COMPROMISE OR DIE

CIRCLE is a 2015 film about 50 people waking up in a room with no memory of how they got there. Slowly they realize they have to choose who lives and who dies if anyone is to escape. Only one can walk away.

Fifty people is too many for a thread, so how about two?

SUDDENLY, you wake up in a strange dark room with another person. Maybe you know them; maybe they're a total stranger. There's no way to escape and only one way to survive. You find nothing of use, no doors and no windows, just a note etched into the wall: DECIDE WHO LIVES. IF NO DECISION CAN BE MADE, BOTH DIE. YOU HAVE ONE HOUR.

Ready, set, go.

Michael Ginsberg jolts awake, his entire body seizing with it. When his eyes open, he's staring at a foreign ceiling, directly at its one lonely, weak light. Everything else is a sea of darkness.

For a long moment he doesn't look away. His heart begins to speed up, he can hear it and feel it and it scares him as much as the darkness scares him, and this is strange and sudden, he can't tell if it's real—but if he just stares at the ceiling, at the light, he doesn't have to see anything else. He doesn't have to see all the things his dreams keep showing him.

Seconds drag on. His body is screaming at him to move: his back is sore and his nervous energy is building past the point where he can ignore it. It shoots down his arms and out his fingers; they twitch as it leaves him. Eventually he can't stop himself from lurching upward, sitting to standing in an instant as though he'd just realized he'd been lying on a bed of hot coals. Mind and skin buzzing, heartbeat in his ears, he whirls around, forcing himself to check the small room.

His quick scan turns up one major anomaly: another man, still passed out. Older than him, heavier than him, dressed in a suit that Michael couldn’t buy with a hundred paychecks. Carefully, like a wary cat, Michael leans closer.

She wakes up slow and confused on the hard black floor. It wouldn't be the first time, but... well, this is definitely a new way to get wasted. She checks herself-- yeah, she's still got her purse. There's her wallet. Okay, great.

Strangely, there's no hangover.

There's only one guy in the room, some sleeping schmuck in a suit. He looks kind of familiar... Christ, is it that guy from Asgard? Yeah, because it's the multiverse or whatever. Run with it. She just can't believe he ended up at the same party as her.

She walks over and toes him with her high heeled foot. "Hey, c'mon. Nice'n slow."

She wakes up next to a stranger, which isn't completely weird except they're both clothed and he's old. Not too old, though. She could do worse.

Christ, her back's killing her. It's because she woke up on the fucking floor, isn't it? Great. Today's looking great. She stands up slowly, and gives the other guy a nudge. "Wake up." She pushes him again.

Standing, she walks around the room. It's... strange. She can't find any doors. "Hey. Hey, you got the keys to this sex dungeon?"

[Waking up in a strange place with no memory of how he got there sounds like a bad bender with Bonegnawers.

Aaron sits up, looking around and before even focusing on the other person on the room he sees the message on the wall. He's not sure if the laughter he hears in his head is a mix of stress and whatever put him unconscious, Coyote finding this situation hi-fucking-larious, or just a voice in his head of his own creation. Either way, he's here in jeans, sneakers and a t-shirt that has seen better days.

Oh, and he isn't alone.]

"Wait, what? How?"

[ Darkness wasn't exactly unexpected, really. Nigredo has been in and out of consciousness since chaos and Caanan pulled him and his brother from the Conflict. the injuries had been fairly severe-- now? Considerably less so.

He remembers waking up to his brother's presence often. Late at night, lights low.

That isn't the case this time. No, he wakes up to a darkened room that certainly isn't a hospital and-- a girl?

Rubbing at his eyes just to make sure this isn't all a dream, Nigredo focuses more on Beth. In all his twelve years of life, he's met only two girls, and this one looks a little older than them, obviously, which is fairly confusing. He's not supposed to have unauthorized visitors...

Of course, it doesn't matter that he still has painkillers in his system-- it all catches up and he's scrambling over to her (more worried for her safety than his own), gently shaking her to see if she'd wake up, if she was hurt. ]

[ Sometimes, Daniel wonders if it's the medications that make waking dreams extremely vivid (c'mon, one of them is legit nicknamed "The Great Flattener", for god's sake) or if it was the fact that last he remembered, he'd been blown straight into the side of a car by the shock wave of a goddamned bomb going off a little too close to him. He was going to make a mental note to thank whomever reminded him to put on his body armor, because that could have been considerably nastier than a possible, mild concussion.

Either way? He's coming 'round a little slowly, disoriented, cut up and bruised. He had to have been out for a while, he found himself observing, and had the vague thought that he should probably be worried about that-- he'd tried to rub at his forehead, only to have a flash of pain flare up above his right eyebrow, his fingers coming away with flaking, dried blood. There's only one emphatic word for this. ]

Fuck.

[ Daniel hisses it through teeth clenched tight, feeling his whole body revolt against him as he sat up. Yeah, this was so not a time to be... kidnapped? Taken hostage? The hell was with the dark room? For that matter, what the hell was with this other guy in there with him?

Well, double fuck. ]

Not my lucky day...
