[Everyone is dancing at this party. And Lydia's no exception even if Jackson is an adorably hilarious dancer.]

[He blames the alcohol of course, and the fact that he's not actually trying. It's all incredibly silly, but that's the nature of Halloween. Especially when the party is already dwindling and Jackson is staying to the end because it's Lydia's house and, well, boyfriend benefits. So he just continues to dance ridiculously, making sure it's on his face that he knows it's a joke.]

[The booze is definitely flowing and making her dance a lot more loosely than she'd normal do. People are trickling out but the party was a great success so her mood is elevated. And she laughs, starts copying his moves even if they are completely ridiculous.]

[It's been way too long since he's laughed like this, but he does laugh. He laughs as he shakes his head and wraps his arms around her, pressing their foreheads together.]

You look like a total dufus.

You look like a dufus. [She retorts back with a tiny slur. She's so witty, right?] And everyone's leaving. [She pouts a little, her hands sliding up his arms, coming to rest on his shoulders.]

[Look, Leon's never seen a turtle that big before. And now he's sort of staring at it bewildered, then back at Merlin]

[What are you asking him for??? SHRUG.]

It's for something?

What sort of peace offering is it? [He's still confused, okay? Why would the kingdom of [INSERT RANDOM KINGDOM HERE] send such a gift.]

Perhaps it is some sort of rare... turtle.

[Wow you are lazy.]

I don't know. Arthur ordered me to clean it; I don't really see the point. It can't really look any better, can it?

To clean it? [With what? He's fairly sure the stench will not go away. IT'S A DAMN TURTLE.] Where will he keep it?

I have no idea. But he said he "doesn't have a choice but to keep it" and yelled at me for daring to call it horrible. Which is completely true.

[He snorts.]

I know he thinks so too, because he was trying hard not to laugh. It was ridiculous.

[His lips quirk a little, trying not to laugh at first before he does.] It is one of the most interesting gifts he has received, I imagine.

[Yes, good, don't resist. He'll laugh too, mostly through his nose.]

I don't think anything will be able to top it. Maybe they were trying to pull his leg.

Perhaps it is a magic turtle, Merlin. If you kiss it it turns into a princess. [His eyebrows perk, his smile teasing, completely.]

[Oh no, he bursts out in loud laughter at that and has to lean against the turtle to keep himself upright. Oh, dear god--]

Basically, Lavi thinks Allen's been seeming down lately, and that won't do. And what's the easiest way to cheer an Allen up? Making him a treat. He even went through the effort of making it entirely himself, with Jerry watching like a hawk to make sure he didn't ruin everything in the kitchen.

And now, he's got a jar of cookies in his hands and is knocking on Allen's door.]

[Truth be told, Aya's seen a lot of crazy shit in his time. One could say it came with the job. Genetically mutated monsters, psychopaths, murders sick enough to make a man's stomach turn. You name it, he's probably come across some variation.

But none of that had prepared him for this

Whatever...the hell...this was.

Aya stared. He was one for silence but rarely was he shocked into speechlessness- or staring with his mouth hanging open while his mind screeched to a halt.]

[It's definitely not new to John that when Sherlock is investigating, he goes wherever he feels the need to with no real regard for whether or not he really can or anything like it. And if someone comes in he has this ridiculous ability of getting them to leave no matter why they're there. Most often, it goes pretty quickly too.

John often apologises for it because Sherlock doesn't go about it in nice ways. This time, he ends up staring at the closed door and it only takes a few moments for Sherlock to tell him to follow her and see if she knows something.

That doesn't usually happen, but Sherlock doesn't give him a chance to question it. So he follows this (beautiful) complete stranger to figure out if she knows something about a murder. Because that is what people want to talk about, Sherlock. Jesus Christ.]

[Oh, John; Sherlock is clearly right (isn't he always?) about going to her for information. In fact, she knows far more about the handful of mysterious deaths than she likes to admit, even to herself (granted, they all took place around the Wertham area). However, getting Alisha to talk openly about any murder will prove to be quite the feat. After all... even if they're looking for a culprit who has no connection to her, her fellow ASBO misfits, or that freak storm, there's always the possibility of accidentally saying too much or introducing the men to Wertham's newest, best kept secrets.

Alisha's pace is brisk, and though she makes it a point to look over her shoulder, looking to see who exited behind her, she doesn't stop. As far as she's concerned, there are enough weird folk around the area as it is; she doesn't quite want to deal with "tourists" on top of it.]

[John does decide, while he gains on her, that Sherlock ought to have a reason for it, and considering the pace she's moving in he had a reason for not explaining too even if he would surely have enjoyed saying how he deduced it. And it hits him that it's probably best to be as casual as possible, and so not saying anything might be a little... odd.

Maybe it's a little late to realise it, but. Ah well.]

E-excuse me, miss.

[Something tells her that even if she continues down the street, he'd continue to follow. Some guys are just hard to shake. She rolls her eyes and takes a deep breath, turning around and finally stopping.]

...Are you talking to me?

