[ the first rain the 100 experienced on earth (then, the 98) after being condemned down do it, had been a gentle, calm, welcoming thing. not all of them are like that, they learn. some violent, with lightning striking the dirt and leaving scorch marks and craters and forest fires. like the planet itself wants them off, doesn't trust humanity on it anymore, isn't willing to let people turn it into a wasteland once more.
that's the kind they're trapped in now, murphy and jasper hiding out in back of some ruined bunker, concrete walls dark and cold and dim, but sheltering. a campfire burns in the center of the room, and they're leaned against the far wall, jasper having just shared what's likely to be the best thing to pass the time between them without dangerous incident. ]
Spotting wild growing weed plants. That's not something they teach in Earth Skills. [ Murphy's commenting mellowly, as he breathes out a stream of smoke, body slouching back against the wall, eyes half lidded. ] There's one thing we can be grateful for - at least the pothead didn't get axed yet.
[Jasper supposes there would be better people to be stuck with. Monty, for example. Or Octavia. But he's stuck with Murphy but at least they'd gotten a fire going and at least they were out of the storm which Jasper didn't like to admit but it scared the shit out of him. This ruined bunker felt safer than the tents that they had had set up too.
So in a way, it's lucky.]
I had my own extracurricular studies. [Jasper said blandly, without much commitment to how he had learned so much about weed. That being said, Monty and he had made it a point to be experts.]
Wasn't for lack of trying. [Seriously, the earth has been trying to axe him since Day 1.]
[ if he's honest, yeah, the storm outside scares the crap out of murphy just as much, but he isn't honest, and he's not telling anyone that, let alone jasper. but if anything's likely to take the edge off that fear, it's the herb jasper brought along. ]
Yeah, well, join the club. [ granted, jasper was the first one to get a spear to the chest, so he has a right in that. more credit than murphy's willing to give sober. give it a couple minutes for the drug to hit fully.
he's already starting to feel more chatty, shoulders slouching as the tension rolls out, legs sprawling out over the bunker floor as his limbs feel looser, less achey. ]
So this's what got you tossed in Skybox? [ Jasper always had seemed more gentle than anyone else, it's no surprise he hadn't been one of those with violent crimes. not arson, like murphy. ] What was it the botanists thought they needed weed for besides someone getting lit from it?
[Jasper rolls his eyes but only briefly because he's more focused on the pot and letting himself relax with it. It's not so hard to ignore the storm outside if he focused on the effects seeping over him.]
Yeah. [More so, Monty forgot to make sure they covered for what they had taken but there's no real malice in it. They'd both been a part of the issue after all and all in all it hadn't been the worst decision.]
Sign me up for the sickness that's cured by smoking all day. [ murphy mumbles through another exhale of smoke, holding the joint out to pass to jasper. yes, they're sharing, resources are precious, okay? especially this one. besides, they likely don't need much to get to the point they're trying to.
as such, with his head feeling pleasantly spinny, murphy starts to scoot down, moving from sitting against the wall to laying down, with his arms folding behind his head to pillow, eyes blinking at the dark ceiling, before sliding to Jasper again. ]
You think Princess's crying about sending out a search party for you yet? [ For Jasper, specifically. Because he's her people, as far as Murphy figures, and like hell Bellamy would really care if Murphy for himself fried by lightning. ]
Not really pleasant sicknesses as far as I know. Definitely not the kind that would make it worth it. [Jasper puts a damper on that parade. Oh well. He takes the joint and takes a long inhale, closing his eyes as it washes over him again and he slowly exhales.
He looks over at Murphy again, and then shrugs at the question.] Maybe... it'd be stupid to go out in this for me, or anyone... [He can't deny that probably no one would really want to go looking for Murphy.]
Figures. [ that you have to be practically dying to get anything relatively nice on the ark. that is, if they don't just euthanize you for the sake of resources.
either way, they aren't on the ark anymore, and murphy's head is feeling pleasantly bubbly, eyes blinking closed as he hums a little, fingers tugging at some strands of his hair, because the texture just feels so interesting while high. ]
They'd do it anyway. Should've seen 'em when you took the spear to the chest. [ jasper's one of the Good Guys. clarke would wage war against the grounders to get him back, he thinks. murphy thinks it's difficult to blame her - jasper's a decent guy. easy to like, for most people. hell, murphy thinks he actually enjoys his company, which is a miracle, considering how many people he doesn't like. ]
[Jasper watches Murphy, there's almost something soft about him but it's probably the fact that they're both really high.]
It wasn't storming like this then. [Jasper counters and he kind of hopes that no one's out looking for him. He's safe. There's weed and well Murphy is some kind of company so he's not alone either.]
[ it is probably the fact they're blazed out of their minds and hormones already do weird things to teenagers, but murphy's finding jasper reflecting something soft to him. not that he hadn't always been soft, but in a way that isn't so offensive, at the moment. or maybe murphy's just chilling out enough to not be bitter about people who can get away with being gentle without being second guessed. ]
No, it's not. [ he murmurs, distant, and flashes a smile that seems less cruel and more genuine, for once. ] Who knew, you're not terrible company after all.
[ which is him ribbing. a little weed isn't the cure for bad personality, okay? ]
[ Jasper grins. It's an easy smile, something that's not so hard to draw from him. He knows that there's no malice behind Murphy's statements now, it's playful and not malicious as he knows the other can be. ]
Monty. [ It's said with another grin. He clearly doesn't mind the teasing, especially not when he's this high. He takes another hit and then as he exhales he offers it back to the other. ]
