Marriage for love is a such a modern concept. In the past, marriage was
recognised as a social contract. Unions were entered into for many
reasons: to obtain property, to unite families, to carry on a bloodline,
et cetera. Whatever the reason, congratulations, you're getting married!

HOW IT WORKS:

POSSIBLE REASONS FOR MARRIAGE:
① Station → You come from a royal, noble, or otherwise distinguished family who has chosen a suitable spouse for you.
② Feud → You are being married to put an end to the bitter enmity between your two families.
③ Economics → Your economic state and/or your station will improve through the union, though one of you may be marrying down.
④ Empire → You and your spouse are merging your businesses and/or property to create something more influential or profitable.
⑤ Tribute → You have been offered as a gift or appeasement, alternately you're the spoils of war.
⑥ Bloodline → Carrying on your distinguished family name has fallen to you and the equally well-bred spouse of your family's selection.
⑦ Disapproval → Your marriage has been arranged to keep you away from the person with whom you truly wish to be.

POSSIBLE SCENARIOS:
① First meeting → This is the very first time you're meeting your future spouse.
② Courtship → To get to know each other and encourage affection, your family has approved of you going on dates.
③ Engagement party → Be it a huge, formal affair or a small, intimate get together, you're celebrating (or pretending).

Jyn Erso was a fighter through and through. She'd been born fighting, and hadn't stopped in all the twenty-two years of her life. But there came a time in which fighting would do no good, and she'd eventually have to acquiesce 'for the good of the Empire'. How was the budding engineer to know that when the time came, she'd find herself agreeing to marry a man - an officer - that she had never even met before?

"You do want your father to be able to continue his oh-so-important research, don't you Jyn?", Director Orson Krennic asked, the smooth lilting of his voice causing a shiver to run the length of her spine.

"Of course, Uncle", she answered, forcing the words through gritted teeth.

"And we would, of course, like you to keep a close eye on your new husband. You can never be too careful ... "

So. Without ever meeting her fiance - Joreth Sward - and without ever exchanging a word, Jyn found herself marrying the man at first sight. At least he wasn't old, which was a distinct worry. At least he looked ... kind enough. She wasn't sure - the man was practically unreadable, as stoic and stone-faced as she'd ever seen. At the very least ... he was handsome. That was as good a starting point as any, she idly thought, exchanging vows that seemed hollow and impersonal, sliding rings onto each other's fingers, offering fleeting smiles as if to prove that this was exactly what they wanted, that this wasn't all some sort of political machinations rather than what it was supposed to be.

Jyn always had wanted to marry for love. Maybe she was naive to believe that she'd ever get the chance.

When all was said and done, and they were afforded time to settle into their new home, Jyn found the silence almost unbearable. Perhaps worst of all, the silence made it easy to get lost in her own thoughts and worries, and the last thing that she wanted was to get stuck in a neverending loop of feeling ...

Like she just wasn't ready for any of this.

[ Given the fact that Chika is the youngest daughter of a family who owns a small seaside ryokan, and Riko the youngest daughter of a powerful banking family who happens to own said small seaside ryokan, when Chika's family could no longer pay the loan on their property, and wanting to keep the historic retreat in the family, they did what they had to do.

A marriage to connect the two families. It was the only way.

Chika herself still didn't quite know what to say about it. Even here at their engagement party, she's dressed in the prettiest dress she's ever even seen before, but when she noticed Riko was no where to be found she headed to the hotel's courtyard, after asking someone if they had seen her. ]

Riko? I heard you were out here... I thought maybe we should... talk, you know? [ It's dark and quiet, her voice travelling through the dimly lit path of greenery outside, her heels clicking as she steps from rock to rock. ]

[King OOO was a powerful conquer. Several planets had fallen to his might. Everything had sort of turned into a familiar routine. They arrived at a new planet, spent some time there until they gave up and then moved on to the next. Ankh felt bored by it all, war turning dull as nothing new happened.

Not until they reached one planet that held a powerful protector. It made things more exciting for sure, a change in the routine he had gotten so used to. And hey, this time it even ended differently. In order to stop the fighting and the destruction a deal had been made. They got their champion in exchange of leaving them alone. OOO agreed to it. Even claimed that a wedding would be the proper way to finalise the deal. Logical he guessed.

Getting to know that he would be the one married to the man however had him protesting loudly. Him? Married? What a joke. Still his protest got shot down by the argument that as the next in line for the throne it was the only logical option. Ankh felt far from pleased, but could not argue the point further. All he really could do was to go where he was supposed to pick up the man.]
