The Exalted Plains were a very sad place. Lost life lay languishing between every hill, forgotten, forsaken. Broken homes, broken bodies. Occasionally, in the spaces between conversations of their group, the cacophony of pained souls became so loud to Cole, they were nearly overwhelming. He didn't like war. What did so many people have to fight about?

Unless it was 'the Elder One'. He could understand lots of people fighting against that. Everyone should, but not everyone did.

He watches a group of Venatori, camped a fair distance from their own group. They didn't see him; they almost never did, but Cole keeps carefully to the shadows anyway. Once convinced that the Tevinter mages wouldn't be straying from their camp, he turns away towards the Inquisitor's camp.

"Overbearing, overwhelming, an ordeal. He deserves it, shouldn't have to earn it. Why be a magister when kings are so much more? Glory for a promise he thinks he can break later." Cole says by way of announcing his presence, as he returns to camp. He squats next to the fire, close enough that it's a wonder the heat isn't uncomfortable.

The Plains are loud with pain, lingering lamentations he can't help, but it's better at camp. The fire looks cheerful, and the banter of the Inquisitor's friends is nice, even if they fight sometimes. "They won't leave their camp tonight," he says sidelong to Danae. "Tomorrow we should kill them. They are going to hurt more people. We can't let them."

[A few nights out into the wild, a car breakdown at the most fortunate time, and Crown City sieged upon by the empire, Prompto has the nerve to sit around the campfire and complain about how it rained earlier that day, and how his hair was all off kilter from it's usual finely styled countenance. Of course, it's to break a long silence sitting with Noctis after Ignis and Gladiolus have retired (what old men they could be, sleeping at like, what? 1am?), but the prince has been staring into the fire for what seems like an eternity.

When the complaints about the weather go unanswered, Prompto idly fingers through some pictures that he took throughout the day. He's not the best freelancer out there, but he wants to chronicle every step of the adventure along the way. There was something innately beautiful about capturing the landscape, and absolutely thrilling when he could get his best friends in the picture along with it. Sitting up from his chair, he leans over to show Noctis a picture of him mid-warp, smiling fondly at how well the lens could capture the bright blue luminescence of it happening.

Trying to get Noctis' attention, he saddles up next to him on the chair (he's not sleeping, right? That would make... all too much sense as to why he was being quiet, and Prompto isn't exactly the brightest star in all of Lucis). He bumps his shoulder up against his friend, and relates back to him an old greeting that he'd formulated from their school days, probably one of the worst puns in the world, but Prompto loved it too much to quit it- especially when the other was brooding.]

Noct, noct.

[He holds the camera out to show him, proud of his handiwork. For what it was worth, Gladio was amazing at survival skills and fighting and being that big brother to everyone in the world, and Ignis was near perfect at pretty much... everything he did. Prompto only had this. And a keen sense of humor, of course. The best sense of humor. Who else would be making knock knock jokes to such a calm and collected prince in the middle of the sticks?]
