That is the last thing that Martin Jackson thinks likely to happen as he starts his night shift as a nurse. Nor as he finishes his early evening rounds and settles. It is a rather quiet night, really, so he is almost glad when the door opens and somebody walks in.

They're still young. Gods, but they're still young and so old all at once and to be frank, it still doesn't mesh well in Eric's head. A handful of years out of school together (barely out of university, even) and they're confirmed, listed, called upon. The Circle relies upon them to solve problems and they do. There's little they can't do together and it shows; they're often touted as a strict duo and—while Alejandro can handle himself with an even keel most times, Eric needs the other man's grounding presence. Sometimes people call his skills into question over it, but the reality is that not many people have to deal with their past selves vying for precedence in their mind while keeping a focus on the tasks at hand as well.

Alejandro understands.

Going on a mission without him when he's already feeling off-kilter is a mistake. So is letting a rookie pair up with him. So is letting himself get distracted by his own soul. So are a million other things that all go wrong slowly like a toppling line of dominoes. Eric can see the end of them.

The Rookie—Auger—has some interesting powers. They're handy for the job, get them in where they need to go, and he's pretty sturdy as well. Not as sturdy as Eric of course, but almost no one is. It actually goes well at first until they're deep into it, fighting their way through automatons and there are too many to fight, suddenly. "Hold," he says, ready to push forward himself. He is blessed with his strengths and it's his place to take a beating because he can—

Auger rushes forward into the fray anyway, ignoring his orders, disobeying him, and is overwhelmed almost immediately. There are so many. Eric lurches forward with a roar of fury, clearing a swath with a swing of his weapon. He's pushing forward, clearing the way, working his way toward his partner.

"Achilles!" The cry stills him, stops his breath, and he's not here suddenly because he's there staring at his own helmet in his hands because Patroclus is dead, disobeying his orders and gone, leaving him—he chokes on a hysterical laugh before he can stop it, mind racing as he moves. It's too much. This isn't the war that killed him. This isn't Patroclus.

This isn't Patroclus because Patroclus is still out of his reach.

It doesn't last much longer after that. By the time they're extracted the creations are all dead and Auger is wounded severely from his own stupidity but he'll be all right eventually. The Circle will see to that. Eric relents to being dragged back partially because his things are there and partially because he's too deep into himself to escape just yet. Things are still new for everyone; they still have locker rooms, gods' sake. This is where he loops from empty sorrow back to the anger of battle, storming through the room that cleared out so soon as he'd appeared. After too much pacing he stills in front of a bank of lockers, leaning on them with his head tipped down. When his fist hits metal he still has his weighted gloves on: it dents the door. Again and again.

A part of his mind dimly notes that they've probably called on Alejandro already to deal with his tantrum but he's not focused on that at present.

1. Yuri's a young librarian, mostly still learning the ropes from the older workers but has a real passion for the job. He can be shy with new people, but when a subject is brought up he's interested in his eyes light up and you can't stop him talking.

2. LITTLE KID RP? Just. Meet on a playground. Play nicely or shove him in a mud puddle it's all good.

3. He's an anime otaku because hey play what you know. He makes his own doujin with friends staying up all night on Mountain Dew for a week straight and now has a table at a con and hopes to sell the book he's made.]

[ Rude. He's told Yuri time and again that a) the library was open to the public and b) didn't actually necessitate an interest in books. It isn't Victor's fault that god only put WiFi in certain establishments and that he's had enough of this town's café mainstays to seek cell data relief elsewhere.

It just so happens that the haven in question is often staffed by a man, almost a boy really, who by empirical standards is Adorable and works a schedule that suggests true love of his job. Which Victor can only approve of, given how much he hates his job and frequently scratches his pencils to the nib with the librarian angled just into his field of vision, turning out softer designs, curvier indoor balustrades that plunge into grand staircases.

Every forty five minutes or so he got up to approach the pencil sharpener near the librarian's desk, a reserved smile ready if he happens to be looking Victor's direction. Then he returns to his seat, watches the man stamp returns and rub ink onto his face, and sighs and idly sketches dream homes he and the librarian will live in on the French Riviera some day. Or possibly have lived in before, as Victor gets the strangest sense of déjà vu when he looks at the librsrian, underneath the pitter patter of puppy love. He indulges it; inspiration is so hard to come by.

The wind and snow blows him in late November, hands laden with two disposable coffee cups. he stops in the foyer to right his winter clothing and disarrayed hair, a winning smile flashed at wandering eyes (librarian, please look) before he strides toward the desk and places one in front of the librarian. ]

This one was left homeless on the bar. The barista was indifferent when I asked if I could take it - white chocolate mocha.

The goodbye to Frank was hard for Newt but he knew it would come around sooner or later, that this trip was for him to return home. Once he had turn his gaze away from watching his friend fly free, he saw a little smoke tendril float away and disappear, a tiny spark of hope lit in that moment. That maybe, just maybe Credence was still alive. While the MACUSA repaired Credence's destructive path, he had to say goodbye to another friend, Jacob, and that was just as hard. Knowing that the venom of Swooping Evil, only erased the bad memories and Jacob will soon remember all the good ones he made on this journey with him, Tina and Queenie. This is wasn't truly goodbye.

Newt told Tina that he needed some time to be alone for awhile, that he would meet up again with them afterwards. After all, he did lose two friends and someone he couldn't save all in one day and Queenie needed her more than he did right now. Waiting for them to apparate before he held his wand up to form an umbrella as he began to search for the wisp he had seen just moments ago. He searched down alleyways, train station stops, in front of buildings, everywhere he could possibly think of. He didn't have much time, it would be nightfall before long and trying to find smoke would be twice as difficult as it was now.

Pickett cooed at him from behind the lapel of his coat. "We'll find him, just... keep a look out." he said, turning his attention to the bowtruckle.
