the prince & princess trope meme
DIRECTIONS:
oo1. comment with your muse & add preferences in the subject
oo2. use RGN to get your prompt (1-20)
oo3. tag around and have fun!
oo4. don't forget to avoid those dragons. unless you like dragons.
oo1. Badass Princess ♛ She is no ordinary princess—she wouldn’t be interesting if she was, now would she? No, this girl does not need a knight to save her, not when she can often use a sword better than he. But what happens when she gets in over her head?
oo2. The Wise Prince ♛ Often, this prince isn’t the sweet and charming one you see running around the woods hunting deer and the like. Nope, he’s stuck in meetings and taking care of paperwork, ensuring his people are happy. Can someone convince him to take a break?
oo3. Daddy’s Little Villain ♛ This is new. A beautiful as she might be, beware: this girl is just like her evil sorcerer uncle or father, and is twice as crafty. Girls can’t be evil villains, after all, so that means she has something to prove. Good luck!
oo4. Prince Charmless ♛ He was supposed to be kind and honorable, brave and generous, but it turns out that he is the exact opposite of all your dreams. Demanding or cold, a total jerk, or just an annoying pain in the butt, he is no royal ideal.
oo5. Fallen Princess ♛ It might not have been her fault, or it might have been. Either way, this princess no longer holds a royal status, and is living amongst commoners. Is it a secret? Is she a princess in hiding? Or is she just biding her time?
oo6. The Evil Prince ♛ Such a lovely smile! But watch out for those sneaky eyes. A prince doesn’t have to be a wonderful example of humanity. Sometimes, he wants what everyone else does: more money, more land, more power, but he can get it with some planning.
oo7. Princess Classic ♛ Think Disney: she is the epitome of perfection, beautiful and always kind, more than willing to be a merciful ruler, and always under some pesky spell that denies her one true love for a while. But is it so great living up to such expectations?
oo8. The Warrior Prince ♛ Forget about castles and rolling hills with trouble brewing outside of the kingdom. Determined and honorable or jaded and cold, this kind of prince knows what the battlefield is like. But can he learn to relax or handle a peaceful meeting well?
oo9. Princess In Rags ♛ Cinderella knows exactly what this means. Like a fallen princess, she has been forcibly stripped of her wealth, title, and decent clothing. However, she doesn’t let that put her down. Good times will come back to her, but how?
o10. The Rebel Prince ♛ Maybe he doesn’t want to rule. Maybe he wants to go out and kill that dragon, or maybe he has left a princess at the altar. This prince has a rebellious streak and nothing can stop him from his goals. But where will his hotheadedness take him?
o11. Spoiled Brat ♛ She is totally not a princess, not the kind we like to think of anyways. Rude and demanding, she never thinks of anyone but herself, or if she does, then it’s always for some other selfish reason. Can someone teach her a lesson?
o12. The Changeling ♛ It’s a hard thing to do, but sometimes the royal heir has to be hidden away for his own safety. But there is always something that makes them stick out. Be it a birthmark or their own natural talents, how does he discover his true lineage?
o13. Well, Excuse Me, Princess! ♛ What is her problem? This guy has bent over backwards for her, and all he wants in return is a little credit or maybe an appreciative kiss on the cheek. But maybe she does like him, or there is some pesky princess protocol stopping her.
o14. The Cursed Prince ♛ It’s not just princesses who get placed under curses. Guys do too! But what horror has befallen our beloved prince? Is he ugly? Can he not speak? Is he now some horrible beast? Or is he under a sleeping spell waiting true love’s first kiss?
o15. Winter Royal Lady ♛ A princess is one thing, but a Queen of Winter is another. It’s a step up, and for another, whatever season or entity you choose to be the sole ruler of, you can bet it gives you a lot more credit and power too. Don’t let it get to your head!
o16. The Dethroned Prince ♛ He’s brooding and angry, and maybe he deserved to be dethroned. Then again, he could be the dashing prince who has to run from the law because it’s turned against him and the people, doing his best to bring back true justice to the land!
o17. Girl In The Tower ♛ It’s one of the most classic tropes, a princess stuck in a tower guarded by magic spells or dragons. Sometimes it’s for her own safety, or because of a curse, or because someone wants to use her. Can you free her? Or does she even want freedom?
o18. The Sheltered Prince ♛ He doesn’t know a thing about life outside of the palace, and that isn’t quite his fault. At least he wants to learn about the outside world and improve himself, right? Have some patience and show him around. This prince could surprise you!
o19. Fairytale Ending ♛ It is the goal of every fairytale we have come to know, and the goal of most stories. Who doesn’t like a happy ending? The trick is, though, how to get to it. What trials will you go through? What is your happily ever after anyways?
o20. Roll Again ♛ Looks like you get to decide your own fate by picking your own adventure, or leaving it up to chance again!

