[ It's the dead of winter, and there's little better time for a lunar eclipse, so far as Hannibal is concerned. He's always enjoyed the cold, the sort of biting, brisk temperature that made your skin buzz with the sensation like it was now. After all, to truly enjoy any astronomical event, you had to venture away from the cities. The light polluted things, and it was only in quite deep darkness that the beauty of the heavens could be best seen.

And of course, he's dragging Will along with him for the evening. It's one of the few cases where Hannibal is quite willing to head out into nature and enjoy it like Will does. He has no real taste for the sorts of outdoorsman activities that Will enjoys, but he can make an exception for this. They're somewhere they probably shouldn't be, but it's hardly trespassing if you're so deep in the countryside that it would be a surprise to encounter someone at all, much less at this late (or early, depending on your point of view) hour. Hannibal has already scoped out a place to view the eclipse, and he has a thermos each for a hot drink and for soup, since he's always prepared. Even if Will doesn't partake in either, then it'll just be for him. He leads the way through the snow without so much as a flashlight to guide them. The full moon and the stars are bright enough for now, and it was better to have your eyes adjust to the natural light.

It's not a long walk, and though it could be in silence save for the crunch of their boots in the snow, Hannibal could never let it be simply that. Why would it ever be that. look it's hard to not be sarcastic in this meta ]

It is nearly always taken as a symbol, or perhaps a forewarning of events to come.

[Clear skies reminded Cassian of nights without terror, without fear. They seemed so long ago, if only because they are from so long ago. A different time, a different life altogether.

He counted stars and made funny shapes and whimsical stories about the stars above him.

Now he could only see them as points to lead him from one place to another. No star map he could learn fast enough, so Cassian made them up in an instant. A bright diamond on the head of a snake, a curling smoke tendril from an eye.

He stared silently skywards, finding shapes to take them to their next point.]

Your watch is in two hours. You should sleep.

[ it's past both of their bedtimes, and ignis will probably be out of the tent to remind them of that fact at any moment. but... you can't really see stars like this through all the bright city lights of insomnia, and that means that you can't see meteor showers, either. even for noctis, something like this seems worth staying up a little longer for.

besides, he's comfortable where he is, sprawled out on his back with the smooth stone of the haven underneath him, his head pillowed on one of gladio's thighs. the rest of the world around them is still and sleeping; there's only the occasional whisper of wind rustling through the grass, the soft crackle and snap of the campfire at their backs, or the low rumble of one of the sleeping catoblepas in the lake nearby. ... it's nice.

it's one of the rare moments where it's almost easy to forget about the war all around them. ]

[ Until recently, Jyn rarely looked at the stars. They shone too brightly, illuminating memories long since discarded with the name Jyn Erso. But what was once a debilitating hunger associated with things past, is now a much healthier ache.

Yavin 4 hosts breathtaking views. Sweeping jungles. Ancient temples. Sparkling skies. With a meteor shower streaking above, most of the off duty force (as much as any rebel is off-duty, that is) has moved to higher ground.

However, when Jyn wanders out of the base, she finds Chirrut at ground level. Absentmindedly, she twists her necklace. ]
