APOCALYPSE MEME The end of the world is here. Are you ready or are you going to kick the bucket? Maybe you've been prepared for the apocalypse for ages or you're blissfully unaware. You can play it straight or for comedy (think Shaun of the Dead), but please be aware that there's likely to be triggering content within!

TIMELINE 1. BEGINNING Things have only just begun. Can you get ahead of the problem or are things just going to go to shit? 2. MIDDLE Things HAVE gone to shit. You're right in the middle of things and there's no end in sight. You have to do your best just to get to tomorrow. 3. END Things are finally winding down (or amping up getting ready to wind down). You're in preparations for the final battle, you're killing off the last few zombies, you're living your life. 4. REBUILD/DESPAIR Things are OVER. Either you won or you lost, time to rebuild or go down in your bunker and cry. Hold onto your asses, folks. SCENARIOS 1. MONSTERS/KAIJU Think Godzilla or Pacific Rim. There are monsters, huge ones, and you gotta go through some shit to keep them from killing everything and busting up that last Dunkin Donuts you go to every Thursday with the cute girl working the counter. This is an outrage!! 2. ZOMBIES You know the drill. Whether fast or slow, virus or reanimated, airborne or fluid-borne, biting or eating: your favorite thing, zombies. Remember to aim for the head. 3. ALIENS Visitors from space! ... Except they're killing all of you! Does anyone you know have a cold? Send them to the front lines. 4. WAR Everything's gone to hell. It's going to become a nuclear winter out there if someone doesn't stop the tide of this war. History won't be written by the victors because there won't BE any. 5. "UTOPIA" Everyone is happy, right? Things are so much better now that we don't have any emotions, right? When we started culling populations to keep enough supplies for everyone, right? 6. ROBOTS YOU DID THIS TO YOURSELVES. YIKES. Skynet is a thing, everything is terrible, you're gonna get owned by a Reaper, whatever. Take 'em out, cowboy. 7. DISEASE You're not turning into rabid monsters, but people are dying off at alarming rates. What's causing it? Is there a cure? Is anyone immune? Figure it out, boyo. 8. MISC Anything left over!! Killer tomatoes? World taken over by talking dogs in exoskeletons? Whatever man, we're not the cops. Have fun. As always, these are just suggestions. Make up anything you want, as long as you're having fun!

[Even though chaos mostly kept himself holed away in Rennes-le-Château to protect the things and person that lay there, it wasn't like he was a complete and total shut-in. He did come out whenever he could, whenever he thought it was safe to do so, so he hadn't missed any of the news reports, and he had seen plenty of victims first-hand of the quickly reproducing, highly lethal disease that was sweeping the world.

For better or worse, this wasn't the first major plague that chaos had seen or been involved in, but it made him feel especially useless and frantic when, even with his powers, he couldn't save the few people he came across (though he still managed to help a couple, just not everyone), and nor could he determine specifically what was causing it or what the cure was.

It seemed to be some kind of hemorrhagic disease that affected the lungs, considering how quickly people coughed up blood, but that was all he knew. It wasn't like he was affected by the air, by food, or by the temperature. Not that he couldn't feel cold air or taste delicious food, but they couldn't kill him. Disease didn't affect him like it did Humans.

Still, despite his ignorance and the fact that he still had to guard Rennes-le-Château, he came out as often as he could and to as many different places as he could to help people gather food, help them with their illness, if he could, and direct them to any safe spots he knew about.

Normally, he just encountered normal Humans. But..not today. Today, somewhere, on one of his quick little outings to help people, he saw and sensed someone that was not Human. Someone that was neither fish, flesh, nor good red herring, for better or worse. Someone that, as far as he knew, shouldn't exist, and that fact chilled him and put him on guard.]

..Pardon my asking, but who and what are you? You aren't a Human, as far as I can tell.

There's no reason to stay in Ferelden with the family farm in shambles and the ashes of the family spread over the earth that sustained them. Their ghosts push Maggie first toward a village called Haven and then--as the journey is a long one, especially on foot--to the fortress up in the Frostbacks, the one Andraste's herald has taken for her base. From there, at least, she can do something with this grief. A tear in the fabric of the world destroyed the life she'd led, and if the Herald had been just a little quicker in coming to their part of the country...

It doesn't help to think of what could have been. The best thing she can do at this point is save somebody else from walking away from burnt timber and scorched stones. So she travels west, and eventually south, and further west. Picking her way through the mountains is ugly work at this time of year, and she ends up taking a circuitous route to an Orlesian road slightly less treacherous than the eastern options closer to her destination.

But that, too, has its dangers, chief among them a rift that just opened up or was missed before this or--it doesn't matter what happened, but the sickly green glow is all too familiar, and so are the twisted bodies of the demons crawling out from it. And worst of all, there's some kind of traveling group, better outfitted than just about anyone she's seen on the roads lately but in danger nonetheless.

She's pulling her bow off her back and hauling out an arrow as she calls to the first woman she sees. "We gotta get out of here! Fighting them's not worth it."

Eight days ago, the world fell apart.

Adam spent most of that time holed up in Monmouth Manufacturing, praying to a god he didn't believe in that his friends would turn up. Whole. Healthy. Alive.

They didn't, and with every passing day, Adam felt his sanity fray, despair cracking at the edges as he faced the possible loss of everyone he'd ever cared about. Gansey, he told himself, would have gotten away. Probably in a helicopter. He would have come back here and found Ronan and grabbed Blue and they were all somewhere in some absurdly upper-class bunker somewhere. The thought that Gansey hadn't come back to look for him was gut-wrenching, but it was so much better than the reality that if Gansey was alive, there was no way he wouldn't have come back for Adam.

Adam's food was running low, but the creatures were still out there, and no one had come. Perhaps they were just waiting for the right opportunity.

Adam clutched at his head, roiling with self-loathing and despair. There was no where else to go. If any of the others survived, they would have come here.

A rattling downstairs alerted him that someone had knocked over the stack of empty cans he'd put behind the barricaded stairway door.

Heart in his throat, Adam snatched up a saucepan in one hand and a boxcutter in the other, the nearest things he had to real weapons. He'd hoped that the empty lower floor and the abandoned look of the former factory would have been enough to dissuade any of the creatures from investigating. Something was here. Human or monster, he wasn't sure.
