APOCALYPSE MEME The end of the world is here. Are you ready or are you going to kick the bucket? Maybe you've been prepared for the apocalypse for ages or you're blissfully unaware. You can play it straight or for comedy (think Shaun of the Dead), but please be aware that there's likely to be triggering content within!

TIMELINE 1. BEGINNING Things have only just begun. Can you get ahead of the problem or are things just going to go to shit? 2. MIDDLE Things HAVE gone to shit. You're right in the middle of things and there's no end in sight. You have to do your best just to get to tomorrow. 3. END Things are finally winding down (or amping up getting ready to wind down). You're in preparations for the final battle, you're killing off the last few zombies, you're living your life. 4. REBUILD/DESPAIR Things are OVER. Either you won or you lost, time to rebuild or go down in your bunker and cry. Hold onto your asses, folks. SCENARIOS 1. MONSTERS/KAIJU Think Godzilla or Pacific Rim. There are monsters, huge ones, and you gotta go through some shit to keep them from killing everything and busting up that last Dunkin Donuts you go to every Thursday with the cute girl working the counter. This is an outrage!! 2. ZOMBIES You know the drill. Whether fast or slow, virus or reanimated, airborne or fluid-borne, biting or eating: your favorite thing, zombies. Remember to aim for the head. 3. ALIENS Visitors from space! ... Except they're killing all of you! Does anyone you know have a cold? Send them to the front lines. 4. WAR Everything's gone to hell. It's going to become a nuclear winter out there if someone doesn't stop the tide of this war. History won't be written by the victors because there won't BE any. 5. "UTOPIA" Everyone is happy, right? Things are so much better now that we don't have any emotions, right? When we started culling populations to keep enough supplies for everyone, right? 6. ROBOTS YOU DID THIS TO YOURSELVES. YIKES. Skynet is a thing, everything is terrible, you're gonna get owned by a Reaper, whatever. Take 'em out, cowboy. 7. DISEASE You're not turning into rabid monsters, but people are dying off at alarming rates. What's causing it? Is there a cure? Is anyone immune? Figure it out, boyo. 8. MISC Anything left over!! Killer tomatoes? World taken over by talking dogs in exoskeletons? Whatever man, we're not the cops. Have fun. As always, these are just suggestions. Make up anything you want, as long as you're having fun!

There's blood on Cassian's jacket, his hands, seeping out around the edges of a jagged pipe that's still embedded through his side. It's hard to tell, but the lack of blood in his mouth makes him think maybe he escaped without an organ getting punctured. He stumbles through the alleys, avoiding the chaos, the screams, and the flash of lit up eyes as the robots stomp through the streets. Shock, more than pain, keeps him from acting and finding his weapon.

There had been no warning. One moment he had been discussing repairs with K2 and the next- the next-? He struggles to grasp the memories. Everything happened so quickly. A piercing sound had vibrated through the ruined city, and the sound of screams had begun. He remembered being thrown into a wall, the towering shadow of the one person in his life he dared to rely on and trust standing over him. The droid didn't respond to his question, showed no recognition to the call of his name, and no remorse when a pipe was ripped from the wall with one punch forward and pull back and then plunged into him.

K2 could have killed him in an instant, no weapon necessary. He had seen a similar units flatten a man's head almost effortlessly. Something of his friend had to still have been inside those circuits to leave him in a state like this. A sane person might have taken to hiding. Cassian was stumbling through the shadows trying to find one robot out of the mass of malfunctioning and rebelling droids and units in the streets.

When he hears the slam of metal into brick, he clutches the weapon protruding from his side and half limps, half sprints toward the source. He collapses shoulder first into a wall after a rough turn with his blaster already in his hand. It isn't K2 holding the other man up against the wall and that's all the confirmation Cassian needs to send a shot right through what seems to be the head of the other droid, replacing its processor with air and sparking wires.

A war would have been easier. Wars Cassian at least understood. This wasn't a fight he knew how to handle, and at the end of each day he was left with a maddening feeling that none of it mattered. Everyone died eventually, and when they died, they rose again. There was nothing he could do to stop that, no enemy government or organization he could face down and hope to put an end to. No preparations he could make to help fight the quickly spreading virus.

For a long time the best scientists still living worked against the clock to stop the spread of the virus. Things had never looked hopeful, but there had been some glimmer there of stopping or slowing the virus, up until the horrible realization had sunk in. There was no cure, just a genetic anomaly shared among a small percentage of beings that had a higher chance of surviving the virus unaffected. Hope had never been easy for Cassian, but it grew harder the more death began to take over and take away.

Before the virus there was not much for him to lose, but as the decay threw people together he had found himself surrounded by strays he had unintentionally helped or saved. They stuck around, and the longer they did, the closer Cassian grew to them until it happened. Suddenly, in the worst possible of times and environments, he had something more than his life to lose.

