; certainly not after he had been captured by Morgoth and tortured within an inch or two of his life. Truthfully, the first son of Fëanor is not comfortable with such attention anyway - so the loss was nothing to him - however her presence is reminding him of softer times...and feelings.
I mustn't travel this road. She is using me.)
Have you rested from your journey? (For Maedhros is not easy to find as of late - unless he is ransacking some city or another with his brother shadowing his steps.) I am surprised to meet you so unexpectedly. What would your father think of your...dalliance...with a Fëanorian?

She is aware of her final goal though. She does know how this must end.]
I believe I have stopped shocking him long ago. [Falling in love with Beren may have shocked enough parents, though it does get her to raise her brows and her smile brighten immediately.]
I am well and eager to see you again. [It isn't a lie. If anything Lúthien is determined.] I apologize if I've inconvenienced you today. I thought we could continue-- if you could tell me more. [Even if she should continue on, it's clearly stayed. In part for him and in part for who he is-- the very thing he called out.]

I would pity him if not for some of his actions. (Thingol is not beloved by him or his brothers. But that is not something he holds against her. Perhaps he is more softened by her beauty - her charm - than he thought. Maedhros takes a long drink from his cup of wine, eyes never leaving her face.)
I think we would progress much further if you were truthful with me. What is it you seek? Why does the Forge interest you so? (He had trained at Fëanor's side and while he is not nearly as skilled as his father or his brother, Curufin, he knows the work well.)

So when he questions her, she simply stands a little straighter. She owes him the truth.]
I need to learn of the Silmarils. [While Beren has traveled in persuit of the task her father gave her, she would do what she must to help him.] Anything you could tell me would be of great help.
[If there was anything they did not say in the stories she's heard before. If there's some hope for more, for others.]

Setting down his cup, he crosses his arms over his chest.)
For what purpose? If I know you possess even one of them, you know what will become of you, lady. I suggest you forget them and quickly.
(True worry surfaces in his eyes as he watches her.)
You are young and they have not tainted you yet.

No, I have none. But someone dear to me may be in peril, because he was forced to find one. I've come to you in any hopes of knowledge I could gain. I must aid them, and you are my only true hope. [Her eyes meet his, round and filled with emotion. She pleads for something from him, anything for a sign that he could help her. She may have confirmed his thoughts on her, but he is the only person in all of existence who she has truly needed in a moment of despair. Neither her own magic, determination, nor her bravery can keep Beren from Morgoth. In this moment Maedhros holds her future and her hope in his hands.]

Cisco Ramon || The Flash
you call and i answer
It's probably four am late and he hasn't seen a bed for over a week. He's been sleeping at the lab, on and off in the spare room and sometimes just on the desk in front of him. It's only a week or so until the accelerator is turned on and he needs this to go off without a hitch. So he's running through every scenario, every equation, checking it thrice to makes sure the math adds up.
He's never been this tired. ]

But he's very aware that his feelings for Dr. Wells are anything but familial. It's something he's been able to push to the back of his mind with all the work he's had to do lately, but with the launch looming so close, he wonders what he'll do afterward. STAR Labs is the best job he's ever had, and he would hate to leave it just because of some stupid feelings.
It's thoughts like that that he loses sleep over. So when he rolls over to check his phone and sees it's 4 in the morning, he can't say he's surprised. Cisco sighs, sliding out of bed and tugging on a sweatshirt as he steps into his shoes. If he can't sleep, he might as well be productive.
As he pulls into the parking lot of the lab, he sighs when he sees the lights are on. Dr. Wells must be burning the midnight oil. Again. The man is going to drop dead if he keeps working himself like this.
He pulls out his phone as he steps into the elevator, dialing the number to the local Chinese place- he's never been more grateful for Golden Palace's 24 hour schedule- and ordering a crapload of food. He doubts Dr. Wells has eaten in the past twelve hours, and greasy takeout is better than nothing.
The elevator doors slide open on the most well-used floor of the lab, and Cisco makes sure to step loudly as he approaches the Cortex. He doesn't want to give his mentor a heart attack on top of his exhaustion.]
Did you even go home last night?
[The engineer doesn't even sound hopeful. He knows Dr. Wells too well for that.]
no subject
He was used to Doctor Snow coming in around seven with a coffee and her hair up, and by eight she'd be talkative and ready for the day. Ronnie wouldn't come in until much later. Cisco would usually come in around that time, too, looking like he had just rolled out of bed, but mind as sharp as ever. STAR labs always seemed to be buzzing when they were around.
He checks the time again and then tosses Cisco a quick glance. ]
It's still night, so to speak. So no, I haven't left. [ He rubs his eyes, trying to get the stress to go away but it doesn't seem to be working. Eye strain is a nasty thing in this body. ]
Is there something wrong? It's early, even for Caitlin.
no subject
[It's a gentle tease, one he knows won't get him into too much trouble as he tugs off his sweatshirt. He gives a little shrug in response to his question, dropping into the closest chair.]
Just couldn't sleep. Thought I could make myself useful here.
no subject
Wells stifles another yawn, using the back of his hand to save some face. He doesn't look over at him when he sits down, but he does regard his presence with a slight angling of his head. ]
It's easy for me to understand why I haven't been sleeping, but I don't understand what's keeping you up.
[ He begins tinkering with the device in front of him, connecting some wires together and watching a literal light flicker on for a second. Hm. ]
no subject
Both figuratively and literally.]
I ordered Chinese food, by the way. Since I know you didn't eat lunch yesterday, and I'm pretty sure you didn't stop to eat dinner either.
[Topic change. It's the best course of action, really. Keep the focus on Dr. Wells and away from why Cisco couldn't sleep.]
