Because you're mine, I walk the line

SECRET relationship;

The fact that you're in a relationship with this person isn't public knowledge. Actually, no one knows about it except for the people involved. Maybe you guys are just private like that; on the other hand, it may be a necessity to keep things a secret from others. Maybe you're both team mates, and others on the team would give you grief, or you're not suppose to be dating, or you're not the type to usually date and you're only testing the waters. Perhaps it's the combination of you two, possibly an odd couple, that would bring some controversy or some teasing. Or, you know, you could not want to deal with friends and relatives being busybodies. Your reasons are your own.

Are you content with stealing moments to be together as a couple? Do you want to make your relationship known and the fact that you can't drives you batty? Remember, there are lots of benefits to dating in secret. You can be yourselves completely, away from prying eyes, and get to know each other better as potential longterm romantic partners. In a way, it's ideal.

(Grabbed from between Scream 2 and Scream 3 so secret may be her best bet.)

[After a certain...incident with Hei and Esther, Hei had decided to help her where she worked. The only problem was trying to talk to her. She seemed to be avoiding him lately, and when he could get the chance to talk, words would not come. It drove him nuts, the incident still fresh in his mind, and no doubt in hers as well. But how could they approach this? He didn't know.

For now, he just sat there in his room, trying to think of how to handle this issue...It was not going well.]

[ After the...the incident, Esther had taken care of herself with Hei's help, and never told another soul. Not in the confessional, not her friends, not even her partner. She knew she should, that the Vatican should be aware of those people existing - after all, in the chaos afterward, she wasn't sure if they had been killed or not - but...she was too ashamed. Father Abel knew something was off, but didn't press it; at least not yet.

And then there was Hei. He had insisted following her to the Vatican, and while she knew she should have said no, she couldn't find it in herself to do so. He had been there, knew what happened, gotten them both out. There was an unbreakable connection between them.

At the same time, Esther believed it was guilt that kept him here, and that was not fair to him. So she headed to his place a little after dinner, the small apartment just outside the Vatican she had arranged for him. She was dressed in the white habit that she now hated - Esther felt like an imposter in it, and dreaded having to put it on each day. At least she had quietly acquired new guns, which made her feel a fraction better...and yet, it hadn't mattered before --

She closed her eyes tight, stopping that train of thought.

Arriving at Hei's door, Esther hesitated a few moments before knocking and stepping back. ]

[That knocking broke him out of his trance. Shaking his head, he realized trapping himself like this wasn't going to help. Went down that road once before, and it was far too dark for him to do that kind of crap again.

Though when he opened the door, any of that positive attitude faded. He kept up a fake smile, one to at least show he was fine to Esther. No need to make her worry more.]

Oh, Esther! Is something wrong?

[ Esther noted the fake smile on Hei's face. It was strained, and didn't reach his eyes, but she wasn't about to say anything, at least not yet. So she attempted a weak smile of her own...and tried to fight the nervousness that had begun to take over. ]

No, no, there's no emergency or anything. I just - ah...could I come in?

[Usually his acting skills could save him in a pinch...not this time, especially around her. Only helped to bring some memories ans guilt back. But...he wasn't going to solve this by avoiding her. After all, it was thanks to Esther he knew of some kind of peace.

He moved aside, opening the door more.]

Sure thing. Make yourself at home.

[ Esther stepped inside the apartment, and made her way to the couch. She sat down at one end, fidgeting with those damn skirts. Once Hei had taken a seat, she spoke up. ]

I...first, I wanted to apologize for avoiding you. That wasn't fair of me, and I'm sorry.

[He closed the door, eventually taking a seat next to her, a cushion of distance between them. At her words, he nodded, understanding that easy enough.]

It's fine. Honestly, I have had trouble talking as well.

[ A little surprised that it wasn't just her, she turned to face him. After all, to her, Hei seemed as if he could easily navigate any sort of situation. ]

Really? Why?

[He flinches a bit. Well, had no choice now. Just...had to spill everything. Even if he looked really uncomfortable.]

I never dealt with a situation like this at all. I usually have better control of my emotions, but after that....that's different.

[ Esther immediately felt bad when she saw him flinch. Part of her wanted to take it back, say never mind, but the other part...wanted to hear. Needed to hear.

And because Hei had been honest, she owed him nothing less. ]

It's the same for me. Well... [ She gave him a halfhearted smile. ] Maybe not the emotions part, but...I haven't told anybody else. I don't think I even can. Not even my partner, and he is one of my closest friends.

[He tried to stare at her and the smile, but found that strangely harder to do. It kept driving him nuts.]

Even I want to forget, my body sure as hell can't...

[ Esther's smile faded. She wasn't sure what he meant, exactly, and was afraid to ask him to clarify. So she moved on to the real reason she had come here tonight while she still had the strength to do so. ]

We'll never be able to forget, but...I don't want you to stay here out of guilt. I'll always be thankful for your kindness back there...

[ Her voice was wavering now, and the words were hard to get out. It wasn't fair to keep him here, even if she selfishly wanted him to stay. Even if she so badly just wanted to be held by someone who understood... ]

Hei, you're a truly good person who deserves to move on and be happy.

[Her words kept surprising him, enough to make him rise from his seat. He turned around, facing Esther before suddenly hugging her. He needed the contact as well. It was too long since he ever got one, everyone from his team and family gone. If anything, being here helped his life more. It was just this one issue between them, of the problem he couldn't forgive himself for.]

Thank you...[His voice was calmer, a bit happier. At least there was someone who thought he was good, despite all of this.] Sorry about all of this.

[ The hug caught her off guard, but in a good way. Her arms tightened around him and held him close. A great deal of tension left her body. ]

You're welcome. And there is nothing to forgive.

[ Her voice was quiet and soft, eyes closed as she savored the contact, afraid it might be the last time. ]

[He hugged her closer as well when she returned the embrace. He too didn't want it to end right now. Closing his eyes, he rested his head against her shoulder, letting her words sink in.]

[ She wished they had met...before. And if she were to be truly honest with herself, she wanted more. To have him touch her and kiss her in a safe place, and she knew it wasn't right, but...she couldn't help it.

So Esther settled for pulling away just enough to brush a kiss against his cheek, and looking him in the eye. ]

What are you going to do?

[Those feelings reappeared as she kissed his cheek. His body was hungry for contact, an urge he tried to suppress and was normally able to. But to go so long without such comfort...he couldn't anymore.

He leaned in, gently kissing her on the lips without giving an answer.]

[ If she were honest with herself, Esther had...expected that. And she had wanted it so much, it frightened her.

She was more than happy to return the kiss, and hugged him close to her, not wanting to let go. The feelings inside of her were so raw and intense they made her heart ache, and a couple warm tears slipped down her cheeks.

She didn't notice, though; all that mattered was they were touching and holding one another, and she could taste him as the kiss deepened, and...it was the truth that Esther had been touch-starved as well. ]
