BAD END MEME Sometimes you want a fix-it AU. You want everyone to live, to be happy, to find love, so on and so forth. You want the bad guy to lose early, for victory and triumph. Those are great things. Those are happy things. But sometimes terrible things happen to good people and you want to get catharsis through making some characters suffer. We understand. We really do. Sometimes no one wins. Sometimes the villain wins. Sometimes even if the heroes win everything is for naught. Sometimes, things just don't end happily. • Top level your character. Include any details you might think are relevant. Or don't. As always, we're not the cops. • Reply to other people's top levels! • Have fun!

( hello!! i just didn't want to assume anything before writing a starter, so if you're interested, what sort of bad end would you like? off the top of my head, what comes to mind is the chimera ant arc and what happened to palm happening to gon and/or killua, but i can tend toward something slightly less traumatizing too, like gon not fully recovering during the hunter chairman arc. if you don't mind canon divergences, we could also do a thread where gon/killua and company end up in the dark continent for so-and-so reason, likely ending in alluka getting separated from them and the two of them getting stuck there indefinitely. let me know what you think/if you'd prefer something else entirely! )

This time, the final staging ground was a hedge witch safe house, the bowels of a warehouse in Nowhere, Appalachia. It had always been a little desolate, a little grim. In minutes, the scene had turned grisly. In another minute, it'd be nothing but a graveyard.

Eliot held on tight to Margo's hand as they moved, fast as their legs could carry them, along the row of storage rooms. There was no point in trying to be quiet, even if they were out of sight: the Beast had more senses than they knew. What mattered now was speed. If they could get to the room with the portal and pry it open, slam it shut behind them, maybe they could buy themselves some more time.

Now wasn't the time to think about the fact that even if they made it out, it'd be just the two of them. They were the last ones standing.

The building shook, concrete dust trailing from the ceiling, the rumble of rattled aluminum turning into a roar. Eliot put a hand on Margo's back and urged her forward, hoping to get her to the room first despite her shorter legs.

[Scorpius had long learned never to expect praise for his accomplishments, at least not from those outside his family, but a little gratitude for saving a man's life couldn't be terribly out of place, could it?

He'd been sent out delivering "important files" again, like he was a ruddy owl. He knew full-well his boss was just harassing some poor woman in the Foreign Affairs department, and he'd get the brunt of her ire for passing on his notes, so he took his sweet time getting there. This left him in the right place at the right time for a minor but desperate criminal to try and escape his auror escort to his trial.

The man had stolen a wand and it didn't take much to deduce that he was frantic enough to try near anything. The other bystanders were frozen in shock and fear, the wandless auror had no defense, and Scorpius seized the opportunity.

He'd cast a spell of his own creation, a shield that worked rather like a bubble, around the escaped man. It was actually something he'd been trying to work out how to fix, but as it was, the shield did not allow spells in or out. As soon as the man tried to cast a spell, it had rebounded straight back at him, knocking him out. Scorpius lowered the shield at that point, and the man was immediately put back in custody.

And then all eyes had turned to him. He knew there were people who would take any opportunity to reprimand him and deny him any recognition because of his family's name, but what issue could they possibly have with what he'd just done?

Many, if the man barking at him that he shouldn't have interfered is any indication.]

Which really, became more and more of an understatement to Noctis as the time passed. As Bahamut’s words swirled around in his mind with nothing but time to haunt him. And as he replayed every moment in his life that lead him to this — that led Prompto to this....

Only one made from the Darkness and loved by the King of Light can bring the balance of both back to the world.

And he had known &mdash damn well known &mdash the instant the words were spoken. It was Prompto. Prompto tagged and marked as one of them, but Prompto who he had loved with every fiber of his being. And gods how Noctis hates himself for it, for letting Prompto in, under his skin and doing nothing but damning him in the end.

There had always been a thought, this sort of little nagging voice as Noctis learned of their world, of the Starscourge that plagued them, as he watched his father fail and age under the magic of the Lucis Line, that being King meant sacrifice in ways he could never hope to come to terms with. He had just always assumed it would be his sacrifice to bear and his alone.

It’s harder still when he finds himself suddenly back on Eos. The world bathed in darkness and daemons at every turn. Three years gone and the world in tatters, and he barely remembers getting to Hammerhead, barely remembers anything the moment he sees his friends, his throat going dry as his eyes fall on Prompto. It scares him in that moment, how much he thinks about letting the world burn just to keep this one part of it alive. But Noctis knows that’s not his choice.

Stalling is easy. He can’t do it forever though and soon enough he finds himself alone with Prompto. The caravan feels smaller than he remembers, though he knows that’s just the weight of what he needs to say. His hands curl, tighten against the edge of the counter until he releases them and turns to look at Prompto. How the hell was he supposed to do this. His lips press together his head hangs and when he speaks, his voice cracks, wavers. )
