One small spanner in the works can change nothing and yet everything at the same time.
The world you live in is a lot like the normal one. History progresses more or less as it should. Technology flourishes. Empires build upwards, then crumble and fall. The only difference? Somehow, along the way, society has stratified into three categories:
- Normal: The regular folks. Nothing more, nothing less.
- Fighters, Berserkers, or Servants: The nomenclature depends on who you ask, but the fact reminds that these people have incredible powers, the nature of which varies yet can range from psychic abilities to resilience to super strength. However, the downside is that, without a "master" (we'll get to that later) as a partner, they can feel listless and not even have control of their powers. Their drive, whether they accept it or not, is to find the true master that will calm them and help them sharpen their abilities - and there is only one, true match. No substitutes accepted, and the longer they hold off on finding their master, the looser their grip becomes. In some parts of society, fighters are considered second class citizens, but this isn't a usual situation.
- Masters: Think of these folks as focusing lens. They usually have no special powers, but they can hone the abilities of their "servant" to a T. There are a few benefits, including having someone willing to protect...and sometimes, care...for you at all costs. However, the primary benefit is that unpaired masters are often killed off by rogue fighters or forced into bonds that don't work by half-insane ones.
Once a master/fighter pair is made, there have been reports of psychic connections and fighters being strengthened by the mere presence of their master, which means pairs ofter live together. This is helpful, because despite the fact that you would think pairs would want to peacefully coexist, there's been strife since, well, before anyone can remember. Other pairs will feel a desire to defend their territory and status, and even non-violent pairs will find themselves attacked. There's
One more important thing to note: it's not generally accepted for fighters and masters to be romantically involved. In fact, it's frowned upon. But, given the close living quarters, expectations, bonds, and the fact that no one will be as close or as understanding - ah, it's best to say there's more of a "don't ask, don't tell" policy. Yet as a fighter or a master, you won't fall for your partner...
...will you?
HOW TO PLAY
- Comment with your character, preferences, and their role (fighter, master, normal). Feel free to include as much information as you'd like.
- Reply to others.

PROMPTS
- Discovery: You've just found out your status as fighter or master. How do you respond?
- First Sight: Oh, who is that? Whoever it is, your heart is already racing and your instincts are kicking in.
- Trying It Out: It's a trial period for your fighter/master pairing, and you must get into sync.
- Bond: You've decided that this is the forever relationship you want and are prepared for the ceremony, which is, essentially, a blood oath.
- Not Right: Because of societal pressure or just by being unbonded at the wrong time, you've been forced into a partnership that doesn't work. Aside from being miserable, it could also be dangerous, as the fighter's powers could go haywire.
- Unhealthy: In this relationship, the fighter is viewed by the master as their property. Or, in the inverse, the master is viewed as weak and resented.
- Adoration: Unlike the unhealthy relationship, in this bond, the fighter puts the master above all else and quite nearly worships them.
- Save: You want to take away a fighter or a master because you care for them and their partner isn't treating them well. That's noble...but is it such a good idea?
- Doting: Some fighters or masters feel the urge to take care of their partner's needs, especially when they forget to take care of themselves.
- Fluff: There are actually fun, loving moments between the well-adjusted fighter and master, even in the most volatile of scenarios.
- Calm: It's a rare time of peace where the partners can be almost domestic.
- Heal: Injuries and mental hurts need to be taken care of, simultaneously strengthening the bond.
- Assigned: The pairing of you and your fighter or master was not natural. You were picked strategically for each other.
- Power Up: You have to become stronger. Luckily, you can get power and focus right from the tap.
- Need: You're desperate for your fighter or master, and your body and mind are rebelling against you because of it.
- Training: A fighter and master must work as one, and this ability must be practiced.
- Sense: Your master is in trouble, you can just feel it.
- Return: You two have been kept apart and are finally able to return to each others' presence.
- Pose: Actually, you're the opposite of what you're pretending to be - ie, a fighter is really a master - and so is you're partner. You're just posing for some reason or another.
- Love: You've fallen in love, as it's incredibly hard not to do so, but you must act as if nothing's changed.
- Public: You can't take it anymore. You two want to be acknowledged as a normal couple, and you want the world to know it.
- Most Pure Partnering: What better way to hone a fighter's skill than through the ultimate support: sex? The obligatory smut option.
- Mismatched: You've fallen in love with a fighter when you're a fighter or a master when you're a master.
- Not in Step: You're a terrible pairing. The two of you together makes no sense at all, but you must make it work.
- Childhood: From the very beginning of your life, you have been brought up as the perfect fighter or master.
- Don't Belong: You're normal; the only reason you're involved in all this is because the person you love is a fighter or master.
- Masters' Privilege: Masters can have a love interest in the "normal world"; fighters cannot. Is this a point of contention between you two?
