Maybe you're part of one of those big paranormal research societies that have their own TV show, top of the line equipment, and merchandising contracts. Maybe you're an aspiring director who's noticed the boom of paranormal TV shows lately and decided to cash in the time is right for your art. Or maybe you and your friends just decided that messing around in someplace that's supposed to be haunted sounded like a fun way to spend an evening, especially when there may or may not be beer involved. Whatever the reason may be, you've decided to go

GHOST HUNTING



Choose your haunting, or let the RNG pick for you:

1. Setting Up: You're on location, and the locals have told you about the place's super creepy history and your location is definitely haunted. You just noticed that the clouds in the sky are forming an X over the location - just like the electrical tape X's you used to mark locations for your infrared cameras! - so you know you're going to get a lot of activity tonight. It's time to start unpacking your gear and encountering some ghosts.

2. YOU GUYS WHAT WAS THAT NOISE: There's no way that was just the building settling, and wind definitely doesn't make a sound like that! Clearly, something paranormal is afoot (a spooky, disembodied foot) here.

3. Era Cues: One of the best ways to draw out ghosts is through the use of stimuli from the era in which they died - so put on some oldschool jazz, light up a cigar, and start cooking some down-home southern cuisine. It's for science!

4. EVP Time: Your completely uncalibrated EMF detector just started spiking, and you may or may not have felt a cold breeze just now, so the spirits must be with you! Switch on that tape recorder and start asking them some questions, and maybe you'll be able to pick their responses out of the background noise (what is "pareidolia," anyway?)

5. Motion Detector Mayhem: The device you bought to make a horrific racket if anything moves is making a horrific racket, and what could possibly be moving in an empty, dark room where your teammates totally haven't been, except for a ghost? You haven't even seen any huge moths since you began this investigation, so it has to be something paranormal!

6. COME AT ME BRO: Provoking the ghosts is a really good idea. Shouting and posturing at the air like a tough guy makes you look cool, and it's always the best way to-- oh god, did something just scratch you?!

7. The Infrared Camera Just Caught Something: Or maybe it was the ultraviolet camera, or hell, maybe even the regular old visible light camera. Either way, it definitely wasn't one of your teammates sneaking off to take a leak or a smoke without telling anyone else like it was the last four times, because everyone is finally present and accounted for. Which leaves only one thing it could be...

8. That Object Just Moved!: Despite the fact that you finally wised up and placed the trigger object far away from anything that you could trip over or hit with your camera, it just fell over. And that piece of concrete that just landed next to your foot? It totally didn't come from the ceiling - it had to have been thrown by something.

9. Possession: Suddenly, one of your teammates can't quite seem to remember his last name, and is talking about how he'll "scuttle your legs" - or maybe he's talking about how this place fills him with demonic rage, or just acting dumber than usual. Either way, he's obviously been possessed by an entity!

10. Other/Pick One: Choose your own haunting.

It's the fabled Murder House. The one building realtors hate to sell and tour guides love to promote. Anyone who lives there has either been scared away by hauntings or end up dead. For those that believe though, there are good ghosts in there. The chances of someone coming across one though is rather low. Or at least, that's how the stories go.

Violet is lounging on the only piece of furniture left in the living room - a sofa. She's flipping through a book she's read a couple hundred times by now. She's mellowed out some after being trapped here for years. There's not much to be a teenager about when you're dead.

Not all ghosts are particularly good at finding other ghosts. Which is why Rose, walking, if not living urban legend, has sought out the son of a god.

The tattoo given to her by the Route Witches bearing Persephone's blessing means she's hands-off as far as the controlling goes. She's still unsure where it puts him in terms of her rules, though- can she accept a coat and food from him? She doesn't know.

Not that she'd be particularly thrilled by the idea of McDonald's. "You have no idea how pseudo-sacrilegious you're being to road ghosts right now. Or, at least to this road ghost." They are in what was once a shiny retro-futuristic roadside diner/truckstop and is now a sad, half-empty place with old vinyl booths, a broken jukebox and the remains of signage for hand-cut fries and home-made pie. One could still almost smell the pie- the ghosts of peach and apple and lard-based pastry almost teasing at the senses.