[Oh, god, and he's supposed to be the one who knows how to interact with the normal person. But he has a feeling that she is not quite like any other woman, and he doesn't fully know what it is that makes him think so but if he had Sherlock's deduction skills...

As it is, he can't really put in the effort to look at her and try to deduce something because he needs to think of a way to approach her about a murder. Bloody hell.

He slows to a stop at just enough distance that he's hopefully not intruding on a personal bubble thing.]

Yes, uhm. I'm sorry if I'm bothering you, my... friend just wouldn't stop nagging me.

[The (passably) honest route is often a rather good one.]

[Giving her a bit of space is a good thing... for both of them. Let's just say that physical contact, no matter how innocent, isn't the best of ideas.]

Right. Like I haven't heard that one before. [Others have used that excuse to try and hit on her; sadly, she thinks John is doing the same.]

[Welp.

Of course she would be a no-nonsense kind of person. Just his luck; he was hoping to be able to sneak things in more smoothly. But she would probably catch onto it either way.]

I take it I'm not going to get anywhere by beating around the bush?

[Though she's being blunt, there's the slightest hint of amusement in her voice; she has no true idea what he's came after her for, though she assumes it's something more on the positive side.]

[You don't see those around much these days... and if they are indeed investigating a murder that happened due to someone's storm-induced powers, that's definitely cause for concern. Word gets out about people having powers, someone eventually figures out the ASBO shitheads have them too, and it won't be long until people put together why the two probation workers in charge have disappeared.]

And there are murders out here all the time; it's not exactly the safest city. Probably just another bloke gone mental... that happens more often than people think.

Oh, I know. Trust me, I know. I'm not a detective, but Sherlock calls himself a consulting detective, and I just happen to tag along.

[He takes a slow breath.]

This one happens to be unlike anything he's ever seen, [and he's absolutely giddy about it,] so I guess he turns to the people if it seems like an efficient plan.

[Oh boy... if at least one of them is a serious detective, she better keep on her toes.]

So... wot does he want to know from me? I don't exactly specialize in being some sort of murder informative.

[John can't even really answer that, so he just pulls his shoulders up and shrugs with arms and all, his expression almost troubled. Did Sherlock count on it not being very easy? He should have.]

I don't know. I only know that he saw something in you that makes him think you can help us.

Can't help you if I don't know who you're investigating, now can I? If you're not allowed to give names, at least say how the poor sap died.

Well... He's been... frozen. But Sherlock concludes that there's no possible way he could have been stuffed in a freezer first. Something about distance and no one having dragged him anywhere. He was just frozen on the spot and died.

[And it sure as hell isn't that cold. It's not even below zero.]

[ Sloan's glasses are perched on her nose, tipped down just enough that she can look through them without having to tilt her head down too much. She's been quiet for a while. One could even say studious, which is a word that has applied well to Sloan in general for much of her young adult and adult life. ]

Okay, [ she says slowly, finally. She doesn't look up at Arthur, but her eyebrows pinch momentarily. She falls quiet again, and another two seconds tick by. ] Okay. [ She holds up the rectangles of colour samples, and now she looks up, squinting her eyes over the tops of her glasses like she's trying to focus on something just out of her range of sight. ] These are all grey, right?

[ Arthur's opting for studious. He's a big favor of studious — he's perfectly studious in his own right, searching through his own pack of samples for the card that had buttercream on it to compare it against ivory. Arthur's got a fine-point sharpie and a small pad of post-its poised and ready to go, occasionally pausing to scribble or cross out whatever colors aren't or are making the cut. ]

They're different shades of grey, [ he corrects, barely pausing as he scribbles down another contender. Yes, they are all grey, but the last time Arthur didn't pay attention to which shade the trim in his bathroom was he'd had a fucking conniption a week later and renovated the whole apartment, an occasion that had absolutely nothing to do with how he had already run out of things to do two days into his 'vacation time'. Something about dropping property values didn't quite sit right with him anyway.

A beat later and, without a hint of dryness, he adds: ] I like Seachange.

[ Sloan has to flip all of the cards over and read through them one at a time in order to figure out which one is Seachange. And then she flips them back over and stares at this so-called Seachange in the hopes of figuring out what the person who named it must have been seeing that she isn't.

The thing is: Sloan likes pretty things. She likes Gucci and Balenciaga. She likes sleekly-made high heels. She likes the idea of a home that's been well thought-out, where each furniture choice has been carefully made, even if too much use of the word "curated" makes her want to through things. If asked, she might even admit that this predisposition for well-made, pretty things is part of why she keeps Arthur around. Because damn

But the thing is that she doesn't really know a lot about it in the end. She can name a few designers she likes because that's practical. But in between being able to quote where the Dow last closed at at any given point in time and being able to recite and analyze the causes of every financial crisis and almost-crisis in the last five hundred years, there wasn't a room for a whole lot more. "Human knowledge," Kenzie called it. ]

It's pretty, [ she confirms, because it is. Then she looks up and narrows her eyes at him. ] Are you sure this a decision you want my help with?
