And all I lov’d—I lov’d alone—
![]() You've always been lonely, as long as you can remember. Perhaps its your appearance that drives other aways, your attitude, your personality, your dangerous lifestyle or even your circumstances beyond your control. By your own design or no, out of necessity or not, all that matters is you've never had a true companion, not really. Until you meet another freak, someone else incredibly different...someone who also wants to stay with you. The circumstances, good or bad, under which you met don't matter, because you're not alone anymore. In fact, this person makes you want to look past any self-loathing or low self-esteem you may have and be better. At least they do on some level. Why they care, you don't entirely know. One thing is for certain, however: you'll do anything to keep them safe and by your side. Your situation may just come in handy, for once.

Hngh. Kaz?
[The strong smell of a Cuban cigar could be smelt a mile away, as it's scent blew along the wind. The soldier inhaling it gave a long stare to the blond before him.]
team 'eternal loner' and 'racism-induced isolation issues' high fives into the costa rican sunset
[he doesn't even have to hear Snake's voice to know he's near-- the familiar cigar smoke is more than enough. and as it turns out, a good substitute for footfalls, which Snake seemingly doesn't have most of the time, maybe from years of stealth training. it's great on missions. scares the shit out of a guy when you live in the same run-down shack as he does and you turn around to see him suddenly standing a meter behind you on a daily basis.]
[with Galvez and the girl gone, and the details of their new offshore plant base worked out (yes, they had gotten that helicopter, you're welcome Snake), there's a lot of packing up to do. sure, mercenaries aren't exactly known for their collections of worldly possessions, but they've all managed to accumulate a good deal more than they can carry on their back after a few months left blissfully unharassed by the CIA. some of Kaz's things are strewn across his cot, half-packed-- things like a small sewing kit, a few empty magazines for his 1911, what looks like a couple of questionably-acquired Rolexes, and jammed under all that, a dirty magazine or two.]
Hey, here's a question-- should I bother to fix the leak in the roof again if we're leaving by the end of the week? I think it'll hold up unless it storms, but...
[but do they really want to risk a small flood in case it does storm.]

If this works?
Settling near Cassian in the limited space is, he tells himself, something of a random calculation, and not a need to sidle up to the nearest thing to familiarity he has night now. A few conversations amounts to more than he has with anyone else (and Jyn has her father's eyes and set to her jaw and he can't talk to her right now, and he's pretty sure Baze might still want to space him a little). "Found a stash of ration bars under the other seat," he announces, by way of an excuse to be in this particular square meter and not some other.

Leaving the castle — what a quaint idea. The thought of it would make him laugh, if it didn't leave such an empty hole in his chest whenever he looked beyond the gates.
It's been a week since their last offering was lead within the castle gates. only the bravest of men venture within, past the great wrought iron to abandon whatever livestock they'd lead with them before running quickly to safety and freedom. He always eats what they bring; it saves him the effort of hoping some deer or hare might wander close enough for him to bring down before it escapes to the forest he's not set foot in for nearly six years. Their offerings are often weeks apart, which is why he's rather curious when he hears the grinding of unoiled iron echo from beyond the frost-coated gardens. Rearing up, he brushes aside a tattered excuse for a curtain to stare out to the edge of his prison. There are men there again, bringing an offering — but this is no goat or swine. They throw their sacrifice to the battered stone path, her wrists and ankles bound.
A woman. They've brought him an actual person to eat. His stomach twists in anger and disgust as he watches them hurry away, closing and chaining the great gates behind them. His hackles raise, bristling fur along the back of his neck. A man-eater now, is he? To these white men, he is no better than the creature that keeps him prisoner here. Wood shatters beneath his claws as he grips the windowsill before turning to lumber from the drawing room, making his way to the grand staircase in the entry hall. If the woman is smart, she will find her way out and escape before her captors are any the wiser; if she is not and she enters inside... Well. He'll just have to figure things out from there. ]
