The AU!Pet Person Meme (Shipping & Smut)
| >> premise | |
| Hello, and welcome to The Care and Keeping of Your Pet! As you surely know, a pet is a big responsibility, and we're so glad you've decided to be a conscientious master. A safe pet is a happy pet, and this handbook is certain to keep your precious lifelong friend as content as can be. The history of the animal person is a long and difficult one, with their origins not being known even to this day. However, scientists believe that despite our common appearance - most animal people have humanoid forms except for the ears, tails, and sometimes teeth - we share no common ancestry, even if the ascent of this species corresponds with that of the homo sapiens. We gained dominance over each breed thousands of years ago, beginning with the dog type, who have long been considered "man's best friend." Most breeds these days are docile and perfect for owners of any speed. Of course, it is our duty as the superior species to take care of these animal creatures, and this is inherent in their genetic makeup. Everyone knows that an animal person, when matched with their correct human master, is loyal for life - a true "soulmate," if you will. Far be it for us to turn this away! Ever since the Great Domestication, these intelligent and loving animals have served us as friends, workmates, guardians, servants, and sexual companions and will for years to come. Despite recent hubbub from so-called "Pet People's Rights Activists," this way of life is wholesome and good. Scientific research shows that the natural desire of the pet person is to be owned and cared for by a human. So, it's your first pet. What do you need to know?
With that said, thank you and welcome to your first day as a pet's master! |
| >> how to play | |
| Needless to say, The Care and Keeping of Your Pet is a bit biased and full of propaganda, but it gives a good idea of the world your character is now AU's into. They are either a pet person or a human master, and what that means for them varies. So are they a devoted pet or a rebellious animal person looking to buck the system? A generous master or a cruel sexual sadist? Just a normal pet owner? Most likely they're something in between, but when you're raised in this world, it's difficult to see anything different on the horizon. Rules
|

As previously stated, pet people come in as many breeds as you can possibly think of. By far and away the most popular are the dog and cat types, but exotic birds and lizards have been gaining popularity among trendsetters from L.A. to Tokyo!

ghostperson. he doesn't have a lot of self confidence either. so maybe having a nice owner would help him out there. ]Kei Tsukishima - Haikyuu!! - ota
[For master, this probably wasn't his idea, and he's blaming his brother one way or another. He's sometimes aloof, often condescending, and a bit of a shittalker at times, although his cool head and intelligence can't be denied. Long time or observant pets might even note his softer (if awkward) moments, or lack of certainty in some areas.]
[For pet, congratulations. You've decided to go with the difficult decision of raising a crow as a pet! Highly intelligent, simultaneously bold but sensitive, they require constant attention, lots of space, and to be kept away from anything that's easy for them to destroy. Tsukki is no different, his shiny black wings giving him away and with some scaled and taloned feet. Take care; he won't forget if you don't treat him appropriately.]

i have no real preference about whether it's a smut thread or not; it can be up to you, or just if it seems like a good idea.

SURPRISE how could i not when she has a canon cat design
It's like owning a pet tornado rather than a cat.
And the yowling. Oh man, the yowling. If this cat wants attention, she gets attention. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.
After all, the alternative is no one getting any sleep. No one. Not even the princess herself.
It's questionable as to why Sonia keeps the cat around at this point... and today may be the day that tests it, since there's some absolutely horrible caterwauling coming from her own room.
And upon investigation, there's at least four ruined dresses - bits and pieces strewn about the floor, obviously cut up with scissors.
As for the perpetrator? She's stuck in the closet, wrapped up in one of Sonia's longer gowns as if she'd been trying it on... only to get that strangely long tail of hers tied up in the gown's ribbons.]

