Possible settings:

1. Crime Scene: Dead body? Burglary? Whatever the crime, it's been sectioned off for the officers to investigate this nefarious deed, and you're getting a good look at it.

2. Speakeasy: Prohibition's such a joke to society, and this is where the fashionable ones come to hang out and gossip. Perhaps a police officer or two will show up to investigate, but no one ever takes that seriously.

3. Docks at Night: The breeze caressing your face, the sound of the water, the boats passing by...maybe you were called here, or maybe you just like the peace it brings.

4. Alleyway: There's only one way in and out of this little corridor, and what happens in it is up to you and the other character. Just watch for the shadows, if you can see through the fog.

5. Detective's Office: Not too clean, not too messy. Just perfect for the person that's needed to get this mystery cleared up.

6. Rooftop: The wind dramatically blowing about, it's the perfect place to get that person to come and meet you so you can tell them what you want. Or if you're evil, why not kill them up here? It'll be hard to escape you.

7. Dressing Room: For some reason, you're backstage after a performance, and you've gotten into one of these. The mirrors, the costumes, the flowers from fans and the various personal affects...all are present and will be your silent witnesses to whatever occurs.

8. Hideout: You've gotten to the antagonist's spot of choice. Is this a glitzy nightclub with a private room, or is this an abandoned warehouse where they-or you-carry out their plot? The choice is yours.

9. Nightclub: Someone's showcasing their talent tonight, and you may or may not care about it. But it's classic, dimly lit, and it's easy to hide in here.

10. Free choice

Possible relationships:

1. Friends: Maybe you're an unstoppable team, or perhaps your relationship is getting strained. But whatever the situation, you know this person, and you'd be there for them.

2. Coworkers/teammates/classmates: You might not be friends, but you know this person well enough to remember their name. And right now you're being thrown together for a reason.

3. Lovers: This is the one you wanted to stay with for now. Married, dating, or maybe an affair, but you two care about each other enough.

4. Enemies: Utter hatred flows through your veins when you hear this person's name. This is the one you want to take down, and you just might stop at nothing to achieve your goal.

5. Family: Perhaps it's a sibling you're meeting. Or your parent, or some form of relative. Remember that phrase "blood is thicker than water"? It just might apply here.

6. Mysterious Stranger: Someone's been eyeing you from across the room, or you've been eyeing them. Will you two speak, or shall they float out of your life? Do they hold information you seek, or do they want something from you?

7.  Femme Fatale: You are or have encountered a mysterious and seductive woman, whose charms ensnare her lovers in bonds of irresistible desire, often leading them into compromising, dangerous, and deadly situations. Watch out, you might just get yourself into a real mess of trouble, hot stuff.

Option 2: Speakeasy

[Despite the patrons' attempts at stealth, it was obvious where the speakeasy's latest opening was. Especially if one knew what the boss liked. Which was how Irene came to be knocking on the unlabeled door, tapping her foot in obvious irritation, as she exchanged passwords with the thug standing guard.

She breezes by him with the scent of cigarettes and perfume in her wake, and a deep, satisfied smile spreads over her face as she takes in the illicit bar.

Oh yes, misbehavior was going to be fun tonight.]

Option 7: Dressing Room

[The smell of lilies and roses is cloying in the hot, claustrophobic room, but Irene seems to revel in its closeness, in the press of silk and sequin and paste jewelry. It's a far more intimate setting than the stage beyond, with its gaslights and the scent of sweat and paint.

She does not linger at the mirror, shedding the costume she wore without needing the mirror's help in finding the hidden buttons, and scrutinizes the piles of gifts from well-wishers and fans piled on the table.

The paltry bouquet of daisies gets tossed into the trash immediately, while the velvet covered box catches her attention.]

[An actress. That's new. A big name on the stage, and, as far as he's been told and been able to determine himself, a magnet for trouble. A bit more trouble than some would like, apparently, or Malcolm wouldn't find himself ushered backstage and to the door of a dressing room. Part of him (albeit the more paranoid part) wonders if this woman isn't something more than a mere actress to garner the dangerous kind of attention she's getting. It's no mere jealous lover or deranged fan, that much is certain.

Instead of letting one of the stagehands make any careful, proper introductions, he gives a rap on the door--] Miss Adler? [--and prompty lets himself in, to the squeaky protest of said stagehand.

Poor manners all around, he knows all too well, but he's got a job to do, and her safety could always be on the line. If he has to make a few social and stage faux pas to make sure she's not harmed, then he'll sleep well at night.

He shuts the door quickly behind him and casts his gaze about, a cursory inspection, before stiffening his stance and nodding at her.]

Ma'am. I apologize for my entrance, but your employer has hired me to be your personal bodyguard for the time being. I assume he doesn't want to have to hire a new lead actress anytime soon. [He reaches into his jacket to produce a few documents that confirms the story.] All on the up and up, if you're concerned I'm here for something different.

Option 4: A fifteen-year-old boy with ripped and bloody clothes in an alleyway two blocks from last night's grisly animal attack. Nothing suspicious about that, is there?

[The gun-for-hire type, Claude was a guy who was (at this point) used to getting himself in trouble. Mostly with the Mafia. And it was no secret, if you remembered his face from the papers, that he was the guy who had gotten shot and left for dead by his girlfriend in a bank robbery attempt.

This time it was the mafia again. The leather-jacketed rockabilly reject ducked into the nearest place he could find. A nightclub. That worked. They were usually dark. Loud, too.

He shoved his hands in his pockets and made his way down the rows of tables. Then he heard the doors burst open and familiar voices. He went for the nearest booth, accidentally knocking over whoever-it-was-there's drink in the process. Smooth job, Claude Speed. He gritted his teeth and slipped off his leather jacket, tossing it down under the table. A t-shirt wasn't going to blend in much better in this place, but...]

No signature, no tell-tale signs of sender. It had been slipped under the door of Stiles's apartment while he was showering, and by the time he had read it and looked into the darkened hallway of his building, the sender was long gone.

Most people would ignore a note like this. It just scented of a bad idea, of an ill end.

Most people would rightfully realize that it was probably a trap, and stay away.

Not Stiles though.

No, never Stiles.

Which is why he found himself standing on the middle of the roof of the building, at 9:58. He's been here for fifteen minutes; being on time would be late, in his eyes, in this situation. The extra time has provided him time to determine if there is an escape route, if things go bad.

There isn't.

Unless he's suddenly learned to fly--a 10 story fall isn't going to work.

Shoving his hands in the pockets of his red trench coat, he chews on his lip (a nervous habit he's never been able to break himself of), waiting.

Any minute, the note's sender is going to show up.

Her eyes are sharp as she waits, and it takes very little for her to notice the man who is wandering the area, a man who doesn't quite fit into the quiet, almost sinister pulse of life that drives the dock's pulse.]
