Being on the run is one of the hardest things he's ever done.

Not because he has to hide or make himself as unnoticeable as possible; that's actually far more simple than he'd imagined, once he'd found the right type of clothing, gotten shoes, and discovered that he could wind his tail around himself then cover it up with layers or too long shirts and jackets. No, the hardest part is ... the stealing.

For the past fifteen minutes, Kurt has pretended to browse through the same three aisles, hands shoved deep into his pockets, most of his face hidden beneath the hood of an over-sized coat. Really, all he has to do is grab the item and go - no one is paying any attention and even if they were, he would be able to disappear before anyone could catch him.

Inhaling deep to steel his nerves, he rounds the edge of some shelving and starts back toward the produce, frantic golden eyes darting from left to right, focusing on the stacks of apples. He comes closer and as he does, he swallows hard, slides one hand from his jacket and reaches out, shutting his eyes tightly to avoid thinking about the fact he's going to take something that isn't his.
