Part of the charm of being in a relationship isn't found in the amor, the grand shows and trapping. Contentment can just as easily come from the little things - or even the silly things - about being close to someone. At first, you're either naturally standoffish or wary or you're intent on impressing them and not looking like a total nerd. That's how the "getting to know you" process works, unfortunately. As you get more serious...you may actually get less so? Maybe you'll let them see your dorky humor, your weird laugh, your bizarre hobbies, your bed head. It could end up that the two of you have more fun playing video games together, Netflixing and chilling, baking cookies, or sword fighting (if you're in the olden days, where Netflix and cookies are scarce). And, really, you can't help that their clothes are so comfortable on you.

It's a good thing you guys are together. You really did gain a best bud.

Hinata. [It's nearly dawn. Too many times has she caught him wide awake at an hour that suggests he never rests. While he possesses no cosmos of his own, his energy is easy to read. She folds her arms over her chest with a heavy sigh.]

If you keep working like this you're going to collapse.

[Originally as the saints of Athena woke in this era. She had been sent to investigate and determine if the Ultimate Despairs were to be eliminated. That had been before she uncovered their story. While they were guilty of so much...there was no evil in their hearts. Somewhere along the way things ended up like this. She sighs, pulling out the chair beside him and sitting down.]

But, I can understand it. Are you still working on that fix for the world wide network...or is this another project?

You don't need to worry about me, I know my limits.

[ He can't help but sigh himself, wiping sweat off his brow as he finally straightens himself out. Even though Hinata knew what he was and wasn't guilty of, there were things that he just had to do. Or rather, he felt like doing. ]

This, however, is for something different. I already finished fixing the network a while back... this is for something completely different. I'm trying to build some protective armor.

Nah, Komaeda...

[They're at the library; she remembered it's one of Komaeda's favorite places, so next time she got the chance to use one of those stupid trip tickets, she'd invited him along. The only problem is that she can't read a lot of the things in here... what language is this, even?

Not to mention the library must be air conditioned, too, because she keeps shivering in her skirt and short-sleeves. So while Komaeda seems engaged perusing the books, she sidles up next to him, giving him a bit of a smile. It had only been a few days since they'd shared the bed together, so surely something like this wouldn't be a problem...]

Can I borrow your jacket?

[At first he's not quite sure why she's asking. Why would she want his jacket. It wasn't a big deal though and before he even says anything he's taking it off to hand over.]

Sure, if you want it. It will probably be big on you though.

[She takes it, gratefully wrapping herself in it. It is a little big on her more slender frame, but that's fine. It doesn't quite drag on the ground, so that's good enough.

She edges closer, trying to follow his gaze toward the shelf.]

See anything good?

Some of them look really interesting, but I can't read a lot of them. But there's some about the local wild life, as well as about the history. Like who discovered the islands first and how they became developed.

Oh, yeah?

[Boring... She'd rather read manga or novels. Or at least study something she can eventually use when they get back to school.

So after a few seconds, she looks back up at him again, tucking her chin into the folds of his jacket.]

Aren't you going to be cold like this, though?

There's other things as well, about other parts of the world. It was probably designed so there would be something interesting for anyone to come here.

[It was a lot of fun to look at the different books. It was almost hard to choose one to start with.]

Ah... I don't mind. If I get chilly I can step outside?

[She hums a little, unimpressed with the offer, and starts taking his jacket off again.]

Hang on, I have a better idea... figure out which book you want to read and meet me downstairs, okay?

[Near the tables and the statues. If he watches, she seems to be busily shifting chairs around, stepping back a few times to check before nodding in satisfaction. All she's done is push four chairs close together in a sort of trapezoid-like shape...]

[It takes him a bit, and in the end he picked out several, though not too many as to be hard to carry, they were varied and from different places since diversity in this aspect was important.

He made his way down stares, he didn't watch her arrange them, but he does discover them in their end shape.]

Hmm? Is it some kind of game?

Yeah, sure.

[She tosses him a quick smile and shakes out his jacket from the messy fold she'd put it in while she was arranging the chairs. Once unfolded, she swings it into the air and drapes it over the chairs, creating a tiny makeshift fort.]

There, see? Now we can both be warm.

[She puts her hands on her hips, pleased with herself.]

[He chuckles a little. Though, he wasn't sure how warm they would be that way. But it was a nice idea, and it wasn't like he wouldn't mind sitting next to her in there.]

There might be packing blankets somewhere as well, if you wanted a bit more.

[A more secluded fort, or at least one with more walls.]

[ in a rare but not unwelcome turn of events, it's a quiet night for jessica. no work lined up for the evening, no cheating spouses or missing persons, and instead of heading to the nearest bar, she finds herself picking up a giant bag of chinese takeout and texting trish.

hope you're home.

—which, in true jess form, is the only warning trish gets before jessica is on her apartment floor a few minutes later to knock on her front door.

planning ahead, what's that? ]

[ while she's come to expect the unexpected whenever jess is around, her sudden arrival still takes trish by surprise. even so, she much prefers seeing her in these rare moments rather than not at all.

she answers the door soon after, lifting a brow at the bag of food. ]

Hey. Already done for the night?

Yep.

[ aaaand she's not going to even wait to be invited in before walking into the apartment, bringing the smell of chinese with her.

at least jess makes up for randomly showing up by bringing food. ]

Did you eat already?

[ it's actually fairly late, so any normal person probably should have had food by now, but jess doesn't exactly keep the most regular of schedules. ]

[ she doesn't complain as jess enters her home, stepping to the side before closing the door behind them. ]

It's almost midnight, Jess.

[ of course she already ate. while it's a pointed comment, her response is more of a gentle admonition than an indignant reprimand. after tightening the belt on her bathrobe, trish exhales in surrender. ]

I'll grab some plates.

[ midnight or dinnertime? jess is leaning towards dinnertime.

she goes to put the bag of food on trish's counter, starting to set out the little containers.

glancing back at trish, she eyes the bathrobe appraisingly. ]

You weren't in bed, were you?

[ and because jess doesn't really see the need for plates, she just helps herself to trish's silverware drawer, pulling out a fork so she can dig into one of the containers of chicken. ]

Not all of us can survive on three hours of sleep.

[ she sets a plate near jess, even if she won't use it, and serves herself an egg roll with another. a small midnight snack can't hurt, right? ]

I have work in the morning.

[ Every year in Seattle, there was a food truck festival and Charlie hadn't missed a single one. This year was almost no different except she'd traveled from her home with Rocky in Boulder to show off the truck she had now. The reunion with her old restaurant had been a blast and the couple hadn't gotten to their hotel until three AM. With neither of them being tired, they'd put on a show on Netflix on Rockys laptop and were now fully engrossed in the lives of the Baudelaire orphans and very comfortable in pajamas, with ice cream for dinner. . ]

Did you read the books this is based on?

Pffft. No. [He talks around a mouthful of ice cream, then reaches over with his spoon to steal a solid chunk of brownie out of hers--even though they're both eating the same kind.] Got enough problems in my own life without having to escape into someone else's...'specially since Dad's started talking about stepping down as Alpha.