Ibuki?
[ Her eyes go from the torn fabric littering the floor, to the wailing and banging in the closet. Her suspicions are only confirmed as she peeks in the closet, seeing the cat all tangled up in her clothes. ]
No, Of course you didn't, Ibuki. [ She sounds sincere, but she doesn't believe that for a moment. ] Here, stop struggling, and let me help you out of that. You're not hurt, are you?
[ She comes into the closet with Ibuki, trying to figure out how to get the other out of this cloth trap. ]

As he was getting older though he was getting restless- but mostly kept on good behavior- it was better then eating outta a dumpster at least. And honestly he adored the human quite a bit. Enough so that he perked up from where he was dozing when his master came home]

So finding that night's dinner already eaten and a leg left out with the smell of fox everywhere? That just wasn't FAIR. HE didn't take what he wasn't supposed, why could this asshole get it? He had never met a fox face to face- they weren't a common pet and well, he had been taught that Strays were Dangerous and to avoid them. But he had smelled them in passing from time to time outside the yard.
After a moments thought he grabbed the leg, chewing on it and jumping out the window to find the thief before HE got blamed for it.
The main problem was the soft jingling of the bell on his collar- to keep him from killing so many small things and so he couldn't hide from the humans when he wanted to- it was kinda required for pets that were allowed even a slight bit of time outside.]

[Foxes are known by enthusiasts to be intelligent, independent, and curious pets...in the way that means they can be willful, selectively friendly, and destructive, even when properly cared for.
This one's exceptionally docile and social for the species - still intelligent enough to get into everything if left to his own devices, but eager enough to please to restrain himself a little. He was raised urban-wild by an ownerless mother and adopted after being orphaned. That first owner of his was a little bit shady, and must not have been committed to keeping a fox around forever. He's still convinced his owner intends to come back for him...
He can either be adopted from some kind of rescue/animal control situation, or just interacted with as a stray/taken in directly off the street.]

[Sometimes he wondered if it was worth learning how to do make up, like Yukari or Fuuka or Mitsuru-- it would be easier to hide this bruise on his cheek. He'd tried to check in on his old man, but... he'd forgotten this was the anniversary of his mom leaving the house.
Funny how his dad still remembered it, considering how many braincells he probably fried drinking all the time.
Usually, Junpei would go back and get a beef bowl to drown his sorrows in, but he really didn't want to show up at his usual joint with a marked up face. So some takoyaki would have to do. He sat down on the bench outside the stall, chewing the balls of dough and octopus thoughtfully.]