[Most patrons are old enough to have grandchildren...or to regret never having them. They tinkle out of the time-honored theater dedicated to the dying art of rakugo, careful not to fall victim to the snowy sidewalk. A broken pelvis would be a terrible shame, especially after a masterful performance by Yuurakutei Yakumo. Listening to him is just like going back to the Edo period, or so they keep saying. Perfection, perfection.

Perfection, honestly. What do they know? Yakumo has been doing this for decades and still fusses over each one of his little mistakes. He can, however, fake confidence like a professional. An amicable wave of his hand to old fans, just before the gentle tapping of his faithful walking cane as he trails back to the theater administration's office. His heart hammers in his chest like a tasteless taiko, for he has misplaced something important.

He doesn't expect the office to be occupied at this time of the evening. To make matters worse, the young man standing close to the the brazier is not one of the theater staff, let alone an usual patron. Yakumo squints, missing his reading glasses. Not one of the theater's rumored ghosts either, even if the dump, freezing weather is so befitting of a kaidan. Heck, not even one of his own personal ghosts. Most likely, another insufferable journalist.

He makes sure to adorn his face with a polite and yet definitively unapproachable smile.]

Darc's eyes narrowed from his hiding place. It wasn't often that humans ventured this deep into the woods - and into his territory. And yet here one was, looking as if they were setting up to go into the very abandoned mine he needed to investigate.

This was some very poor timing.

What to do now? Scare the human away? Approach them? Scaring might work, since they looked like no more than a child. His gaze wandered to the human's equipment. Darc didn't know much about human technology, but it seemed the kid came prepared for something. Maybe the same reports of strange activity reached the humans as well. That may mean more humans, even if this one runs away. Hmmm...

Steeling himself, Darc stepped out from behind a tree, but remained in its shadows. His red eyes, and the left side of his body - covered in scales, with a large, draconic arm - would be all that was visible to Dipper. "Hey! You!" he shouted. His voice was thick and gravelly. "What brings a human into Deimos territory?"

And, well, anything to get away from her stinky sister is always a plus.

That was what people said and while it were the truth, Emily wasn't haunting the forest in order to scare anyone. She simply loved to watch the moonlight and that wasn't a thing she could do six feet down. Or however deep down she had been buried. She had to perform a haunting in order to see the world up top.

And this night the moonlight were especially lovely. Just watching the moon wasn't an option then. She danced around the trees, humming a soft tune. In her mind she wasn't disturbing anyone. Who would be out in the woods late at night anyway?]

[Coming from another realm, Ein's duty was to exterminate harmful creatures such as demons, ghosts and the like. He might've had experience with this, but as a Grim Angel... He still needed more training. There was always room to improve whenever you were technically the holy equivalent of the Grim Reaper. His familiar had told him that there were reports of supernatural activity starting to stir in a certain abandoned house. Therefore, he had to go investigated while they were finishing up on a report.

There were no doubts that a human was up to no good after getting a hold of some kind of item. Ignorantly playing around with forces that they couldn't understand were bound to have consequences. If this continued, then he was sure that a powerful ghost or demon could've been summoned and ended up bringing havoc to the world of humans. That being said, he had walked up the beaten path to a creepy looking house that lied on top of a hill. A magic stone that he had bought with him was able to help be a detector to lead the way. There was some whining on his end since the Magic Circle was supposed to place him close to the location! And this journey would be easier if he didn't sacrifice his wings! Why was his luck so bad?!]

Phew... Looks like this is the place. And the stone is resonating to the dark energies too.

[Ein holds up the stone in front of the door and places it in his pocket. He couldn't help and feel a little nervous since Rose wasn't here. But at this point on, there was no turning back! Awkwardly, he'll be opening the door and takes a peek in.]

[Being dead is pretty boring as it turns out. Being dead is especially boring when the house you're set to haunt keeps standing empty as family after family move out in a frenzied panic.

In hindsight, it's probably because of all the pranking.

Still, that does make the rare occasion when somebody does come by even more special. John remains hidden as he watches this new guy make his way through the house, sizing him up, trying to get a feel for this newcomer and what might be the best way to mess with him. Or at least, that's what John tries to do. It only takes about three minutes before he just can't help himself anymore.

Very slowly, very carefully, John slides a vase left behind by the previous occupants off of a shelf and lets it come crashing to the ground, right behind the new guy, keen to see his reaction.]
