There was a certain irony to it all, when the heroic saviour became the one in a truly dire need of aid. It was even funnier, at least in retrospect, when the one able to offer that aid was exactly the one the hero was trying to save in the first place. A good heart did not always have the foresight, after all. Or maybe it was just terrible luck, on both their parts. They simply found themselves at the wrong place, in the wrong time, and one thing lead to the other before they knew it—

That one swipe of a blow (unlucky for Legolas, but very lucky for the daemon), left him dazed, even if it had but barely grazed him. The next one, following quickly after, would have had him meeting his end in a rather gruesome manner, no doubt, only it never came, and instead he was yanked by his middle away from the danger. But the creature's luck proved able to trump its opponents once more, in the following seconds. Flailing to catch its prey again, it managed to knock them right out of the leap. Or the wrap. Legolas wasn't so sure what exactly happened in those moments, until they hit the ground. Hard.

And it was at this moment he knew... that the smartest thing to do was to flee.

The stranger was knocked unconscious, but the daemon was distracted, not having noticed where it tossed them. It bought them — yes, them, as troublesome as it would be — some moments, enough for Legolas to grab the man and dart for cover and then further into the trees.

Dawn was a few hours away. In the shadows, more of those creatures lurked, and no place was truly safe. But at least this spot was good enough for the time being, and to try and wake up his company.

"You are not dead, please wake up," he patted one cheek lightly, whispering as he leaned over the prone form. His hood was up, which in the scarce light of the Moon and stars cast deep shadows on his face, but his hair and eyes were still bright, they still stood out against the darkness. "Unless you wish that fate on the both of us."