As a pet she'd be a bunny, and still slow to warm up. Not fond of pets or touching at first, but if they've been together a little while she'd relax. Despite that she's pretty touch-starved and once she got used to it she'd probably lowkey seek out the physical affection and w/e. Very chill, low maintenance, and quiet. Doesn't ask for much. Probably be a good therapy pet?
I'm cool with smut or just gen fluff stuff! A general kink list can be found here!))
remind me never to write an au with you again
A sub-adult (which is just a fancier way to say 'young') lion. It's one of those things that quite literally just come knocking on your door one day, that during conversations with others is chalked up to Fate and Destiny and all those ridiculous little ideas. He came to her in a strong leather collar: rich, deep mahogany and wide and with a quality that effortlessly complimented its simplicity. Attached to a brass D-ring was a chain- worn and sturdy and with links that must have been heavy but the Pet showed no outward sign of discomfort. Attached to the chain... well, holding it (very gingerly) was a young girl with very dark hair and very pale skin and clear eyes and when Yuri had (for better or for worse) opened her front door that day the girl had blushed horribly and quickly gotten out her plea.
See, her father was a breeder-- renowned worldwide, of the most reputable sort, with bloodlines running through his grand champions that were positively ancient, untainted, and which had and would continue to produce only the strongest, healthiest, most agile, and beautiful lions for work and service. This young one-- he would be a wonderful prospect for showing and breeding and protection and his pedigree was absolutely a marvel and she knew that it sounded scary to say she owned a lion but they really weren't so much work and all the people against owning exotic Pets simply hadn't ever shared a home with one and... she was getting off topic, wasn't she? That young one on the leash- they'd grown up together! She knew he looked like a grump but he really was tame, she insisted. And his pedigree was flawless-- in fact his own father had been loyal to the family for so long until an accident and-- did Yuri see those tears on the lion's right ear? The way the mane was silky instead of coarse and dark instead of light? If he had been born the standard golden color, this wouldn't be a problem at all but the boy was white. Not completely, but definitely more cream than anything else. See, while breeders who care only for money would jump at the prospect to sell such a rare color to wealthy patrons, the more serious breeders would know that the light color and heavy contrasting mane was a fault in the show ring. Stunning, yes, but there may or may not be underlying health problems to it-- there definitely was a very slight problem with light sensitivity. The lion's near-white eyes caused it. And anyway, to get to the point (the girl had taken a very deep breath and the lion's tail had whipped from one side to another in bored frustration), the girl said that lions were wonderful- and she loved this one, she really, really did and she saw him almost as a brother (how silly was that!)- and she won't lie, not if she's trying to be candid about everything-- as a cub, he'd harmed her, but he had outgrown that too-rambunctious, too-rebellious attitude. But her father hadn't quite forgiven that, though he saw merits in the young adult now. He had been patient to see if the lion would shape up to fit his breeding program but it didn't seem as if that would be the case-- and his temperament, he argued, would make him a poor candidate for actual protection work. If he'd bitten his master once he would again (but the girl insisted that wasn't true and she was actually kind of close to tears at this point).
So with no real use for the lion, and before he ran off and got lost and harmed or before he suffered from a lack of engagement and job to do in the kennel, her father had given her an opportunity to rehome the boy. Her family could pay to build the enclosure, or for boarding if he came to need more space. It wouldn't be a problem! She just wanted to see him in a careful, loving, attentive home but he was a little difficult to place. He wasn't a danger! He was just... well, he was strong. Physically, and strong-willed too, and her father always insisted the lions be kept in line with very heavy-handed, almost cruel methods but the girl didn't quite agree with that... this one would work better if wasn't punished, she said. Just showed what's right or wrong. He's intelligent, she said. He couldn't be treated like an unruly dog that had to be kicked.
And that's why Yuri had caught her attention. She was quiet, and very observant, right? And she had no other Pets?
And lions were just big cats, and this one wouldn't keep her up roaring all night, and he ate very little and wouldn't grow much larger.
So would she please consider keeping him? His name was Neji and she knew he looked cold but she could help him settle in? Yes, he had strong instincts but that wasn't a bad thing, was it? It was either rehome him or have him destroyed to spare him the humiliation of neglect.
Yuri would be safe with a lion.
Neji had watched the exchange with what was almost disinterest. His eyes were large and the skin around them tinted a deep brown to match his mane. He had a broad chest and strong neck and shoulders and his ears were small and wide and round and low set. Tip of his nose still held a cub's pinkish tint. The mane was choppy-- a lion's always was, moreso a sub-adult's-- but it was smooth, and long. He had large, heavy hands and claws were neatly sheathed. The tail wasn't overly-long. The collar was the only thing he wore and had ever worn, if small scars littered here and there over his body were any sign.
He hadn't shied away from bodily moving across the home Yuri had accepted him into just to show how easy it was for him to command her to move aside, the first couple of days. Now that weeks had gone by, he had settled down.
Mostly. It was summer's end. He was restless.] You're supposed to fix this. [The heat of the day, his discomfort, that elusive reason for why he's pacing.] Do something.

As an owner, her agreement to do so would probably be unwillingly. She would take in a rescue pet or help to protect a pet or let in a stray that seems insistent on following her around, but she wouldn't go to a breeder or a pound to pick on up herself. She'd be a stern owner initially, very much a fan of tough love, and it would take her a while to warm up affection-wise, but she'd be fiercely protective and would do all she could to make sure her pet was safe and cared-for.

Mm, smells all right. I think I can chance a little taste.
[It's not out of suspicion, exactly, that Lys takes these precautions. More like her faith in their new owners is currently suspended until further notice. This isn't the first time that they've been adopted, either of them, and Lys is too damaged to surrender her trust as readily as she once did. Owners could come and go, but Erza was one of the few constants she desperately needed, and badly enough that Lys thought little of risking herself to protect the red fox.]

As an owner, Lys would be happy to take care of any pet that seemed in need of it, from allowing strays into her home to adopting rescue animals, but is unlikely to go a pound (and a breeder even less so) in order to acquire a new companion. Those situations are possible, just unusual, and probably necessitating an attempt to "save" a pet from an even worse fate. She's flexible and patient, able to work with various personality types, and has the stubborn tendency to treat her pet as an equal rather than as....well, a pet.
