He had landed a perfect shot on the omnic's core, drawing black smoke from within its machinery. Gabriel pulled the trigger one last time to set it ablaze, that ought to do it. He turned back to find Mccree a few steps behind, tucking his revolver into its holster. Jesse's eyes beamed with approval as he reached for Gabriel's shoulder.

Without warning, Jesse shoved Gabriel aside and reached for his gun. He heard the shot before the kid had a chance to aim, a sniper riffle.

Gabriel was breathing again and the smoke seeped into his lungs but he couldn't care less, he saw the moment Jesse managed to pull the trigger one last time, hitting his mark with a clean headshot. Gabriel pulled himself up and rushed to find him, the bullet had found the one spot in his chest that his plaque didn't cover. Blood was quickly spreading, soaking through his shirt.]

[It's been a long and dreary road to this point. Everyone had thought with the LMB defeated and the UN headquarters secured, the battle for Manhattan was all but over. People had started making plans - some were even picking out apartments for when resettlements commenced. There was hope, real hope, that things would return to normal.

Then, ten days out from Christmas, Keener had hacked into the post office's PA system. "I have a Russian virologist and your vaccine doesn't do crap-all against the strain he's engineering, you have 72 hours to get off the island before I release it" isn't what you want to hear over your morning cup of joe.

By the end of the day, almost all law and order had disintegrated. People were shoving past National Guardsmen and cops to stuff themselves into whatever could float across the Hudson, and Preacher, Voodoo, and Lindianne had been rounded up and ushered into the Situation Room for the quickest mission briefing Faye had ever given: enter the Dark Zone, find Vitaly Tchernenko, disable whatever delivery device had been thought up for the new strain of Dollar Flu - and kill Aaron Keener.

Now it is ten days later - ten days completely cut off from all outside help, and the mission could not be any further in the gutter. The announcement was a bluff, a trick to lure the three of them in here while the rest of the JTF was preoccupied with containing the panic. A long trail of breadcrumbs had led them to Tchernenko's corpse, strapped to a chair and with a bullet hole in his forehead. And now, after a record-setting winter storm and Rikers and rogue Agents (and just plain insane Agents), they have finally tracked Keener to this New Law tenement-

-which he's booby-trapped to go up as one big firebomb with so much the slightest spark. Now it's crumbling all around them, flames licking at the walls and warping the floorboards beneath their feet. Preacher and Voodoo fell through the floor down below where Lindianne is now and haven't come back up since - which wouldn't be so bad, if Keener weren't here in the apartment with her.

It's hard to get a fix on his location through the fire and the smoke, but his voice rings clearly throughout the space.]

I have to hand it to you, Parker!

There's a kind of beauty to rail travel, a chance to see the country in ways that air and car simply cannot match. The scenery is simply breathtaking, as they chase the sunset through this mountain pass, the sky ablaze in pinks and red, the surrounding peaks capped in gold.

Of course, the effect is somewhat spoiled by the fact that Judy and Ezio are pelting hell for leather across the roof of the train, half a dozen Abstergo thugs hot on their tails, the engine at their backs belching fire and thick, black smoke into the sky. One last mission, one last powerful artifact out of Templar hands. If they can make it, if they can get off this flaming death trap.

If.

"Judy-!" He knows she probably can't hear him, not over the sound of wheels to track, nor the icy wind as it tears at their hair and clothes.