- Dark Underbelly: You're a fighter or a master from the part of the world that sees fighters as second class. Can you learn that there's a different way?
- Jealous: The person you really want isn't your partner.
- Possession: After seeing the wandering eyes of your partner, you feel the need to remind them that it's you and them against the world.
- Comfort: The events of the day didn't go as planned, and one of you needs reassuring.
- Berserk Button: Your master has been threatened. You must destroy anyone who could have harmed them. Can you be brought back from the brink?
- Unexpected: A master protecting a fighter? Unheard of!
- Double Trouble: At least one of you in your pair is sadistic and looks for other fighter and master duos to torment, both physically and sexually, even if they don't want to fighter. The other party is willing or at the very least unable to be noncompliant.
- Attacked: You're a peaceful pair, but you've been sought out and our in danger.
- Need a Boost: Right in the middle of a fight, the fighter's strength is fading. The master must step in and show support or affection.
- To Be Left Alone: Your partner is leaving you. It is your duty to convince them to stay.
- Defeat: The battle didn't go your way. Your partner has been slain in front of your eyes; if you're a master, perhaps it was to get at you. Your humiliation is cinched by your being claimed.
- Betrayal: In a twist of fate, the one you should trust the most has been working against you this entire time.

Though she's bleeding more than she'd like, not dangerously so, but enough to cause adequate concern, probably. All the more reason to protest.
"They're just scrapes."
It's a half-breathless refusal, still trying to regain energy from that frenzy. At least the beast seems dead.

"Thanks for saving me, though." She started to work on Minako's wounds, making sure they're all patched up.

[So this is the day.
She would like to have her mother here, and her sister, but that is of course not possible. This place is holy, and none but werewolves are allowed into this clearing amidst a gathering of trees far out in the back of the mountainside. But at least her aunt, who is like another mother to her, can be here, and her pack as well. Soon-to-be old pack, depending on how this goes. If this ritual works out, they'll have to decide if they try to stay with a pack or go off just the two of them. Which would feel as strange as it is expected.
It's only with a good deal of reluctance that she leaves the people around her behind and steps out into the circle in the middle of the clearing, an area where everything but grass has been cleared away around a clear and deep pond. She stands still once she has reached the brink, looking across at the people on the other side.
Her soon-to-be partner is there, and her eyes search for the blond woman. She hasn't known Freya for long, still knows comparatively little about her, but the feeling upon first meeting her had been too striking to ignore it, and the following month had only solidified the impression. There was and is no doubt that they are meant to create this bond.
Whatever that may bring.]
no subject
It's terrifying in a way. To gain so much meant that she can lose it all over again. She feels her heartbeat's frantic pace and slowly begins to breath, focusing on Tuuli and the path in front of them. Everything will be unknown, new, exciting and thrilling but also difficult. Her own emotions and tension tighten like a mountain in her path. Freya opens her eyes and turns to look at the girl stepping into the circle.
And all those feelings vanished.
Her smile grows and the light gray of her eyes shift like the aftermath of a summer storm. There is promise in her gaze, hope, affection and strength. She doesn't know where that strength comes from but it's unrelenting and solid. For Tuuli she'd do anything, face any challenge without hesitation. When she spoke her voice is heavy but confident.]
Are you ready?
no subject
This is where she is headed now, and she's sure that they are headed there. There's a risk of failing, as there is with every ritual, but she is sure that they will not. The bond is so strong already, Freya's emotions almost tangible to her even without the blood to strengthen the connection. How could it not survive?]
I am.
[She's as ready as she will ever be, at least, and that will have to be enough.
Slowly, she starts to walk around the pond towards Freya, breathing calmly, trying to attune herself to the spiritual strength rising from the water's surface. As she approaches the other woman, she raises a hand, palm up, a simple request for Freya's hand to be laid in hers.]
no subject
Freya gently places her hand in Tuuli's and turned. They'd step together, as a pack, as one. They were more than just each other and this will strengthen that bond. She doesn't know all the steps but she doesn't care.
As long as Tuuli is by her side.]
no subject
The pond lays before them, deep and beautiful, and then the sun hits the surface at just the right angle and the water turns into a mirror, one large reflective surface.
Tuuli steps forward, and sideways, and then they stand somewhere else, somewhere that clearly isn't the Tellurian, as Tuuli's people call it - our physical world - any more.
For one, they stand on the ceiling of a tall cave, their feet solidly standing on stone thirty metres above the highest treetops growing on the ground of it. Above their heads, the ground is covered with various kinds of vegetation, some of it tropical, some Arctic, and everything in between. There are sounds in the air, birds and the voices of all kinds of other things.
Under their feet, there is only moss and stalactites, through which a narrow path winds its way to some distant spot ahead of them.
