BETRAYAL MEME

You have done something unspeakable to the people closest to you. How did this come to be, and how will you make amends?


Instructions

Post with your character with their name, series, and whether you're the betrayer, the betrayed, or simply leave it blank! Then, either make up your own scenario to your liking, or use our prompts (RNG totally optional) and go wild!

(Example: for organization's sake, denote b3+2 where you killed someone and are trying to hide it or r5+3 for a situation where you side-hopped and now want nothing more than to make things right, so that people know at a glance whether you're betraying or being redeemed and what you did.)

betrayal; you've turned your back on everything you once stood for

1) you're innocent. it's not your fault, but they can never know. maybe you're protecting someone. maybe you're being blackmailed. whatever the case, it's your dark secret.
2) you're hiding. you've done something terrible, but no one knows it yet. how far will you go to bury what you've done for good?
3) you're uncertain. everything is in place now, but nothing's been set into motion yet. maybe it's not too late to turn back. or is it?
4) you're slipping. you thought you could change. maybe for a while you even managed to. but now you find yourself falling back to your old ways, and everyone around you is at risk.
5) you're reacting. they betrayed you first. you're not in the wrong. they deserve this. they brought this upon themselves. you're not really betraying anyone if they pushed first.

redemption; you've done something that can never be forgiven

1) you're trapped. they caught you red-handed, or maybe you turned yourself in. now those you betrayed are free to face you one by one and have their revenge.
2) you're false. this whole betrayal thing isn't working out quite the way you'd hoped. maybe if you play your cards just right, you'll be able to get your old life back.
3) you're selfless. whatever forced your hand to begin with doesn't matter anymore. you'll destroy yourself and play the role of a villain to the very end if that is what it takes to make things right.
4) you're lost. what you did was wrong, and you know that now. you can never be sorry enough, and you've lost your way. all you want to do is find home. won't anyone out there show you the way?
5) you're tortured. you have to make amends for what you've done. you have to. the thought consumes you, possesses you. you have to find them, help them. but after what you've done, will they even want to see you again?

3) you joined the other side

5) you lied
6) you simply are. you were never 'good' to begin with.

Once he's put them onto his bed, he turns around to face Arthur, eyebrows questioningly raised.]

[ he's just staring in horror ] I can see you still haven't learned to use your closet properly. [ he shakes his head, and he lets this man clean his chambers... ]

Once I'm done cleaning your room and doing all the other chores for both you and Gaius, I can't say I'm particularly eager to clean my own room. Not to mention exhausted.

I hardly think that's an excuse. [ he looks pointedly at Merlin. Who just had the day off again? ]

[He opens his mouth to say that is too an excuse, when the meaning behind that look catches up to him.

Ah.]

Iii lost track of time reading.

[And he gestures with both hands at a book he wasn't actually reading, but he can't exactly give away the magic book, can he.]

[ Arthur sighs and rubs his eyes ] Well, at least you were doing something worthwhile for a change. [ definitely assuming it's some herbal book or another. Poor Merlin, forced to study even on his day off... ]

Doing your chores isn't worthwhile? I see, I'll just get into a habit of reading things then, make myself useful!

[Oh, but studying magic is the best thing, don't worry about him.]

On the contrary. You'll do your chores and fetch me documents from the archives. If you can read, you can bloody well help me with my work. [ in the drudgery department. ]

...so now I'm supposed to be doing some of your work on top of my own?

[ the cockiest grin Merlin can imagine is gracing Arthur's face as he claps Merlin on the back ] I guess you should pay more attention to my bath water from here on out. You better get to work.

[ seems like a good time to make a graceful escape, now that Arthur's feeling a bit better about the whole ordeal. ]

[Well, he's certainly not feeling any better about it!]

I said I'm sorry, isn't that enough for Your Highness?!

[Do you want to start a war, Arthur? Do you? Because, really, he doesn't mind, and you'll regret it.]

And it's been duly noted. I could have you thrown in the stocks again if you ever even think of trying something like that a second time.

[ not that he would, but he could ]

You'll have to come with a better threat than that. I can deal with the stocks.

Would you rather be hanged? [ he'd offer the dungeons, but Merlin seemed to have a curious knack for getting out of those. ]

[He would get out of the stocks too, if that wasn't out in the open.]

[ Arthur leans get the door jamb, looking Merlin over with a contemplative eye ] I don't know... A little time spent hanging outside the window might do you some good. It'll actually get blood flowing to that brain of yours.

[ Confess, Merlin likes his tomatoes and raw cabbages. ]

You won't have a choice if you don't pay better attention to those chores I gave you.

[ he rolls his eyes admitting defeat and walks out of Merlin's room. ] And do try to clean your room sometime!

It's probably not gonna happen for a while if you're increasing my workload! I should get a raise!

[He feels he should be annoyed, but suddenly he can only grin, somehow.]

[ Arthur barked out a laugh, effectively saying dream on as he walked through Gaius' chambers. ] I do love how you think, Merlin, but no, I'm afraid a raise is out of the question.

[ still laughing, he'll ease his way out of Gaius' chambers feeling calm and relaxed for the first time since this whole mess began. Seriously, what in the world was Merlin going to think of next? ]

[And then he's laughing, too, because things at least seem to be normal. He does wonder why Arthur was acting so weird, though... He's pretty sure Arthur never actually did say.]