The virus just kept taking and taking, and for every person they saved, two more seemed to be ripped from life in the most brutal of fashion, leaving Cassian the one to put the bullet in the chamber and put an end to the short and miserable time they had spent together. He kept saving them, no matter how many times he was forced to pull the trigger. He would save them from death, and then in the end he saved them from a life no one should ever live.

There were only a handful of them left now, and it had been months since they had seen another living soul, but only days since they last buried one of their own. He had taken his post up on top of the old and rickety building they had claimed for a brief rest while they searched for supplies. His sniper rifle tucked under his arm and his eye pressed to the scope, scanning the streets below.

The only positive seemed to be that the number of walking corpses had also begun to die down. Either because they were starving or decomposing, he didn't know, but their numbers were dwindling, too. He muffled a coughing fit into his sleeve, his lungs sore from the ache of a sickness that had taken hold a week before. Likely just an ordinary illness but he kept his distance from the others. Even a cold or a cut could be deadly now. He had missed the splitting of the rations intentionally, choosing to remain at his post over heading down for a much needed meal. When he heard the footsteps behind him, he knew what it was likely about.

"I'll take mine in the morning."

...again, or something. Edison's robot was overhauled by Avicebron and it's now some super robot-golem...thing and then it got possessed by a demon and the world's ending or-...does it really matter? Their lives and after-lives and the canon in general is just one long oh shit, strike a pose, shit has just gotten real moment.

All of this is an excuse for this:

Arch- no, let's just go with names in textboxes as this'll get confusing eventually, Robin. Robin stares at Merlin. And then he deliberately looks away, towards where hell's unfurling hurricane is. It's over there. A distance away. That right there is where the super golem robot thing is powering up. And it's starting to unfurl, as the description suggests. Over there. Over yonder. Look at that shit getting real over there. Hell's hurricane is cheerfully unfurling over there, yes sir. They're going to fix this eventually and it'll probably be...retconned from existence or something...who knows their lives stopped making sense a real long time ago.

Look at that mess. And then he looks back at Merlin and yes, he might be judging the mage ever so slightly.]

[Really? There's even a little bit of an exasperated hand gesture towards hell's unfurling hurricane. Because...okay, listen, breaking it down for a second. Unlike 99% of the other Servants, he grew up on stories of Camelot, among other things. Not just in Shakespeare's cultured 'we have options but let's talk about King Arthur, sure' sort of way. In the 'oh, this is a remote British hamlet and there's literally nothing else to do so let's bust out the folk stories' sort of way. He heard about Galahad finding the Grail no less than 15 times when he was 12.

So.

The "Really?" might just be one word, but there's an implied question.

And that implied question is, "Aren't you supposed to be some kind of superwizard who can pchoo over and singlehandedly stop that or something?" Or is one of the few shreds of childhood innocence and/or wonder he somehow managed to retain in his adult afterlife about to be brutally stomped into the ground. (Let's be real: it's probably going to be destroyed. Camelot falling wasn't a fluke, was it.)]

Sometimes he dreams of watching TV. He dreams of sitting with Sherlock in 221b and having a Bond marathon. He smiles at the memory of his flatmate pointing out every little plot hole or ridiculous stunt. Those dreams smell of Chinese takeaways and cups of tea. He remembers the smells but not the taste.

John wakes, looking up at the cracked ceiling of their latest make-shift free hotel. A heavy draft can be felt but at least they're dry.

He sits up and checks on his...well, his family, he supposes. As strange as it is. First, he looks to the baby sleeping in a box, tucked beneath all the blankets they could scavenge. What John wouldn't give to be so unaware of the situation as she is. Most of the time.

Then he looks over to Sherlock, who he let have the mattress, and who now looks. Well. Not quite as his dreams recall. John does remind him constantly that he was one of the lucky ones. Most who were hit with the first wave of radiation from the blast were vaporized. Sherlock...is different. He knows what the others who are affected similarly are called. Mutants. Not his Sherlock. He's still beautiful, he's just...a bit more interesting. Not that John has gained the courage to say as much.

The war, the bombing, it took everything. Their friends, their old enemies, their city. And when it all ended, a new struggle began, even worse. Surviving in hell. Two men and a baby.

"You awake?" he grunts, softly, not really wanting to wake him or Rosie. It's still early, but he knows they will need to make a move soon.

It isn't as if one could fault her for being unable to help those in need when she could barely help herself. If her brother had not been there to help, then she knows that her chances of recovery would have been impossible.

But due to the delay in that recovery, the worst had come and Noctis had disappeared. Or so the people told her. She has hopes that he would return one day, because he needed to. Noctis is the Chosen One and she had sworn to guide him the best that she could.

Yet she had yet to hear from him and the world was becoming even more of a grim place. Sighing to herself, Lunafreya found herself pacing in the carpark at Lestallum, feeling unsure of what she should do next. ]