Softly, Tuuli exhales. Sure, this was only the beginning, but the first step has been done. The world lies behind.]
I'm glad you agreed. [To this, to give it a try, to give her a try. With a last squeeze, she lets go of Freya's hand and looks behind them. Unsurprisingly, there is no path there, it starts where they stand.
From here on out, she will have no idea what lies ahead. They'll have to do this one step at a time.]
no subject
She looks over to Tuuli and smiles. She'd do anything for her and that's all that really matters.]
Of course. [Weird mirror things got nothing on Freya.] Let's show them what our bond is made of.
[Who 'them' is, wasn't clear. Freya simply means the world. She'll show everyone how much she cares and what she cares for. It's Tuuli and she'll fight anything to protect her. She takes a step forward, keeping Tuuli close to her, even if they aren't touching.
Freya hasn't been to a place like this before and she isn't sure what to make of it or what they might run into.]
no subject
[What it lets Freya do, too, she's really curious of that. What she can enable her to do. It's a strange kind of responsibility, both smaller and greater than leading a pack of seven. Because with her old pack she knew that if something happened to her, there would be someone to replace her, that the rest would still be safe. If she dies or gets incapacitated on Freya now, there won't be anyone else to step in.]
We'll have to walk a while before we get anywhere interesting though, I think.
[They can see the path before them until it hits the ground, and unless something comes out of a blind spot, it'll just wind through rocks and moss.]
...Tell me more about what did before we met? [They'd talked a bit about all kinds of things, but her knowledge about Freya is still very spotty, and what better use of time is there than exchanging stories?]
no subject
Walking can be interesting. [Sometimes.]
[Her eyes look over at Tuuli and a light smile tugs at her lips.] You want to know? I feel like it's sort of boring. After leaving home I've been traveling everywhere. I showed you the map. I was able to sneak into classes and learn and I just let life take me wherever it went.
I only left the US a handful of times and found out that wolves aren't meant to fly. It's sort of dizzying. Or it's just me. I don't think I have motion sickness but you never know. Anyway, New Orleans is pretty cool. They have a lot of really neat culture things there and a crazy love for football. I can recount different things but before I met you I just went wherever.
no subject
I've flown a few times, but never out of Europe. And not really since my first change. So I can't tell what it would do to me now. Not sure if I want to find out, either. There are better ways of travelling.
[She's always enjoyed long distance running since she gained access to a wolf's body. It's a beautiful way of travelling, quiet and fast and one with all around her to a degree that no other way of travelling could give her.]
Are you doing any better with ships?
[She looks back at Freya. It's nice to just walk together, kind of in limbo, now that their bond is not fully sealed yet but there is no turning back anymore. To know that they won't have to part ways again like they had before to arrange for all of this.]
I mostly just stayed around home. First my mother made me finish school, and then my pack's alpha at that time was rather adamant about not moving on, and after [she hasn't mentioned this before, and she hesitates now, as well, before shaking her head.] Well, we would have needed a good reason to move on, wouldn't we?
Sorry imma be slow
I've never been on a ship. [She admits, looking up as if the sky was particularly interesting. It might be a little embarrassing to admit which is odd since Freya doesn't get embarrassed often. After a few seconds her eyes fell back over to Tuuli, the warm gray of her irises taking in the younger girl.]
Yeah. Move or stay. As long as I'm with you.
[Freya considers that decision easy. Where Tuuli is, she'll be too. She doesn't matter where in the world they end up because they'll be together. She's seen many places and has spoken to many people over her life time. Freya can safely say that it isn't all its cracked up to be. Having a family; people you're close to, means so much more.
Her hand reaches out and takes Tuuli's with a smile.] Is there any place you've always wanted to see? [Freya would take her there.]
np same
And [she grins lets go of the other girl's hand to reach over and wrap an arm around Freya's hips so she can pull her flush against her side and they can walk next to each other on the narrow path] that's good, because I'm not going to leave you that easily now.
Wherever. I've always kind of wanted to go to the Himalaya area, where my tribe is apparently from originally.
no subject
Himalaya? That sounds like it'd be fun.
[Her smile remains in place as she attempts to recall the event.] I was at a concert in Washington and I ended up on a plan with the band and a bunch of groupies. Like I said, accident.
[Freya can be rather charming when she wants to be.]
no subject
[She has to think with one crying eye that Colin would have enjoyed it, but no. That's behind, and as much as he'll ever keep a place in her heart ...this is different. Not a bond that has organically grown yet, but one that will grow greatly from where it has been rooted deeply inside them by fate.]
no subject
I had no where to go so I said yet. Since I helped out they didn't seem to care.
[She's blanking on the band name but it was a rock band that she always forgot the name of.] It was cool and I found out that passports are important. [Since she hadn't had one and flew into another country.]