"Check anyway," came the reply, "don't want to miss anything."
A few minutes later, a long woman entered the hallway, checking each room to see if she really had heard something.
no subject
Ruby dived towards a closet, pulling herself and Zelda close to the corner of the room, hoping the various clothes still hanging would hide them well enough that the guard wouldn't spot them.
no subject
Thankfully, it didn't come to that. For long minutes the Gerudo woman checked each room, and it felt like she had paused at the one where they were hiding for a suspiciously long time. But eventually, they heard her footsteps backing up and fading as she left.

It seemed the Gerudo had indeed left the corridor for now, and when Zelda climbed out she breathed a sigh of relief. She titled her head to the left, pointing the way to the nearest exit. Hopefully, it wouldn't be long now.
no subject
Ruby took the lead, taking Zelda's hand and leading her to the exit.
no subject
"We have to make a choice here," she reminded Ruby. "Do we try the stables or the moat?"
She would prefer the stables, considering the things they were carrying, but she knew the decision might be out of her hands.
no subject
"The stables. That's where they said we should go..."
no subject
"Let's go!"
no subject

"Ruby," Impa nodded to her sharply. "Just in time, someone lamed one of the horses. You have the princess?" Only someone who knew the intimidating Sheikah would recognize the last sentence for a question-or hear the concern underneath her sharp tone.
no subject
"Yes, I have her." Ruby replied, regarding Impa with respect. "It was rough, but we made it here."
It was a good thing they DIDN'T go to the moat.
no subject
Her red eyes glanced behind Ruby, where Zelda could be seen hanging at the stable door. "Foolish, girl, you could have been seen."
"But I-"
"Not the time, child." Impa turned back to Ruby. "We ride south for now; our priority is getting the princess away from here as soon as possible. Understood?"
no subject
She turned to the princess and smiled at her. "Don't worry, we'll make sure you get to safety, okay?"
no subject
Impa bent down beside her charge. "If we have the chance, we'll manage it. Now we need to escape, Zelda."
The princess nodded agitatedly, but still turned to Ruby. "I know you will, Ruby. I trust you."
no subject
Ruby smiled proudly before she went to adjust the cloak still on Zelda's person, making sure the hood was covering her head.
"Unless Impa decides otherwise, you can ride with me." she said, moving to one of the horses and getting on, beckoning the princess to join her.
no subject
Her red eyes, always stern, bore into Ruby. "Be on your guard until then. The Woods is no place for laxness."
Zelda looked first at Impa, then at Ruby. "Is it time to go, now?"
"I'm afraid so, Princess." Impa picked up her charge, placing her on the horse meant for Ruby. "Be brave. Ruby," she turned back, "Trust your instincts, but remember: this is Hyrule's future you are entrusted with."
no subject
Ruby waited until Impa made her move before Ruby got the horse to move, heading for the Lost Woods. This was going to be the biggest mission she ever dealt with.

They galloped down the path from the castle to the town's main square, and beyond it to the gate. Zelda gripped her rescued treasures in her hands, reaching down to hold the Ocarina of Time. Only slightly behind them, Impa guarded their backs.
And they needed it; behind them they could hear more hooves than could possibly belong to Impa's horse.
There was only one explanation: the enemy was following, and it was much closer than could be hoped.
no subject
She brought out and extended her scythe. If they got by Impa, she would have to fight them off and guard Zelda at the same time.
She'll have to do this - everything's riding on her.
no subject
She knew that hair and the man it had belonged to- this was Ganondorf, the King of the Gerudo, her father's false friend.
She had thought she had known what he was before, but with him now on their tail terror gripped her heart.
She turned back as the crossed the town's drawbridge, only to see something in the distance- a boy she recognized too well.
"That's him, Ruby. That's Link."
no subject
She got close to where Link was walking and brought the pole end of her scythe around.
"Grab hold!"
no subject
Zelda, perched on the front of the horse, had pulled the Ocarina from her bag. Twisting around was hard to do, but she kept trying, hoping to see what was going on behind her.
"Are you trying to bring Link on the horse?" How much weight could the hose take, she wondered. "Can we carry him?"
no subject
"I'm not sure. I think we should give him the Ocarina, don't you think?" she said. "At the very least, he'll keep it safe! You have that much faith in him, so...!"
no subject
She threw the ocarina back, praying that Link would find it. It was hard to see him in the dark, but she thought that he nodded in understanding.
The rest, she knew, was in Link's hands- and in the goddesses'.
She wound her hands into the horse's mane and held tight, hoping that Ruby could see them out.
